SSB4 past stages were never called 'familiar stages'. In the Direct, the 'familiar stages' was merely a statement to the audience saying that these stages are familiar, since they've appeared in Smash before. CloudSmash (talk) 04:29, 20 October 2014 (EDT)

Move?[edit]

I oppose a move. Past Stages is just as generic and is also an official term. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 15:04, 4 November 2014 (EST)

Oppose. "Returning" and "past" are somewhat—but not quite—synonyms, as in "to return from somewhere different (in this case, the previous game)". So there would be no reason whatsoever to move this. Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect!!! 15:11, 4 November 2014 (EST)

Oppose, "Returning Stages" has never been used to describe these stages, "Familiar Stages" however, has been used in two games, where as "Past Stages" has been used in one, however Past Stages is more generic, catch-all, and was used first so I won't argue that it shouldn't be the main title, but I will argue that Returning Stages shouldn't be used, heck I don't even think it deserves a redirect. Oppose for the reasons said above. TepigSprite.pngTepig (talk) 14:30, 16 December 2014 (EST)
Oppose and since this hasn't been touched since December and has no support, I am removing the tag. Serpent King (talk) 13:40, 14 May 2015 (EDT)

Deletion[edit]

I don't believe the fact that a stage is in more than one game is the basis for its own article. Almost all of the information on the page is listed in nearly the same format on stage. Past stages, familiar stage, returning stage could all redirect to a sub-header on the main stage article. Smore (talk) 09:53, July 13, 2019 (EDT)

Delete It used to be special/unique when a stage returned from a previous game. Since this is not the case anymore, I agree that this page can go. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Ghostbuster 12:04, July 13, 2019 (EDT)
Oppose while it’s no longer special if a stage was in multiple games, there was a distinction between past stages and new stages beyond newness in Melee and Brawl. Not only were they given specific monikers (past stages and melee stages), but they were also never used as a character’s Home stage (which has also kind of died off after 3DS). Nowadays, yes, they’re not special anymore, but back in Melee and Brawl, they kind of were. Lou Cena (talk) 14:20, July 13, 2019 (EDT)
I also oppose, parroting Lou Cena - something may be unimportant now, but that doesn't mean it wasn't important at all. Aidan, the Rurouni 14:24, July 13, 2019 (EDT)
The question is, is it enough to warrant its own article. They were only special in Melee and Brawl. I think the amount of information/explanation that exists for Past Stages in Melee and Melee Stages in Brawl is very minimal; basically just a sentence stating that they had a special name and were separate (to a degree). The sections for the games past Brawl are only here to prevent this article from being a stub (in my view). Smore (talk) 15:03, July 13, 2019 (EDT)
If we keep this page, I would at least propose differentiating between Melee and Brawl, which have returning stages as a separate section from the new ones, and Smash 4 and Ultimate, which freely intertwine the old stages with the new. ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 15:24, July 13, 2019 (EDT)
Why should we have 2 separate stages for what is generally the same concept? Lou Cena (talk) 18:51, July 13, 2019 (EDT)
I wasn't necessarily saying we should split them into separate pages. Rather, they're just treated inherently differently between games and should be acknowledged as such. "Past Stages" in Smash 4 and Ultimate are just the same as any other stage, being the majority of Ultimate's roster, compared to them being a limited, exclusive selection in the previous two games. ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 19:14, July 13, 2019 (EDT)
Oppose Same reason as Toomai. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is a never lover boy 19:22, October 6, 2019 (EDT)
Toomai supported deletion, though... Aidan, the Spooky Rurouni 19:33, October 6, 2019 (EDT)
Sorry, I was expecting either "Support" or "Oppose" though. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is bad for me 22:38, October 6, 2019 (EDT)
So I believe that this page should be deleted and instead redirect to a page (but idk) japan 18:08, October 16, 2019 (EDT)

Oppose per reasons above. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Gamer Leave a message if needed 01:32, August 7, 2019 (EDT)

So this seems to be a pretty even discussion. I'd like to bump this so we can figure out if this truly should get deleted. I, for one, think this page should stay, but changed to only focus on its usages in Melee and Brawl, since in Smash 4 and Ultimate, it's obsolete. Aidan, the Rurouni 18:03, November 14, 2019 (EST)

Support I still believe that this information would be better suited on the main stage article, but I can readily accept the compromise of trimming the page to only talk about the Past Stages in Melee and the Melee Stages in Brawl. (Maybe a small blurb could exist as a description for the returning stages in Smash 4, Ultimate, and possible future games.) Smore (talk) 07:18, November 15, 2019 (EST)
Support only talking about Melee and Brawl, as those are the only games where past stages are given a distinction from new stages. 72.203.118.154 02:02, January 12, 2020 (EST)

I accept this as it's own article too, should we remove the tag? Lucina-is-better-than-marth (talk) 09:53, November 19, 2019 (EST)

Make it a disambiguation page There's no need for all of this information, but it also can't be an easy redirect. Thus, we should make this into a short disambiguation page, with links to the sub-sections of the stage pages for Melee, Brawl, and 4, plus a quick note that virtually all stages return in Ultimate. Happy to do this myself if we have consensus (old sysop me would have just done it here and now). Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 13:09, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

I now support Aidan's idea to only have this focus on its usage in Melee and Brawl. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Gamer (talk) 18:04, April 3, 2020 (EDT)
