FE13 Lucina Lord Map Sprite.gif This user's favorite character is a swordsman, the color blue, and wears a mask. But which one?... ;)

Hi, I'm Ken, better known in the Smash community as MetaKing, and I'm a contributor to this wiki, and a dedicated Meta Knight main with a Lucina co-main.

My first experience with Smash as a whole was when I was at a friend's place when I was 4 years old. She had a GameCube and a copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee. While I was only familiar with a few of the characters at the time (eg. Mario, Kirby, Pikachu, etc.), I was breath taken by the number of playable characters from different franchises all in one game. The first character I picked was Marth, as blue (is) my favorite color and I thought he looked "cool" and "powerful". As you can see, that has stuck to this day lol. :)

My own household experience with Smash began two years later, where at the time I only had my Wii and a few games to play with. Until one day at a yard sale I saw a copy of Melee, two Wavebird Controllers (I eventually got Wired Controllers), and a Memory Card for sale. Ever since that day, I knew that the series would be with me for a very long time.

As stated above, I'm a very dedicated Meta Knight player because of my childhood experiences with The Kirby Series, and will probably continue to play him no matter what Buff, Nerf, controversy, Tier list, or player opinion. Recently though, I've been finding it harder to solo-main MK continuously like I use to, not to mention playing him for so long is also starting to wear on me to the point of there being days where I just don't feel like playing him at all, and end up playing other characters instead. So, while I'll definitely still be maining him, and he will likely be the character I use primarily in tournaments, I'll also be trying to dedicate my time to other characters, to see if any can relieve my "boredom", so to speak, of MK.

Recently however, with the ongoing pandemic and Ultimate's terrible online being the only safe solution to play, I've basically become inactive with the game and with Smash in general (including contributing to this Wiki). I just don't seem to have the drive or passion for the series anymore like I use to, and if I'm honest, I've felt this way long before the pandemic because I've just felt dissatisfied with Ultimate in general. I don't really like some of the games aspects such as the 8 frame input delay instead of 6, annoyingly unresponsive buffer system, not being able to run past opponents, lack of advanced techniques to speed up gameplay, how every move practically feels + on shield, rather 1-dimensional and uninteresting neutral/characters in general; I could go on, but I've gotta stop somewhere. I've also been trying to shift my focus towards the real world more as much as I can in its current state, having recently graduated high school and heading towards post-secondary. So yeah, with everything happening right now - including all the things going on if you know what July 1st, 2020 is all about (yikes) -, I honestly down feel the need or want to be a part of it currently. I'll probably return once things get better for everyone, and obviously I'll still keep in touch with the friends I've made through Smash and watch videos of it here and there, but for now, for the first time in the longest time, Smash doesn't really feel like a big part of my life anymore, and in its current state, and I don't want it to be.

Where can you find me:

Random facts from me

  • My favorite Smash characters overall are Meta Knight (duh) and Marth/Lucina. The fact that all are my favorite color (blue), and wield swords catches my interest, as well as me loving them in their origin games/series. The fact that Meta Knight and Lucina both wear masks though is purely coincidental.
    • On that note, my two favorite Smash chracters to play are Brawl Meta Knight and Melee/Project+ Marth.
  • My favorite video game characters overall are, Meta Knight (again) and Alucard.
  • My favorite game is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
  • My favorite smash player overall is Leffen.
  • I am left-handed.
  • My most wanted characters for Ultimate are/were Bandana Waddle Dee and Alucard (respectively), with the latter being (unfortunately) given an Assist Trophy status, and the former the Spirit treatment.
  • I make perler bead sprite art often. You can see some of the stuff I've made and new things on my social media accounts if you're interested.

About my mains

  • How high the character is indicates how much I generally like and/or play them.
  • Note that I am currently inactive for Smash 64, Melee, Brawl, Smash 4, and Project M, so info may be outdated and/or informally written.
Super Smash Bros.
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains I've never had an interest in playing any other character besides Falcon as a primary main, as he was the character that fit me the most. I really don't see Smash 64 as something I'll play truly competitively due to its higher learning curve compared to the other games, so I rarely play it in friendlies either, but Falcon is always the character I turn to. Before I unlocked Falcon as a kid, Kirby and Fox were my mains, and decided to keep Kirby as primary secondaries after I decided to main Falcon, though Kirby ended up being a dual-main with Falcon, even if I'm inactive with Smash 64 at this point.
VeryHardDifficulty.pngSecondaries I generally liked playing as Luigi as a kid, and even though he's definitely the worst character in the game, if I'm playing Luigi against someone, it probably means I don't care about winning anymore lol.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains Before I got Melee for myself, I played the game at a friend's house, and believe it or not, Marth was the first Smash Bros. character I ever played! After I got Melee, I immediately unlocked Marth first. After I started to learn the game competitively, and learned about all the advanced techniques and tier lists, I knew I made a good choice of choosing Marth.

I don't recall how I got to main Falco, but he seems to fit my playstyle well, and I felt like I can learn the game's fundamentals, like neutral or disadvantage state from him, so here he is.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains I feel like (for all versions of MK tbh) whenever I'd meet someone new and they learn I main MK, I always have to explain that I main him not because he (was) the best character - I honestly didn't even know he was for a while -, I main him because he's is my favourite video game character. I cannot count how many times I've had to explain that lol. Anyway, Meta Knight in Brawl was really fun for me because he could do anything I wanted for a character, and as a result, fit my playstyle perfectly. It was like I was meant to play him... Maybe that had to do with him being a literal god in Brawl, but the other games are proof against that I guess :P.
VeryHardDifficulty.pngSecondaries Similar reasons to Melee; good (Brawl) fundamentals such as DACUS, Gattling Combos, and what most people I know refer to as "Brawl BS", Chain grabbing and Camping :P XD.

For the rare occasion that there'd be an MK-banned tournament I'd happen to be at, at say a con, I felt like I needed to find a character in case I ever showed up to one at say a con, and along with Marth and Falco, Dedede was another character I picked up for that. I really liked his the unique things he could do, like his decent recovery, long range, Waddle Dees, and his infamous chain grab. The amount of times I actually made players rage-quit just from that is impressive (keep in mind that I would've been around ten or eleven years old around that time too lol), and landing that rare forward smash is o' so satisfying! Didn't help that the best player in my region happened to be one of the best Dedede's in the world too. At first, I hated some of the changes the did to Marth from Melee to Brawl, such as the reduced range and nerfed up tilt and down air, but after a while over time I've gotten to really like this Marth too, and while he is no longer my true main, he was one of my go to secondaries.

Super Smash Bros. 4
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains I definitely planned on maining Meta Knight again after he was announced, but during the time of October 2014-May 2015, I was honestly in doubt about his viability at the time, fearing that I would really have to work myself off in tournament if he were to be considered Low Tier. But as time went on, all of that changed for the better. After MkLeo's win against Mr. R at Smash Factor 4, I knew... "Meta Knight is (sort of) back!" Ever since then, I gotten decent results in tournament with him, and he became the character I am most recognized with around the players.

Before the game came out, of all the newcomers, Lucina was the only one I had any real interest in maining, due to my experience with Fire Emblem Awakening and her being similar to Marth. Rather ironic, thinking back, since she wasn't exactly "new" in her moveset compared to other newcomers lol. Anyway, when Smash 3DS came out in NA, while she I didn't think the character was as good as I wanted her to be intially, and decided to keep the character despite others' opinions. Another reason was because of Marth being my main in Melee (this was when I was also still active in Melee BTW), I thought Lucina's less precise playstyle wouldn't affect how I played Marth in Melee, and it seemed to work well with me. Overtime, the character's buffs turned her into my favourite character to play as other than MK in Smash 4. I'm always one to choose Lucina over Marth!

VeryHardDifficulty.pngSecondaries Not someone I'd necessarily pull out in tournaments seriously (not that he's bad, far from it, it's that I feel my Falcon was nowhere as strong as other Falcons in BC, which there were A LOT of), but he's hella fun to play, and you can really mess someone up if you get a good string with him going, especially on Smashville.

Fox is a rather interesting case compared to the others. I only started playing him during the start of Summer 2018 (when Smash 4 was practically on its death bed), and only did it because some of my friends had been recommending him to me for a while before then. When I stared playing and learning his combos, movement, neutral, etc. I said to myself out loud "Why didn't I pick up this character back in 2015?". My Fox is not perfect by any means, hell no lol. But I feel like I was fairly competent with him on a "good day" so to speak.

I always found Luigi a fun character to play (as), so I planned to have him as a secondary for a long time (early 2016?), but like many, was reluctant because of my inability to mash perfectly, as my right hand isn't my dominant one. If my mashing was better than it is now, I would've picked him up as a potential (tri-)main(?). Despite this, he eventually became a secondary anyway, because "who doesn't love getting grabs as Luigi... I hated getting grabbed by Luigi tho".While I was very reluctant at first due to literally almost ever player in BC had a Cloud in some way (no joke, Doubles was a mess just as much as it was everywhere else), I eventually gave in since he's fun to play, and weirdly fit me, and that's not because he didn't require much effort to play, I swear lol.

The road for Falco has been a rocky one all the way in this game, and this reflects my opinions of him during that time. I too was shocked on how badly nerfed he became from Brawl to Smash 4, and while things like removing chain grabbing and double lasers made sense to me, nerfing the laser distance never felt right, and the down air nerf was straight up overkill; not that it was nerfed, but rather "how" it was nerfed. After his 1.0.8 buffs, I started to think of him more positively (at one point, I thought he could've been as good as the worst high tier), but by the end of Smash 4, his poor neutral and nearly as bad mobility, made my opinions and experiences with Falco a fun one, but a very bumpy one overall.Like with Falco, my experiences with Marth have been up, down, all over the place really. I was devastated with the changes they made with him as early as E3 2014; I actually even got to experience him too in my own hands, as he was the only character I played at those Best Buy demos around the same time. Regardless of what I thought about him statistically, I still kept him as one of my characters as per every Smash game, and was pleased to see the small buffs he would recieve in patches overtime. And after the big buffs he received in 1.1.4, I'm glad to say that my experience with Marth in Smash 4 ended on a positive note.Roy's an interesting one for me, as my opinion on him had been all over the place, perhaps more so than my other characters during Smash 4's life. When he was first released, I thought he was decent (around high tier?), but not really worth the crazy praise of "best sword fighter" others were giving him at the time. As time went on, however, and especially after Marth and Lucina's buffs, my opinions of Roy changed drastically by then, and I thought he was the most overrated character in the game, and possible one of the worst. By the end of Smash 4, however, I met some players in my region who started to do really well with the character in bracket, and Roy started to get better results as a (niche) secondary for some players as well, which changed my perception of him again, this time for the better, and while I didn't think he's anything above bottom of mid tier(?) at best, one thing's for certain: he's definitely fared better here than in Melee lol. After the buffs it got, a few of my friends actually recommended that I pick up Mewtwo as a secondary, and though it took me a while to get use to it, I think I got a good grasp on how to play the character by the end of Smash 4's life.

Kirby is a character who I always enjoyed watching; I loved his combo game and Kirby as a character himself. So, one day, out of sheer boredom, I randomly decided to pick up the character, and found him lots of fun to use. On the downside, he's super light, and his range and approach are pretty meh worthy, but since I play MK, I'm use to that kind of stuff :P.Originally, despite the character's nerfs (which I didn't notice for a while) I still loved playing as Dedede, and his reputation in BC is also strong because of Big D, and I use to see him as the most underrated character in the game, but, after gaining more experience, and from what Big D sees in him, I excepted overtime that Dedede is one of the worst characters in Smash 4, and I began playing him far less than I use to as a result. Despite this, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't fun to pull out the character again every now and then for some fun and hype moments, because playing right with Gordo traps were something worth saving a replay for lol.Similar reasons as Falcon TBH, except he's not fast or good lol.

Project M
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains Same as Melee. One of my favorite versions of Roy ever along with Ultimate Roy. Project M did a great job with buffs that actually matter to the character.
VeryHardDifficulty.pngSecondaries

While I mained the character before this, during the Summer of 2014, I went to Anime Revolution, an event Vancouver has annually, and played a TON of PM friendlies with MK. I was considered the best MK at that event, and really got me confident on my potential in tournaments.Captain Falcon is simply fun in almost every way. He's fun to, move around with, combo with, and even to kill with. Project M Falcon brought the best of this character from Melee with some minor buffs and his (very few) positives from Brawl, which I very much appreciate. Of course, he's still easy to combo, and his recovery is still mediocre, but I suppose it just wouldn't be Falcon if he wasn't lol.Same as Melee.

Under the influence of Big D (who was at Anime Revolution 2014... And who everyone got destroyed by lol) I decided to Keep Dedede around as a strong secondary.
