Neutral Attack is a typically fast ground attack performed by pressing the neutral attack button while leaving the control stick or directional pad neutral. Some characters have natural combos performable by tapping the A button multiple times.

Three Hit Combos

The most common type of Neutral combos. Involves the attacker doing a three hit combo at max.

Brawl

Two Hit Combos

Rarer than three hit combos. Does a maximum of two hits instead of three.

Brawl

One Hit combo

The rarest combo. Only does one hit. Deals decent damage and knockback.

Melee and Brawl

Rapid A Combos

In Brawl, some characters have a turbo neutral attack, meaning that by holding the attack button, their first neutral attack will repeat endlessly. These characters have natural combos that can be repeated forever as long as the player continues pressing the neutral attack button (and does not get attacked):

In Super Smash Bros.

Melee

Brawl

It's also possible to crouch to regain the first attack of neutral combo.

.* Pit is the only character in Brawl to have both a three hit combo and a Rapid neutral combo.

Many neutral neutral attacks are jabs, or quick punches meant to put the opponent off balance or combo into subsequent hits.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, all one needs to do is hold down the A button to automatically do their attack combo and Rapid neutral combos (with the exception of Pit, holding down the neutral attack button will end up doing his 3-hit combo).[1]

It is also worth noting that Captain Falcon's neutral combo is different than any other. Almost all other Rapid neutral combos hit once or twice, then the Rapid combo part starts. This is not so with Captain Falcon. His neutral Rapid neutral combo hits 3 times before doing the Rapid neutral part.
