Deep Breathing (腹式呼吸, Abdominal Breathing) is the Wii Fit Trainer's down special move.

Overview

When used, a pink circle fills an outline over approximately 2 seconds. When this is finished, Wii Fit Trainer is healed for 2%, her walking speed is increased, and all her attacks are powered up for ~9.8 seconds (7 seconds for later uses, regardless if the first was successful). During this time, her damage received is multiplied by 0.9x, her overall damage output is multiplied by 1.2x, while her overall knockback increases by 1.3x, improving her damage-racking and KO potential. [1]

As the white ring touches the pink circle the player must hit the button again to activate the ability. This was demonstrated by the fact that both the male and female Wii Fit Trainers were shown using the move in the Super Smash Bros. Direct, with the male Trainer failing. Alternately, the player may keep the button held down, then release it at the right time.

Once used, Deep Breathing slowly recovers speed over time and replenishes completely if the Wii Fit Trainer gets knocked out. If the player uses the move again, it will take much longer, most likely to prevent the player from spamming the move to make the Trainer's attack power get higher and healing damage constantly; it should be noted that it is impossible to activate another Deep Breathing buff while one is already in effect due to this significantly increased recharge duration.

Customization

Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:

1. Deep Breathing 2. Volatile Breathing 3. Steady Breathing

Volatile Breathing
Steady Breathing
"Press the button at the right time to heal and boost your launching power." "A forbidden breathing method that causes an explosion. Doesn't heal or power you up." "If successful, you're briefly impossible to launch. Takes a while to use again, though."
  1. Deep Breathing: Default.
  2. Volatile Breathing: When performed correctly, creates an explosion around the Wii Fit Trainer that does 15% damage at close range, or 8% at long range. This variation does not heal or power up Wii Fit Trainer's stats. During the initial frames of the startup, the Wii Fit Trainer has super armor.
  3. Steady Breathing: When performed correctly, gives the Wii Fit Trainer super armor at the very beginning, then makes the Wii Fit Trainer take significantly less knockback for six seconds, one second less than Deep Breathing. Specifically, all knockback sustained is multiplied by 0.2x. Once the effect wears off, the move has a noticeably larger recharge time. It also has a bigger healing boost, healing 5% rather than 2%.

Origin

The Deep Breathing exercise in Wii Fit.

The deep breathing technique is a common one used in yoga to soothe and calm a performer down. The circles that appear reflect the circles used in Wii Fit's yoga exercises, where they served as a visual guide for inhaling and exhaling during the exercises.
