Walkthrough
This is the first single player event match in the game, so as expected, it's pretty easy. No real strategy here, just weaken Bowser and Donkey Kong, and then finish them off with your high-knockback attacks. As I said, this event match is easy, which is no surprise since it's the first single-player event match in the game. But...
Reward Condition
If this is the first single-player event match and it's easy, then the reward condition is easy, right? WRONG. To get the reward, you need to beat the event match without taking any damage. You heard that right. You can't even get hit once. It doesn't help that Mario doesn't have that much knockback. You can use his up-B, but that will stun you for a few seconds, leaving you open to attacks. You can use his smashes, but melee attacks leave you more open to taking damage. To avoid taking damage, you have to use range attacks like his fireballs. However, those don't have much knockback. Okay, here's the strategy. When the event starts, use as much fireball attacks as possible before your enemies get too close to you. Then, retreat to an area that they're far from and repeat. If they get too close to you, just use your shield to avoid taking damage. However, attacks are pretty unpredictable, so it's hard to know when to shield yourself. They also won't last forever, so if you're trapped in the zone of the enemies' attacks, you need to be good at escaping. Shields won't protect you against Bowser's side-B, but if he does that attack, you can still free yourself. Basically, you have to also get good with shields if you want to have some chance at getting the reward. This requires a lot of planning and patience, and will take lots of time, but when the enemies are weak enough, use your higher knockback attacks like smashes and up-B to finish off the enemies. Just be careful to not get hit while doing so!
Trivia
- The music used in this event, Airship Theme (Super Mario Bros. 3), normally plays on Luigi's Mansion, rather than Mario Galaxy.
- This event seems to mimic the Trouble King events from Melee and Brawl. Trouble King from Melee and Two Trouble Kings from Brawl both feature Mario as a playable character (Luigi is played as in Trouble King 2 and Player 2 plays as Kirby in the co-op version of Two Trouble Kings), both events are the first in their respective games, and all three events feature Bowser as one of the enemies (the only one in both events from Melee).
