Coin Launcher
The Coin Launcher is a trophy-snagging minigame in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is essentially a replacement for the Lottery feature of Super Smash Bros. Melee.
The Coin Launcher, as the name implies, is a machine that uses coins as projectiles. Using the launcher, coins are shot at trophies to obtain them. The shooting button can be held down, and when released the coin will be launched much faster than usual. There are also various types of enemies that can be shot; shooting an entire group earns stickers and bonuses. One bonus is a slight increase in spawn rate of rarer trophies. Another bonus is a certain amount of extra coins, that can range from 10 to 50. As the player destroys enemies, part of the green gauge below the player's coin supply fills up. When the gauge completely fills up, three trophies appear (although this does not always happen), and coins can be shot out at a significantly faster rate. Once a certain time has passed, the gauge empties. There are also periodic missiles that will deduct coins if they hit the lower section of the Coin Launcher, or give "bonus points" when destroyed. The missiles may also reduce the charge in the green gauge.
The trophy distribution is set up so that uncollected trophies will appear more often as groups of enemies are destroyed. [1]
The counters for trophies and stickers do not display numbers over 99, but it is possible to earn more than 99 trophies or stickers at one time.
Rotating the C-Stick on the GameCube Controller or the right stick on the Classic Controller will move the camera, much like on the main menu.
Enemies
There are five types of enemies that may appear (note that the naming is unofficial.)
- Platters are rotating triangle-shaped enemies that move in wave-like patterns, typically appearing in groups of six.
- Pills are oval-shaped enemies that also travel in wave-like patterns in groups of six. Sometimes they travel side-by-side.
- Pointers are triangle-shaped enemies that appear in groups of five. They either move from one side of the board to the other in an arrowhead formation, or they move in an arch-like shape from the back.
- Pirouettes are small spheres with a "wing" sticking out of each side. They only appear in groups of three, rolling in from the back of the board and then rolling back out.
- Plunks are black spheres with a purple interior. They slowly inch across the board and cannot be destroyed, simply blocking any coins that hit them. They appear in groups of three, but usually only one is on the board at once.
Pits may also appear at intervals, usually in conjunction with Plunks. Coins will be wasted if they fall into a pit, but they may travel overtop if moving fast enough.
