A Ticken (テキン, Tekin) is an enemy in the Subspace Emissary and first appears in The Plain. It looks like a giant, metallic chicken, though upon defeat, its "body" falls apart and reveals that a yellow bird was piloting the Ticken. The bird chirps, then flies away. The Ticken has two attacks, one where it flies into the air and then attacks with an attack similar to the Bowser or Yoshi Bomb, which can bury, and another where it extends its spikes and rams the player.

Name origin

Ticken's name is a combination of the words tick, describing what it does with its sharp, metal comb, and chicken, describing the creature itself. It's Japanese name "Tekin/テキン" seems to be a corruption of "chicken (チキン)", as the katakana te/テ and chi/チ look very similar.

Trophy description

The Ticken trophy in Brawl.

An enemy that looks like a chicken--quite a hefty chicken. But despite its weight, it can indeed fly. After taking a certain amount of damage, a Ticken will open up to reveal a little chick enemy. Notice the two bolts on its belly? And what's the deal with the four missing bolts? It probably hasn't even noticed they're missing.

Trivia

  • The Ticken enemy is similar to enemies found in the Sonic series. Both feature a robot-like animal being broken in order to release a small, real animal inside.
