Umebura SP 11 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor held in Minato, Tokyo, Kantō, on September 14th-15th, 2024.

Tournament summary

Umebura SP 11 is the fourth P-Tier of the 2024.2 season. Just like the last iteration in January, the tournament gather almost all of Japan's best players, as 68 of the 84 japanese players in the Lumirank 2024.1 top 150 were present (notably missing was Yaura, who is on a hiatus). Both Maister and MkLeo also came to the tournament, being the 2 main invaders.

The only two notable upsets over top players before top 256 were Bayonetta main and #223 Imokenpi beating 3-2 #34 Yamanaction and Pichu main and #215 Kizuha beating 3-2 #42 Lax (both being Upset factor 5). Both finished at 193rd, with Yamanaction losing 0-3 to #95 NaNo (UF 2) (tied with Evo Japan 2020 as his worst result) and Lax losing 1-3 to Wolf main and #170 Shori (UF 4) (his second worst result).

In top 256, #17 Lv.1 lost 2-3 to #112 Crete (UF 2). Other notable upsets include #31 Reno losing to #98 Shion 2-3 (UF 4), #36 Navy losing to #164 Rearlet 0-3 (UF 4) and #37 Nao losing to #421 Lunia 2-3 (UF 7). In top 128, the number of upsets greatly increased. 3 top 16 seeds were notably upsets: #14 Yoshidora lost 2-3 to #78 Tsuna (UF 5), #12 KEN lost 2-3 to #76 Tameigo (UF 6) and #10 Zackray lost 1-3 to #55 Kome (UF 5). Additionally, #122 Tsubotsubo knocked out of the tournament #26 Umeki at 65th 0-3 (UF 4).

The number of upsets were at the highest in top 64. Lunia continued his breakout run by scoring the biggest upset of the tournament, eliminating #18 Kameme at 33rd 3-1 as the 421th seed, for a upset factor 9, also beating #60 Huto 3-1 (UF 6). #8 TamaPDaifuku losing to #40 Raki 1-3 and #6 Asimo losing to #27 alice 1-3 (both upset factor 5) are the first top 8 seeds upsets. Lv.1, after being upset early, lost 0-3 to #65 Omuatsu (UF 4), placing 49th, his worst result since Kagaribi 10 one year ago, and #24 Toriguri lost 0-3 to #51 Gachipi (UF 3), finishing at 33rd. Both #16 Maister and #23 Gackt were send to loser's early, as Maister lost 1-3 to #48 Chicken and Gackt lost 0-3 to Kome (both UF 3).

After top 64, outside of #9 Tea (losing to Raki 1-3 in winner's side and #39 Akio in loser's, both UF 4, placing 13th), the upsets only concern top 8 seeds. Asimo was eliminated at 25th by #25 Shirayuki 1-3 (UF 5), and TamaP at 17th by #15 Akakikusu 0-3 (UF 2). Lastly, #4 Shuton and #5 Raru didn't make into top 8 despite reach winner's quarters, finishing at 9th. Shuton lost 1-3 to #13 Snow (UF 4) (the first time Snow beat Shuton after losing to him 4 times) and #7 Doramigi 1-3 (UF 2), while Raru lost to Snow 2-3 and Akakikusu (both UF 3). As such, only half of the top 8 seeds make into top 8.

Outside of his two upsets, Akakikusu entered loser side top 8 by defeating Rarikkusu, Kameme and Carmelo, while Doramigi also beat Paseriman, Akio and Kome, both being send to loser's by Miya. Also in the loser side were Zackray and #11 MkLeo. After his early loss to Kome, Zackray made a impressive 7-set long loser's run, knocking out of the tournament Gorioka, Tameigo, alice, MASA and Raki. MkLeo beat MairudonaH.O, Karaage and alice to reach winners quarters were he lost a close game 5 set to #3 Hurt, lastly defeating Akio to enter top 8. In winner side, both #2 Miya and #1 Acola cruised through their bracket to enter top 8, both only losing 3 games, with Miya sending to loser's Shion, Akakikusu and Doramigi, and Acola Ezs, Omuatsu, Carmelo, Chicken and Raki. Hurt also entered winner side top 8, defeating Taikei, ElleGo and MkLeo. Lastly Snow, who has also defeated Abadango, sssr and M0tsunabE outside of his two upsets, is the only non-top 8 seed to enter winner side top 8.

Outside of Raki, Kome and Lunia, #39 Akio made a great run to 9th, with wins over Umeki, sssr, Lunia and Chicken. #46 ElleGo placing 17th also marks one of the best Young Link performances since Suinoko's 13th place at Umebura Sp 10 in January, with wins over DieGorou, Ryuoh and Tsuna.

In top 8, Akakikusu was eliminated at 7th by Zackray 1-3 alongside Doramigi, who lost against Mkleo's Meta Knight 2-3. In winner's semifinals, while Miya defeat Hurt as seeded, Snow made a another upset, as he won the set against acola 3-2 (UF 7), probably the best win Mario have since Kurama's win over MkLeo at Frostbite 2020. The other upset in top 8 is Zackray eliminating Hurt 3-1 at 5th (UF 4). Miya entered winner side grand final after winning the set vs Snow 3-0. In loser's side, acola defeat MkLeo in a close game 5 set, eliminating MkLeo at 5th, his best placement at a major since his victory at King Con in February 2024. It's also the first time he made top 8 at a P-Tier since his first place at Genesis 9 in January 2023. This run, and especially his close sets with Hurt and acola, make people believe that MkLeo will reclame a top 10 spot worldwide. acola also eliminated Zackray at 4th 3-0 and won the runback against Snow 3-1, who placed 3rd at a P-Tier, one of the best Mario performances in Ultimate. In a another classical japanese grand finals between Miya and acola (who decides to go only Aegis), the latter managed to reset the bracket 3-2 but Miya won the reset 3-1, winning back-to-back two japanese P-Tier, his fourth P-Tier win in 2024 and solidifying as a serious contender for the Number 1 spot of the season despite his underperformances in North America.
