you

I would like for you to resolve SmashWiki:Requests for adminship/PenguinofDeath (once it gets to be around that time) because I cba to deal with any accusations of bias etc. Shadowcrest 20:27, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Bump. (Alternately, you can just drop me an email/tell me on IRC and I can resolve for you, if wikia is down or something.) Shadowcrest 21:40, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I need to talk to you

If you could be on irc sometime today, it would be much appreciated. I'm almost always around, so it doesn't matter when. Thanks, PenguinofDeath 13:30, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

I still need to talk to you. It's not exactly urgent, but it is important. PenguinofDeath 17:54, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
It's that time again. Could you get on IRC one night this week? Preferably before 1am UTC, and not tomorrow or saturday cos I'm not going to be around then. PenguinofDeath 19:45, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

question

how do you link to SmashWiki pages from non smash wiki, wikis? Oni Dark Link 17:09, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Just do the link as you would normally (page name) but put "w:c:super-smash-bros:" before the name of the page you want to link to. If, for example, I wanted to link to my user page from another wiki, I would use w:c:super-smash-bros:User:PenguinofDeath. As with all links of that type, using something like this would make the link appear as this. Hope that helped. PenguinofDeath 17:54, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Ah, you have to use dashes. Thanks, I was trying many different versions of it and would never have thought to use them. Oni Dark Link 20:27, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

hang onnnnn

It says on your page that you have mastered wavedashing, teching and other high level techniques. Teching is not a high level technique in my opinion. It may be hard for many people, but if you have quick reflexes it is fairly simple. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Hobster (talkcontribs) 17:58, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

you delete my page?!?

You deleted my page, saying a lot of people use it, its called b throw>dair. Well I was the 1st to discover it, and I named it Hobbing. I used it on Wi-fi in Brawl, and people copied me. Thats why it shold be named after me. Wobbling was names after wobbles the phoenix, but people still use that, but they call it wobbling. I discover a technique, i expect it to be named after me. Otherwise you could give wobbling a technical name, saying there's no proof that he found it, just that he was the 1st to use it in tournaments. The Hobster (talk) 17:10, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

You have it wrong. Wobbling is called that because Wobbles was the guy who popularized it. If you want your "Hobbing" to be considered a notable technique, you'll have to use it to great effect in multiple significant tournaments. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 18:01, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
I am pretty sure a follow-up does not qualify as a technique. Y462 (TCE ) 20:02, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, i suppose so, but in that case, how do I get into the tournaments, because I don't think I ever live near them. The UK has no tournaments that I hear of, and I live in an area where there's only about 5 people to play against, so thats very limited training even if i was able to access themThe Hobster (talk) 20:42, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Trust me on this, people were not copying you specifically on wi-fi. As for tourneys, check out AiB. They might have some listings for the UK or at least some online tourneys. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 22:30, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
All the UK listings are in London, and not a single one online. I don't live near London, is there any other sites with tournaments on?The Hobster (talk) 08:14, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

why

Clarinet Hawk, why did you delete my recently created article, "brawling top 10?-Blablob (talk) 23:18, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

It appears that you don't yet have a good grasp of what a wiki is about. A wiki is not a forum (that is, a place where people talk about whatever). A wiki is a collection of objective information. Perhaps you should take a step back for a bit and improve existing articles, as well as observing the edits that other users make. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 00:00, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
I am not actually sure what your article was about, Blablob. What you can do is create a blog or user sub-page for it. Y462 (TCE ) 00:03, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Rollback Rights

Hello, I was just wondering whether I could have rollback rights. I feel that could come in handy. I have been reverting vandalism using the undo link like mad since I joined and a lot of my edits are reverting vandalism. I have had admin and crat powers on other wikis so know how to use them. I just can't preview pages without a 75% chance of my internet browser crashing and rollback skips out that section. Thank you, ☆The Solar Dragon (talk)☆ 07:34, October 11, 2009 (UTC)

Just one Question

How did you get that section to the right of your page with the information of Brawl and you name and Birth and stuff, or is that only for admins? Kirby0h0 (talk) 04:50, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

Special:ProtectSite

Hi Clarinet Hawk, as you may have noticed through the recent changes, there was a bit of vandalism today. We've turned on Special:ProtectSite here, and it is currently in use (for just a few more minutes). If excessive vandalism occurs again, you yourselves can use it, but only in extreme circumstances. It is not a toy and should never be used for long periods of time or for small problems. Cheers, and if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Joey (talk) 03:47, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

re: last night

A couple questions.

 1. Why was protectsite necessary, exactly? As far as I can tell, the only pages that warranted protection were SBR and possibly MK (SSBB)- I don't get how the rest of the vandalism couldn't have been covered with blocks. (This isn't criticism of you CH, I'm merely trying to figure out the original reason.)
 2. Why were those IPs (as in the only 2 that were actually blocked) blocked for 6 months?
 3. Directed specifically at you, why does one isolated incident warrant year-long protection?

Thanks. Shadowcrest 14:51, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

 1. I did not do the protect site. I most likely would not have done it had it been my call in that case, but I do see the motives of the person who did it.
 2. That kind of vandalism is something that I haven't seen in a while, but which used to be common enough that I wanted to set a precedent against it happening again. I checked that nothing else had been done with the IPs to make sure that they were not public computers that had been used by good contributors. In my mind, there was virtually no reason to believe that anything good was coming from those IPs and every reason to assume that they would do this again.
 3. It was not one isolated incident. That page has been a target of vandalism since the day I set foot on this wiki. We tried unprotecting it, and we saw what happened. Anyone who has information that is actually valuable to that page should make an account (and probably already has one). Again, the risks of allowing IPs to edit that page greatly outweigh the potential small benefits.
Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:17, February 20, 2010 (UTC)
The protectsite was necessary. Many pages were being vandalized, and for an hour or so only BNK and I were there to battle the vandalism, and neither of us have any power. As far as I know, that was a coordinated attack launched by a group of people trying to destroy this site (maybe I'm exaggerating). I don't think they will try that again as it probably required a lot of preparation. 98.117.158.220 21:01, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it probably required about two minutes of preparation. If you know how to use proxies, and feel like vandalizing a wiki, the rest writes itself. And they weren't "trying to destroy this site". Well, if they were, they failed miserably. It wouldn't be too difficult for them to do it again, but, on the other hand, they've most likely got better things to do... PenguinofDeath 21:57, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
These were most likely users from the Encyclopedia Dramatica. After carefully reading the rant article entitled "tourneyfag" and its talk page, I noticed that the way these vandals used their insults is very similar to the regular text on the articles. They might also be members blocked from the SWF. BNK 23:23, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

OK.

I choose option number one: unblock my [BNK] account. :D 67.10.177.73 02:57, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

And you thought it was that easy? No, you need to convince me why I should pick that option. You could have started by following the User Talk page Guidelines, but I'll let that one slide. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 03:13, February 22, 2010 (UTC)
Well, he did help me fight off those vandals, for starters. 98.117.158.220 03:21, February 22, 2010 (UTC)
OK:
 1. You might have heard this before, but I've changed. A lot. Not just here, but at other Wikia sites as well. I've demonstrated behavior that you would consider the complete opposite to how I acted in 2008.
 2. I've left a mark here. I've created articles, uploaded images, and improved existing articles more than some users who have been here for three years. My contributions to this place are what link me to it, along with my history with some of its users.
 3. This may not be much, but I have a full understanding of SmashWiki's policies. Before, I only comprehended the titles.
I've ended my conflict with all of the administrators here as well. Also, there are my recent contributions that show my improvement in behavior, activity at other wikia sites that shows how I can still benefit even the least active communities, and overall edits...
Ah! One more thing: 1 (that's a laugh with you, not at you). 67.10.177.73 03:31, February 22, 2010 (UTC)
OK, I appreciate the humor and honesty. I haven't decided yet, but trust that you'll be the first to know. You're IP is still unblocked, but I would request that you put "BNK" in the edit summary of every edit that you make for the time being so we know it's you. I will say that this has a good chance of working it's way into SmashWiki the Movie part 5. Wait, did I say 5? But wasn't the last one part 4? you ask. Why yes, so what does that mean we're doing right now.  ;-) Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 05:12, February 22, 2010 (UTC)
Alright, thank you. And it has been a while; hopefully this one features some animushun. 67.10.177.73 13:17, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, an idea for the smash 64 portion

Is it possible to add a matchup index for each character for smash 64 similar to the brawl matchups. All of the matchups were posted in the official matchup chart (as >, >>, <, and << instead of the numbers. (The >> for example refers to hard countering or better than a 60 40 matchup. Or should I just post it like this:

For example: Captain Falcon Matchups Kirby: Kirby >> Falcon Samus: Falcon >> Samus

etc. Or some other format?--KoRoBeNiKi (talk) 22:53, February 24, 2010 (UTC)

I can't say that I know the 64 metagame well enough to know how exactly the match-ups are discussed, but if there's any way to do it similar to how it's done for the Brawl characters, then I would say go for it. You know the scene better than I do in this case. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 06:16, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

I know what the matchups are from a thread, you know anyone who could design something similar to the brawl matchup posts? --KoRoBeNiKi (talk) 21:36, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

Talk with Toomai, he did the Brawl ones. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:06, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

The urge to troll you for those posts has rendered me practically fetal, but yet I resist. You should be grateful. Truth, BNK was banned because his behavior has been outrageously bad in the past. Since then, BNK has both behaved well, and contributed a lot. We gave him his final chance, and he is taking it seriously, and he deserves some commendation for that, although with reservation, because there are still scars from the shitstorms he's caused. Which segways nicely into my next point, which is that hell is not a bad word. Words are collections of sounds which have particular associations. We've had this debate many many times here on Samshwikiz and the result is always the understanding that words represent ideas, and censoring words doesn't censor ideas, it just censors words. If I decided that 'trune' actually meant 'bitch-ass motherfucker' it wouldn't be offensive to people, yet the sentiment which seems to offend people behind other 'profane' words remains. We generally refrain from excessive profanity here on Samshwikiz but there are moments where it is exceedingly appropriate. I'm sorry it offends you, but not being offended by stuff that doesn't hurt anyone is a life lesson, and in that respect, Samshwikiz might actually make a difference in your life. Semicolon (talk) 04:58, March 9, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I was just saying that some do, I don't really have a problem with the word. And no-wonder BNK is on the 'featured users' list. And why can't people delete their own comments what if they don't like the comment they put up? Or should I look at the guidelines for the site to know the answer to that? Smash Wikia is one of my favorite wikias, but I'm not saying that it's the best, other's are also great:Kirby wiki, earthbound wikia and a few other's. What's a bureaucrat? --Megatron1 (talk) 03:42, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

Megatron1: Bureaucrats can change user rights (Rollback, Administrator and Bureaucrat are user rights). Faulty comment on my talk page

I wasn't trying to stir up any trouble, nor troll. I was just speaking my mind, which happened to be against this site's faulty Ganondorf article. I feel that tournament success is unnecessary in deciding a character's abilities, and that it should instead be decided on how well someone can use different characters. I'm sorry for vandalizing your site by saying that practice overruns widespread preference, but can you argue and say that the statement is not true? And besides, how could I contribute to this site? It seems to have virtually all in-game data and more somewhere, and from personal experience, I heavily doubt my posts will receive a warm welcome. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SSBC (talkcontribs) 22:19, March 16 2010 (UTC)

 1. The Ganondorf article is not "faulty". It simply tells it how it is - that Ganondorf is not very useful under tournament rules and in the metagames of the most skilled players.
 2. You were not vandalising by saying that "practice overruns widespread preference", since such is inherently true. But again, in the context of competitive play and the tier list, practice is irrelevant - it is assumed that all players are at the highest level.
 3. There is always more to contribute, even if it's not major - such as spelling fixes, grammar improvements, and the like.
 4. On talk pages, always put ~~~~ after your posts. This signs them for you.
Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 00:31, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

Ah, I see. Next time, I'll make sure to base my opinion on characters from popularity rather than core taste. And simply correcting a grammatical error wouldn't seem to pay some sort of debt I have to this site. I'm sure you want something that goes a longer way out of me. And if I'm not mistaken, I believe you said you won't accept my signature. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SSBC (talkcontribs) 19:12, Marth 17, 2010 (UTC)

 1. You seem to be forgetting something about wikis - articles are to be objective and opinion-free. I agree with you that tier lists are lame and cause newbies to act like MK is teh bezt evar, and that tournaments aren't how the game was designed. But I also do not ignore the facts that some characters do better than others under tournament rules, and as a game designer myself, I know it's essentially impossible to balance everything for every situation - including the ones you can't plan for.
 2. You can be a perfectly good contributor by doing minor edits; as long as they improve the wiki nobody really cares how significant they are.
 3. If your sig isn't allowed, that's no excuse for not fixing it and using it. We've told you how to fake different sigs on different wikis - put as your sig in Preferences, then making that page to the sig rules on each individual wiki. For example, my sig is , so no matter what Wikia wiki I go to, I can change my sig for each one individually by editing that page.

I believe the page was deleted because it was so badly written that the deletor couldn't make heads or tails of whether you were notable enough. You're free to put (almost) whatever you want on your user page, but to have a smasher page, you have to fit to notability criteria - and without spell/grammar-checking, it certainly looks like an amateur. If there's anything wrong you witness on this site, I could always make it better. Tell me, though. SSBC (talk) 00:21, March 31, 2010 (UTC)

C-Hawk I think it's okay with you if I take this one. I'll make it quick SSBC. It's pretty much everything you could do better. You could actually contribute information to the site. You could graciously follow the rules instead of mouth off. You could be open to different points of view. Those are the big 3 I see for you right now. Let's be honest. You didn't start out too hot, and you didn't do yourself any favors since your first ban. You're tight rope walking as it is, so basically doing anything better than you were before is a start. This might sound outrageous, but believe me, we have been very very patient, lenient, and even generous with you up to this point. Semicolon (talk) 01:12, March 31, 2010 (UTC)

If you main Ganon... why not contribute to his atribute section? Without breaching NPOV policies, of course. I don't want to start another argument, just a suggestion. 98.111.95.78 01:15, March 31, 2010 (UTC)

Since I don't climb deep into the depths of the game, I couldn't exactly do much to improve the section. Also, I'd be generally writing a criticism report on my favorite character in Brawl. However, I could try. SSBC (talk) 01:55, March 31, 2010 (UTC)

You wouldn't be writing a criticism report. If you think there's good thing's to wright about him, Be bold!. Perhaps, and I been perhaps it will affect SWR's opinion of him, if it's written well. 98.111.95.78 02:17, March 31, 2010 (UTC)

There's somebody who plans on banning me if I make any mistakes in an edit, so that's just great. Also, the fact remains that I don't know professional statistics, meaning I won't be able to write (this attack has x hitboxes) or (the out of shield game is x). SSBC (talk) 10:23, March 31, 2010 (UTC)

So, Clarinet, would it be alright to write about Ganondorf but include no spicy observations such as hitboxes, % dealt, etc.? SSBC (talk) 19:36, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

note

Someone vandalized the page Pikachu and I want to know why.

What did you do?

Why did you do that to the Pikachu page? How could an administrator be so jerkish? I thought admins were the kind of people that were nice and respectful and were the kind we looked up to... But now you must do This? Seriously, why would you replace an ENTIRE ARTICLE with just a sheep image? Seriously, Clarinet, you need to tone down this behavior. Usually, I wouldn't allow myself to "Backseat mod", but now I think it's acceptable, considering what you did, and how you handled your responsibility as an admin. Good day, sir! >:( ParaGoomba348 03:49, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

APRIL FOOLS

STOP

listen up! stop changing my talk page! every time you do it, i have to start ALL over! lucly, i have it pasted somewhere, so stop editting it, cuz im just gonna change it back! Zelda101 03:41, April 7, 2010 (UTC)zelda101Zelda101 03:41, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

No you're not. That is not what talk pages are for. This is not your little corner of the internet that you can post whatever you want on. User talk pages have very specific uses as outlined in the User Talk Page Guidelines. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 03:43, April 7, 2010 (UTC)
i'll let you know something, i wrote "who do YOU think will be in the next game?" so that people can talk on who will be in the next game. alright, now stop being a d-ck

Read the damn guidelines then try posting again. And don't call me a dick, I would be well within policy to block you right now. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 03:51, April 7, 2010 (UTC)
This kid is acting very similar to some other users. I wonder... 98.111.95.78 03:59, April 7, 2010 (UTC)
well im new to the site and nothing in the SW:UTPG said nothing about "its wrong to give you opinion". cant you see its my opinion? im letting people post what characters they would like to see in SSb4 , WHICH THEY ARE UNABLE TO DO THANKS TO YOU! you see im pissed off right now. so common dude. im actually not to sure if im using my talk page right or wrong however.
Are you serious? No, really: are you actually serious? I will quote the guidelines: "Beyond conversations about edits to the wiki, minor outside conversations are perfectly acceptable. However, do not extend these into being chat rooms, message boards, and/or e-mail accounts."' Please, if this isn't clear, let me know, but I don't see how it isn't. Learn to post properly or leave. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 04:32, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

im tired of you. you dont need to burst into a debate of mine nad just yell "THE DEBATE R USELESS". are you just saying that cuz its my debate? and "refusal to learn"? dude... are you that one sided? -_- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zelda101 (talkcontribs) {}

Um, what the hell are you talking about? I didn't "burst into a deabte" of yours, I tried to tell you that the talk page wasn't the right place and you weren't using it correctly. I then linked you to the user talk page guidelines, which can't be any clearer on the subject. I would know, I wrote them. Basically, there is a correct way to use the user talk pages which is for what we are doing now and an incorrect way which is what you keep reverting your page to. I'm going to spell this out very plainly to you: User Talk pages are for discussing said user's edit to the wiki. Forums are for discussing which characters should be in SSB4, and had you actually looked you would have realized that there is already a forum for that. So basically, you've managed to make a duplicate forum in the wrong place (something that is not appriciated on any gaming website) and then continually remade/reverted said forum and flamed that admin that told you to stop. You're going for an inside the park home-run as it comes to bad posting. Here's my advice, stop at third and I don't permaban you. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 02:36, April 12, 2010 (UTC)
Actually it's his job. That's what he does here. That's what Wikia wants him to do. You're doing things wrong, and your attitude is bad. Please, be more respectful, consider carefully what you are going to say before posting again. Semicolon (talk) 20:52, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Ahoy hoy

I'm on IRC now, if you want to talk. PenguinofDeath 20:07, April 8, 2010 (UTC)

Smasher:Hack

I do not know of him but I do not know as much about European Smash. Judging by videos of him vs Armada at SKOnnett (just look up Hack(Marth), he looks like a Semi-Pro (or, a good player from his area but not top top like a professional. --KoRoBeNiKi (talk) 23:49, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

FYI

I was considering blocking the guy who posted TR4Q, since I'd heard somewhere that such was an instant block. But I didn't see anything about that offense specifically on the policy page, so I asked Salad on IRC. He said something to the effect of "just remove it tbh, block him if he puts it back". Just so you know. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 16:37, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know if we have it codified, but we made it an administrative decision around the last merge. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 16:46, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, okay. Should it remain an unwritten rule, or should it be put into SW:BLOCK? Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 16:51, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
I certainly hope this only encompasses useless tr4q messages and not ones that are actual arguments that happen to contain the phrase. Shadowcrest 18:47, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
If you are talking about someone asking if we should keep it in the page (or doing as you have done), then absolutely they shouldn't be banned. However, even if someone is actually arguing, there is no need for them to be using stereotypical derogatory remarks. For example, imagine someone coming on your talk page and writing, "I really don't agree with the User Talk Page Guidelines. I think that more leeway should be allowed for users to have conversations about crew matters. Can you provide the reasons that this was first implemented. Oh, and anyone who supports the UTPG is a bunch of fags." Even though s/he is legitimately arguing, they would be banned for the last part. If someone has a legit argument, they don't need to use tr4q and if they don't they shouldn't be using it anyway. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 20:56, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
If I were to say "[...] your piss-poor argument is far from watertight", would I be banned then? Shadowcrest 23:08, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
No, but considering you're the one who says that wikilawyering isn't allowed, I think this one can be left to a judgment call. Also, I will say (and please do not take this the wrong way) that I am more tolerant of someone calling a single person someone a "stupid fuck" or "douche bag" than I am of stereotypical racial/sexual/etc. slurs.
