The Original Heavyweights is the first single-player event match in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. In it, Mario must defeat the two heaviest characters in the game, Bowser and Donkey Kong. Clearing this event unlocks Kongo Jungle 64.
Progression
This event is available from the start. Completing the event unlocks the Kongo Jungle 64 stage on the challenge board, as well as the right, down, and left paths. Once both the event is completed and Falco is unlocked, the up path is unlocked.
- Up path: Awards the Pipes trophy. Leads to Up to Speed.
- Right path: Leads to Four Swords Adventures.
- Down path: Awards 500G. Leads to The Big 7650!.
- Left path: Leads to The Destroyer Cometh.
Completing the event without taking any damage awards a Fire Flower Overalls equipment.
Trivia
- The music used in this event, Airship Theme (Super Mario Bros. 3), normally plays on Luigi's Mansion, rather than Mario Galaxy.
- This event seems to mimic the first event matches from the previous two installments (Melee and Brawl). Because in Melee, Event 1: Trouble King has Mario as the assigned character while Event 42: Trouble King 2 has Luigi. In Brawl, the solo event Event 1: Two Trouble Kings has Mario as the assigned character while Co-Op Event 1: Two Trouble Kings has Mario (for P1) Kirby (for P2). All three of these events (Event 1: Trouble King, Event 1: Two Trouble Kings, and Co-Op Event 1: Two Trouble Kings) are the first events and all three events feature Bowser as one of the opponents.
- This is the only event that opens up more than two paths.
