This article is about taunts in Super Smash Bros. 4. For general information, see Taunt.

The following is a list of all taunts in Super Smash Bros. 4.

Bayonetta

  • Up taunt: Twirls around like a ballet dancer, moves both arms around her in a graceful manner, then strikes a pose with both arms over her head, saying, "If you need to learn how to talk to a lady, ask your mum." Based on her long taunt from Bayonetta 2.
  • Side taunt: Gracefully spins around, then points both guns directly in front of her, saying, "New 'do, dead you." The quote comes from her short taunt while wielding Salamandra in Bayonetta 2.
  • Down taunt: Poses with her guns around her head in multiple ways, framing her head and torso with her guns, performs a broad back step, looking away from her opponent one moment, then looking back. Based on the dances she performs prior to fighting Joy for the first time.

*Due to the length of her taunts, players are capable of canceling them halfway through.

Bowser

  • Up Taunt: Throws his head back, spinning it in a circle, and roars.
  • Side Taunt: Snaps furiously forward five times.
  • Down Taunt: Balances precariously on one leg, similar to his teetering animation.

Bowser Jr.

  • Up Taunt: Jumps up, sits on the edge of the Junior Clown Car, and makes a tiny breath of fire, chuckling.
  • Side Taunt: Twirls a hammer.
  • Down Taunt: The Clown Car spawns its wheels and performs a donut, then returns to normal.

Captain Falcon

  • Up Taunt: Charges himself up with fire, similar to a Falcon Punch.
  • Side Taunt: Holds out his hand and challenges, "Come on!"
  • Down Taunt: Faces the screen, salutes and exclaims "Show me your moves!" This taunt is notable for having a different animation depending on whether the character is facing right or left; Falcon will finish the taunt faster if he faces the left.

Charizard

  • Up taunt: Faces the screen, lowering its head, then roars towards the sky while flapping its wings. Similar to its pose when entering a battle in Pokémon Stadium.
  • Side taunt: Faces the screen while growling and extending its wings, flapping them at the screen.
  • Down taunt: Looks at the screen while growling and stomping viciously.

Cloud

  • Up taunt: Twirls his Buster Sword and places behind his back, referencing his victory animation from Final Fantasy VII, while saying 興味ないね, which translates to "Not interested".
  • Side taunt: Places his Buster Sword on his back, places his hands together, and mimics the casting animation from Final Fantasy VII, complete with the sound effect and the glow.
  • Down taunt: Stands his Buster Sword on its tip and poses in a casual manner while scoffing.

Corrin

  • Up taunt: Ducks down and comes back up in dragon form. The male version says "My path is clear!" (好きにはさせない!, I won't let you have your way!), and the female version says "Let's do this!" (行きますよ!, Here I come!).
  • Side taunt: Twirls the Omega Yato. The male version says "I've made my choice." (僕は選んだ!, I've made my choice!), and the female says "Your fate is clear." (折れたりしません!, I will not surrender!) Resembles Corrin's animation before a battle in Fire Emblem Fates.
  • Down taunt: Twirls the Omega Yato in the air and then places it on its tip. The male variation says "Are you ready?" (準備はいい?), while the female says "You ready for this?" (準備はいいですか?, Are you ready?).

Dark Pit

  • Up Taunt: Taps his shoulder with one of his blades and motions with his left hand, saying "Who wants some?" (かかってこい。, Bring it on.).
  • Side Taunt: Spins his bow in front of him while facing the screen, before swinging one of his blades and saying "Watch out!" (いくぜ!, Here we go!).
  • Down Taunt: Turns around a bit, then points with his right blade, saying "Game on!" (死にたいヤツは前に出ろ。, Step right up if you want to die.).

Diddy Kong

  • Up Taunt: Throws his cap up in the air and catches it on his head. This is a reference to his victory pose in Donkey Kong Country, after he defeats a boss or wins in a bonus room.
  • Side Taunt: Holds his hands in front of him, chattering.
  • Down Taunt: Jumps from one foot to the other, clapping his hands above his head.

Donkey Kong

  • Up Taunt: Beats his chest.
  • Side Taunt: Shakes himself, as if his fur was wet.
  • Down Taunt: Faces the screen and shrugs his shoulders, making a confused noise. DK's eyes now grow and shrink exaggeratedly when performing this taunt.

Dr. Mario

  • Up Taunt: Grinds his shoe on the ground.
  • Side Taunt: Throws a Megavitamin up in the air along his arm, before catching it, as in Melee. Like his Neutral Special, the two colors on the Megavitamin are random.
  • Down Taunt: Taps himself on the shoulder with a closed fist.

Duck Hunt

  • Up Taunt: The dog performs a frontal hand stand, while the duck negatively responds to him.
  • Side Taunt: The dog lays on his side and does his infamous laugh (without the NES sound effect), while the duck flies next to him.
  • Down Taunt: The dog stands on his back legs and does a dance.

Falco

  • Up Taunt: Kicks his reflector around and says "Piece of cake." (楽勝だぜ。, An easy win.) before catching it.
  • Side Taunt: Holds out his hand and slowly raises it, saying "Get some!" (かかってきな。, Come bring it.)
  • Down Taunt: Spins on one foot, then poses with one of his arms/wings before him, stating "Hands off my prey!" (俺の獲物に手を出すな!, Get your hands off my prey!) whilst doing so.

Fox

  • Up Taunt: Charges up with flames, like with his Fire Fox move, and says "Here I come!" (行くぞ!, Let's go!)
  • Side Taunt: Throws and catches his blaster.
  • Down Taunt: Leans back and states "Come on!" (かかってこい!, Come at me!) whilst beckoning with his hand.

Ganondorf

  • Up Taunt: Hovers in mid-air and spins before laughing menacingly.
  • Side Taunt: Slams his fist into his open palm and cracks his knuckles, creating dark flames and saying "Heh!"
  • Down Taunt: Takes out his sword, looks at it, which emits darkness from the tip, and then puts it back. Unlike in Brawl, Ganondorf has a more obvious contemplative expression when doing so, and his eyes move to look at the sword.

Greninja

  • Up Taunt: Stands on its hind legs and performs a pose. This is its attack animation from the Pokémon series.
  • Side Taunt: Whips its tongue side to side.
  • Down Taunt: Holds out its hands, faces the screen, and summons small sprays of water. The sprays can do 1% or 2% damage and produce some knockback, though they're able to KO only at above 420%. A video showing the exact KO percentages at which each character can be KO'd can be found here.

Ike

  • Up Taunt: Charges up his sword as wind blows into his cape, grunting loudly.
  • Side Taunt: Holds out his sword and says "Prepare yourself!" (覚悟しろ。, Get prepared.) Based off of his pre-fight animation in Radiant Dawn.
  • Down Taunt: Wind blows into his cape as he slams his sword into the ground and grunts, before removing it.

Jigglypuff

  • Up Taunt: Spins around on one foot, then faces at the screen inflated, saying "Jigglypuff!" (プリプリーン!)
  • Side Taunt: Twirls around many times, then strikes a pose. (similar to Kirby's side taunt, except it twirls faster).
  • Down Taunt: Breathes all the air out of itself and falls to the ground, flattened. It inflates itself upon contact. Similar to its fainting animation in home-console Pokémon games, such as Pokémon Stadium and Battle Revolution.

King Dedede

  • Up Taunt: Holds up his hammer in celebration.
  • Side Taunt: Twirls his hammer and laughs.
  • Down Taunt: Spins around in a circle, chanting.

Kirby

Usage of any of these taunts will get rid of whatever ability he has copied.

  • Up Taunt: Performs part of his victory dance.
  • Side Taunt: Does a twirl, similar to the action he does when selected to play in Smash 64.
  • Down Taunt: Waves and says "Hi!", facing the screen.

Link

  • Up Taunt: Swings his sword, then sheathes and unsheathes it. This is a reference to an animation he performs after learning a Hidden Skill or defeating a boss in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
  • Side Taunt: Navi flies out in front of him, then returns.
  • Down Taunt: Performs a pose whereby he stands on one leg and holds his sword in an attack position. It is similar to the pose he performs after hitting an enemy with his sword in Zelda II: Adventure of Link.

Little Mac

  • Up Taunt: Turns his back to the screen, bends down, then raises his fist triumphantly. Sometimes, Doc Louis will chime in and say "Hit 'em, baby!" (叩け!マック!, Strike! Mac!)
  • Side Taunt: Pulls the string of his right boxing glove tight with his teeth, then gets back to his battle stance while scoffing. Sometimes, Doc Louis will chime in and say "Let 'em have it, Mac!" (ぶちかませ!マック!, Hit them hard! Mac!)
  • Down Taunt: Performs a series of punches while facing the screen. Sometimes, Doc Louis will chime in and say "Show 'em what you got, Mac baby!" (お前のパンチを見せてやれ!, Show them your punch!)

Lucario

  • Up Taunt: Floats in mid-air and growls, emitting aura from its body.
  • Side Taunt: Moves one hand forward and one behind its back, growling.
  • Down Taunt: Stands on one foot and holds one hand in mid-air. This taunt is very similar to Link's down taunt.

Lucas

  • Up Taunt: Trips over and shakes his head, similar to his pratfall animation.
  • Side Taunt: Duster's Rope Snake comes out and talks to him, to which Lucas shrugs.
  • Down Taunt: Holds out a sparkle and fires it behind him, grunting.

Lucina

  • Up Taunt: Twirls the Falchion, then holds it like in her official art, taunting her opponent by saying, "Come at me!" (かかってきなさい, Come at me if you would.) resembling her official SSB4 render.
  • Side Taunt: Turns around and sheathes Falchion, saying "I cannot lose!" (負けられませんから, I won't lose from here on.)
  • Down Taunt: Puts on, then takes off, the mask she wore in Fire Emblem Awakening when she was in the guise of Marth.

Luigi

  • Up Taunt: Performs five quick poses, one after the other. When switching from pose to pose he says, "Ho ha hee hay hoo".
  1. Flashes a V-Sign.
  2. Points both his fingers in the direction he is facing, looking frightened.
  3. Holds his finger under his nose, his eyes looking at the player. This pose is, in some respects, similar to his Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time artwork.
  4. Crouches down to the floor with his back turned to the player.
  5. Assumes a fearful position with his hands on his cheeks, mimicking his artwork from Luigi's Mansion.
  • Side Taunt: Stands straight up with hands on hips, falls forward stiff on the floor, then seems to balance himself back up again. He says something that resembles "Pow pow". This is also one of his victory poses from the Smash games starting with Melee and the pose in his SSB4 artwork when getting upright.
  • Down Taunt: Crosses his arms behind his back and performs a small, shy kick, along with a bashful "Hm". The kick can damage an opponent if it connects, acting as a meteor smash; in this game, Luigi's taunt is the strongest meteor smash at 0%, due to its fixed knockback. However, its pitiful range and slow startup severely limits its effectiveness. It is similar to his pose when he loses a minigame in Mario Party 2.

Mario

  • Up Taunt: Grows to a super-size, as if taking a Super Mushroom power-up, before shrinking again. This also increases his hurtbox. The size increase stacks with special matches and actual Super Mushrooms. During the taunt, Mario mimics his standing pose seen in the original Super Mario Bros.
  • Side Taunt: Twirls and removes his cap. Mario often does this taunt when he completes a level in some of his games, mainly New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 64, but the animation closely resembles the one he performs in New Super Mario Bros.
  • Down Taunt: Spins around in mid-air with his arms and legs outstretched before falling on his back. This is a reference to his dying animation in the original Donkey Kong game.

Marth

  • Up Taunt: Holds up his sword, emitting light from the tip.
  • Side Taunt: Furiously swings his sword before resheathing it.
  • Down Taunt: Swings his sword around and says in Japanese: みんな、見ていてくれ! ("Everyone, watch over me!").

Mega Man

  • Up Taunt: Shows off his arm cannon while facing the screen, then pumps his fist.
  • Side Taunt: Turns his back to the screen and poses.
  • Down Taunt: Warps out, then back in, similar to his entrance animation in his home series.

Meta Knight

  • Up Taunt: Spins around in his cape, similar to his entrance animation.
  • Side Taunt: Points his sword forward, says "Fight me!" and waves it a few times. Meta Knight tends to point out his sword before various fights against him in the Kirby games.
  • Down Taunt: Opens his wings and challenges "Come!". If he performs it facing left, he will look at the background instead, as characters in Smash 64 did.

Mewtwo

  • Up Taunt: Crosses its arms and spins in mid-air, laughing, as in Melee.
  • Side Taunt: Charges up darkness energy, similar to Captain Falcon, Fox, and Lucario.

  • Side Taunt: Hold the arm cannon with their hand and cocks it down, similar to one of Samus' win poses.
  • Down Taunt: Thrusts with the arm cannon on the ground.

Mii Swordfighter

  • Up Taunt: Throws sword in the air, spins, and catches sword similar to what Fox does with his blaster in one of his taunts.
  • Side Taunt: Twirls sword, then holds it in reverse grip behind.
  • Down Taunt: Performs a pose similar to one of Link's taunts. Also sets them back a little.

Mr. Game & Watch

  • Side Taunt: Lies on the floor and rolls around slightly, similar to Pikachu's taunt.
  • Down Taunt: Swings his hips.

Pac-Man

  • Up Taunt: Namco Roulette, where he summons a sprite and associated sound effect from a classic Namco game.
  • Side Taunt: Turns into his classic design and chomps from side to side while a sound from Pac-Man plays.
  • Down Taunt: Lays on the ground as a 5-note jingle plays while Blinky, Pinky, and a few music notes appear above his head.

Palutena

  • Up Taunt: Spreads out her wings, similar to Pit, while showing her goddess icon and says, "You shall be purified!". (浄化してあげましょう, You will be purified.)
  • Side Taunt: Laughs tauntingly as she spins around her staff with one leg up.
  • Down Taunt: Smiling, tosses her hair as her staff hovers, and her goddess icon flashes while saying, "Ready when you are!". (いつでもどうぞ?, Feel free whenever.)

Pit

  • Up Taunt: Spins his swords above his head and declares "Come on!" (勝負だ!, Battle!)
  • Side Taunt: Swings his swords and says "That all you got?" (まだまだ!, Not over yet!)
  • Down Taunt: Opens his wings and starts ascending.

R.O.B.

  • Up Taunt: Faces the screen and spins his arms and head in a circle.
  • Side Taunt: Faces the screen and moves his head around, firing a small laser from his eyes.
  • Down Taunt: Faces the screen, moves his arms down and then moves them back up again, spinning them whilst he does so. Based off R.O.B.'s victory animation from Mario Kart DS.

Robin

  • Up Taunt: Points sword upwards while saying, "Let's tip the scales!" (戦局を変える, I'll change the state of war.). Female Robin says, "Time to tip the scales!" (戦局を変えます, I'll change the state of war.).
  • Side Taunt: Both their tome and sword hover over the respective hand, sword rotating in place while saying, "Prepare yourself!". In Japanese, male Robin says 覚悟はいいかい, (Get ready.), while female Robin says 覚悟はいいですか, (Are you ready?).
  • Down Taunt: His sword and tome encircle him via magic while saying, "You're not ready!" (やってやるさ, Let's do it, then.). Female Robin says, "Here I go!" (いきますよ, Let's go!).

Rosalina & Luma

  • Up Taunt: Rosalina and Luma lean forward and spin, like a planet on its axis.
  • Side Taunt: Puts her hand on her hip, leans back, waves her wand, and says "Mm-hmm"; Luma nods its head.
  • Down Taunt: Waves her wand up, similarly to when she summons Luma; Luma dances around.

Roy

  • Up Taunt: Roy holds his sword above his head.
  • Side Taunt: Roy holds his sword toward the screen, saying "僕 は 負けない!", which translates to "I won't lose!" This line was one of his victory quotes in Melee.
  • Down Taunt: Kneels and holds his sword behind him while yelling, like in Melee.

Ryu

  • Up Taunt: Turns around, reties his headband, while stating "Come on!" (かかってこい!, Come on!) This is one of his taunts from Street Fighter IV.
  • Side Taunt: Ryu holds his fist forwards, and declares "Talk is cheap!" (拳で語り合おう!, Let your fists talk!). This is one of his taunts from Street Fighter IV.
  • Down Taunt: Stomps on the ground and grunts. This is his taunt from most of the Vs. Capcom series games.

Interestingly, the two taunts from Street Fighter IV have their quotes reversed in SSB4.

Samus

  • Up Taunt: Thrusts her hand behind her while the jets on her back light up.
  • Side Taunt: Part of her arm cannon comes out, with the Zero Laser part shown.
  • Down Taunt: Points her arm cannon behind her, then in front of her.

  • Down Taunt: Performs a threatening pose with her right hand before her face.

Shulk

  • Up Taunt: Holds out his right hand, and says while shaking his head, "Now it's Shulk time!" (穏やかじゃないですね, Not being gentle, huh?). References a line his fellow companion and best friend Reyn can potentially say while in combat, "Now It's Reyn Time!".

  • Down Taunt: Performs a windmill, saying "Come on!" in both English and Japanese.

Toon Link

  • Up Taunt: Waves the Wind Waker to that of "Wind God's Aria", conducting a tune at the end, which is the same one heard after completing a song in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. However, he will only face the screen if facing left; if he performs it when facing right, he will face the background instead.
  • Side Taunt: Looks around uncertainly; unlike in Brawl, a fairy flies around him as he does so, making it more similar to Link's taunt.
  • Down Taunt: Swings his sword around in a blind panic, so much so it tires him out and he gasps for breath.
