This article is about Pikachu's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. For other uses, see Pikachu.

Announced at E3 2006, Pikachu (ピカチュウ, Pikachū) has been confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Graphically, Pikachu appears to be slightly furrier, lighter and softer than it was in Melee. It has two new costume changes as well: Pichu's old goggles, and a green headband worn by the male player character in Pokémon Emerald.

All of Pikachu's Special Moves are confirmed to return. It has also been seen using a forward smash and a down smash. Its forward smash seems longer.

Pikachu's Final Smash is called Volt Tackle. It transforms it into a ball of light, which it can control for a short period of time.

Event Matches

Sleeping in the Egg- The player controls Yoshi and has to use Egg Lay on Kirby and Pikachu simultaneously. [1]

Role In the Subspace Emissary

Pikachu was trapped in a subspace lab, being cloned for a Shadowbug version of him. Luckily, Zero Suit Samus rescues Pikachu. This set off the alarm, however, and ROBs rushed into the lab to fight off the pair.

Changes From Melee

  • Forward and Down Smash longer ranged
  • Up Aerial deals more damage
  • Thunder is faster and no longer has vertical cap

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • High running speed
  • Tilts very quick
  • Up Aerial can semi-spike
  • Up Smash is one of the quickest and most powerful in the game
  • Down Smash sucks in and has multiple hits
  • Forward Smash has long, disjointed hitbox
  • Decent Projectile
  • Small target
  • Thunder is great for aiding off the top kills, comes out quickly and has little downtime upon completion

Cons:

  • Most aerials on the weak side, and a little laggy in completing
  • Forward Smash is best horizontal killer, and is rather slow coming out
  • Light weight
