The R button refers to the large, grey button on the top right corner of the GameCube, Classic, and Nintendo 64 controllers. Its purpose in SSB is to grab opponents. It is used in SSBM for defense techniques, such as shielding, rolling, and sidestep dodging. Its purpose in SSBB is the same as in SSBM.
