Example: New England
New England is a Smash region located in the Northeastern United States. It corresponds to the general definition of the New England states, including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Southwestern Connecticut also overlaps with the Tristate Area surrounding New York City. Within New England, the largest tournament activity can be found in the Boston metropolitan area, although tournament activity exists throughout the region.
New England has been home to an active Smash Bros. scene since the release; it was most famous as the home of KoreanDJ, one of the best players in the world during the pre- era. Although New England today is relatively weaker than the United States' other major regions in terms of playerbase, it is known for hosting one of the biggest college and university Smash scenes in the country, due to its large student population. New England was the birthplace of The Melee Games and other college Smash events, thanks to the work of dedicated TOs such as MattDotZeb. Its largest tournament series is Shine, which has since reached supermajor levels.
