Ness, Jigglypuff, Ganondorf and Bowser Jr. are on the default roster for the Wii U version

How should this be presented in the character section where it bolds those who are unlockable?

Good question. Bolded italics perhaps? ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 19:11, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

I have an idea for a totally new system here. It's not updated for that split yet; I'm waiting for things to calm down a bit first. Toomai Glittershine   The Irrepressible 19:12, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

Until then, I'm going to add my idea. Feel free to change if a better idea comes though. ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 19:16, 23 October 2014 (EDT)
How about putting an asterisk by their name / page ling, then under the graph/chart put, "*These characters are playable in the starting roster in SM4SH Wii U", or something like that. 1blitzer1 (talk) 00:43, 5 November 2014 (EST)
I took care of that on the Starter characters page. Gpev96 (SHAZAM!) (talk) 09:04, 4 November 2014 (EST)

Pokémon Stadium 2

It looks like it appears at 14:42 in the Smash Direct. You guys might want too add it. http://youtu.be/j0BBGzfw0pQ?t=14m42s SunnyDust (talk) 20:17, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

Yoshi's Wooly World stage

There appears to be a Yoshi's Wooly World stage on the same stage selection screen that leaked Congo Jungle 64, next to Yoshi's Island. You guys might want to add that too.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.226.12.59 (talkcontribs) 22:49, October 23, 2014 (CST)

That stage is known already. Also, to sign, use four tildes (~~~~). Berrenta (talk) 01:07, 4 November 2014 (EST)

8 player stages indication

Is there any way that in the infobox for stages in the WiiU version that we could indicate whether or not it supports up to eight players? If we can put the type of crate maybe we should indicate that as well. Just a thought. Gpev96 (SHAZAM!) (talk) 09:17, 4 November 2014 (EST)

There is, actually, I'll get that up with the known stages when I get a chance. Laikue (talk | contribs) 15:20, 4 November 2014 (EST)

"Pre-trailer information" section

Since the 3ds version is out (and the Wii U version almost is), does the "pre-trailer information" section still need to be there? I've noticed that the pages for the previous three games don't have one… Whidog (talk) 13:37, 7 November 2014 (EST)

Ducking jab

I've noticed something strange in smash 4. If you hold diagonally down on the ground and attack, your character performs a jab. You have to be very precise, though; I think its within a single degree. Try holding forward, then slowly sliding the circle pad downward until you duck. Its difficult to maintain the correct angle, and impractical in a match (might be easy with a gc controller, though). I cant seem to cause a neutral aerial using the same method, but as I said, its extremely difficult to get the correct angle in the first place. Anyone know what causes this, and whether its worth noting anywhere on the wiki at all? FirstaLasto 22:12, 10 November 2014 (EST)

what your talking about is angling the forward tilt, it's been here since Melee nothing new. Thesupernintendokid (talk) 20:03, 18 November 2014 (EST)
Since when does an angled forward tilt produce a jab? FirstaLasto 20:13, 18 November 2014 (EST)
Tried this in the Wii U version, and its much easier due to the Wii controller support. Noticed it also works diagonally backwards (although this will still jab forwards). FirstaLasto 18:33, 22 November 2014 (EST)

I've seen and done that in the 3DS version multiple times. I don't really think it's anything special. Scr7 (talk · contribs) 18:40, 22 November 2014 (EST)

Left,Right,left,right,TRIP?!

I Found out if you go left and right quickly you can trip?Maybe you knew that --EnderNan 08:56, 7 December 2014 (EST)EnderNan

...you sure there wasn't anything in your way? Like, an attack that can trip, or an item that can trip? Because, as it states on the page, Sakurai removed random tripping altogether (specifically, the example you just mentioned).  BlueStreak 09:00, 10 December 2014 (EST)

Tripping also can happen if you are hit with a down "A" attack. (Which can be pretty funny to the opponent and annoying to the amused player) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Foxhound (talkcontribs) 13:34, 5 April 2015 (EDT)

The "Giant Fluff of Text"

I honestly don't care whether or not it's there, but seeing as how these two pages also have it, I think it's fair to say that it should either be all or nothing. Just my opinion.  Aidan the Aura Master 11:01, 4 February 2015 (EST)

I intend to similarly trim those pages if nobody can make a good case for why they should be this bulky. Miles (talk) 11:13, 4 February 2015 (EST)
I think the best way to do that (again, this is my opinion) is to reword a bunch of it so that it's not split into too many little sections...
("blah blah blah"
"different blah blah blah")
...but still have a majority of what it had said at first.  Aidan the Aura Master 11:17, 4 February 2015 (EST)
I guess my main thought is "What does that text tell somebody that ten seconds of looking at this page wouldn't?" I tried to trim down to the biggest and most important pieces. Miles (talk) 11:50, 4 February 2015 (EST)
A little summarization of it all couldn't hurt.  Aidan the Aura Master 11:53, 4 February 2015 (EST)
So how would you (concisely) summarize that whole wall of text? Miles (talk) 11:54, 4 February 2015 (EST)

(Reset indent) Well, let's see here. Let's take this as an example.

"The original announcement of the game revealed a number of playable characters. Since then, other characters were announced via Miiverse, Nintendo Directs, and other videos until the official release of the game. There are 50 character slots on the roster (52 counting each Mii Fighter as an individual character). Twelve of them need to be unlocked before they appear in the 3DS version, and 8 are unlockable in the Wii U version. Only one character, Mewtwo, is confirmed to appear as downloadable content. Seven characters from Brawl do not return. While Charizard returns, the Pokémon Trainer and his Pokémon do not return. The EarthBound universe drops its only other rep, Lucas. Wolf from Star Fox is also cut. The Ice Climbers and their universe get dropped, but the Polar Bear makes an appearance in the 3DS exclusive mode, Smash Run. The Metal Gear franchise gets dropped completely, with no representation at all in Smash 4. Three universes gain two newcomers each, being Mario, Fire Emblem, and Kid Icarus. The Pokémon universe brings Greninja as a newcomer, while also bringing back Mewtwo from Melee. Multiple new universes are also added, such as Wii Fit and Xenoblade. Finally, three universes previously represented with no playable characters gain their first characters, being Punch-Out!!, Animal Crossing, and Super Smash Bros.."

Granted, this would be somewhat lengthy, but it would work.  Aidan the Aura Master 12:21, 4 February 2015 (EST)

That's a bit of an improvement, definitely. It could work as is, although it may be worth considering trimming down the references to universes (e.g. the note about the Polar Bear). Miles (talk) 12:34, 4 February 2015 (EST)
If I were to do that, then it would imply that the universe has been dropped altogether (which it hasn't).  Aidan the Aura Master 12:35, 4 February 2015 (EST)
I guess what I was getting at was that...
"The EarthBound universe drops its only other rep, Lucas. Wolf from Star Fox is also cut. The Ice Climbers and their universe get dropped, but the Polar Bear makes an appearance in the 3DS exclusive mode, Smash Run."
...could be replaced by something more like:
"Some playable characters from Brawl are not playable in this iteration, including Lucas from the EarthBound series, Wolf from the Star Fox series, and the Ice Climbers from the Ice Climber series."
I feel like it's more cohesive and on-topic that way. Miles (talk) 12:47, 4 February 2015 (EST)
That could work. If I'm understanding our conversation completely, you're saying that the paragraph that I wrote could work as a replacement for the big wall of text that was previously there (including the edit that you made to said paragraph)?  Aidan the Aura Master 12:52, 4 February 2015 (EST)
Something close to it, yeah. It was the length and messiness of it that was a problem, not its existence as a whole. Miles (talk) 20:01, 5 February 2015 (EST)

Nerf to projectile camping?

So according to some character pages like Bowser and Ganondorf, projectile camping was nerfed. However, I can't seem to find it anywhere on the wiki. How were they nerfed? Shadow (talk) 01:21, 22 February 2015 (EST)

I've looked around the wiki too, and it doesn't really seem like a general physics change. The closest I can think of is that many projectiles, such as Falco's Blaster, were nerfed in speed and damage, and that infinite locks, such as his laser lock, were removed. b2jammer (talk) 13:19, 25 May 2015 (EDT)

Should We Change the Title?

Now that the games have been released, should we change the article's title to the official title of the games? using the title "Super Smash Bros. 4" is certainly shorter than "Super Smash Bros for WiiU/3DS", but at the same time, it's a little unprofessional. --Meowzers! (talk) 07:13, 24 February 2015 (EST)

New sections go at the bottom, and it has already been decided that it'd be better for everyone if we kept it as Smash 4. It's what the grand majority call it anyway. Besides, we have pages for the individual versions as well. Laikue (talk | contribs) 13:34, 24 February 2015 (EST)

New glitch

This is a glitch I found. I was being Wario playing against Rosalina on Garden of Hope (or whatever the Wii U Pikmin stage is called), and managed to chomp Rosalina while she was in the pot thingy, and when she came out she was small. I chomped her when she was small, and she was spinning right below Wario's mouth. She didn't go back to normal size until she got stuck in the pot again. What is this? Trainiax: Waluigi in Smash? I feel like this should be mentioned somewhere on the wiki, but I don't know where exactly. It's own page, maybe? —Preceding unsigned comment added by FirstaLasto (talkcontribs) 22:54, 1 April 2015 (EDT)

New glitch No# 2 discovered

It has been discovered that zero suit Samus from the Metroid series is now known to pose in a certain inappropriate manner. It has brought attention to many of those who used zero suit samus frequently. Mewtwo ,Lucas ,Wolf

Its been said that Mewtwo will enter into the ring of super smash bros. for 3ds and wii u for free IF you contain both versions of the game with the club Nintendo code. Registrations for Mewtwo's DLC ended on 3/31/2015. Download codes will be emailed to Nintendo club members on 4/15/2015. But you can buy Mewtwo separately for 3.99 in the eshop. For such a good character he is pretty cheap. (the price is agreeable). It has also been said that Lucas will join Super Smash bros. for 3ds and wii u. Lucas's information is still new so the only information I have is his appearance. The same goes with wolf. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Foxhound (talkcontribs) 13:05, 5 April 2015 (EDT)

Yeah, one question; who ever said that Wolf was coming back? They only said alternate costumes for Miis, Mewtwo and Lucas are being offered DLC at the moment. Or is that you think Wolf is coming back? Hylia's Eye (talk) 19:25, 7 April 2015 (EDT)
If people vote enough, Wolf will probably make it back. The Smash Brotha (talk) 09:25, 17 April 2015 (EDT)

Question

Why aren't we talking about updating late information about super smash bros. Brawl, In that fact. Why aren't we updating any ssb info on the wiki. Shouldn't we be doing that frequently —Preceding unsigned comment added by Foxhound (talkcontribs) 13:41, 5 April 2015 (EDT)

Shouldn't there be a DLC section because we are expecting more than Mewtwo and Lucas. Or make DLC characters in Italics? The Smash Brotha (talk) 09:28, 17 April 2015 (EDT)

Changes from Brawl

Would it be okay to remove the more minor changes from the list of differences, focusing more on the new features? Nyargleblargle (Talk) 13:04, 19 April 2015 (EDT)

  • Nyargleblargle, I think that there are so many differences, this section warrants its own page. Can someone create a page for Changes from Brawl to SSB4 then I can edit it. 108.178.162.66 12:45, 4 May 2015 (EDT)
I think a page for just that is absolutely unnecessary. (Also, you indent with a :, not a *.)  Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura  12:49, 4 May 2015 (EDT)

Unfitting Name?

Isn't the name Super Smash Bros. 4 a fan-given name? I'm pretty sure Nintendo never used that. Shouldn't the title be a little more official and proper? I have an urge to move this to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, but I know this is a pretty important page, so I would like to ask why it is named such. --Andymii (talk) 12:38, 1 November 2015 (EST)

First, SmashWiki is not official. Second, it's much easier to type out this way. Finally, what would we move the character pages to? Nyargleblargle Let's go Mets! (Talk · Contribs) 14:18, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Of course this isn't an official website; I was just suggesting that we use official names. The fact that it is easier to type out is a pretty weak excuse; it's just a few characters extra, and according to the exact same page you referred to, SmashWiki covers the canon Smash series, not fanon or invented additions. --Andymii (talk) 14:23, 1 November 2015 (EST)

The same page states that unofficial names can be used, but ONLY if they are very popular (Ukemi/tech) (Side smash/forward smash) (Strong attack/tilts) (Weak attack/(Neutral attack/jab)) etc.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 14:24, 1 November 2015 (EST)
...It's not fanon though. The name you propose would cause another subpage issue as well, as it will treat Wii U as a subpage of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. Finally, I agree with NB, a lot of unnecessary work for a non-existent problem. Serpent   King 14:26, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Eh... okay, I guess the principles are slightly different here than MarioWiki. All the other NIWA wikis use the full name, but if the principle here has always been popular fan-name over officially used name, then fine. I still think that's a little strange, though.

Can someone explain the reasoning behind this? --Andymii (talk) 14:31, 1 November 2015 (EST)

In this particular example, I think it's because this wiki is highly influenced by the tourney scene. The scene collectively calls the game "Smash 4" so so do we. Serpent   King 14:37, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Here's the issue, though: tourneys are often done by fans. The official name is made by Nintendo, and thus canon. By keeping a non-canon name, it seems to suggest that a tourney's fan-made name is more valued here than the actual official content of Smash itself. --Andymii (talk) 14:43, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Technically, there isn't consistent official formatting as to the name for the two games together; look at the official website and the Nintendo Directs which have featured the games, and you'll see a number of variant spellings. Also, it's worth noting that the official shorthand in Japanese for the two versions is "スマブラ for", with "for" being used as the game suffix equivalently to "DX" (Melee) and "X" (Brawl). We're using a comparable English shorthand for this page, and the formal titles for the two versions themselves. Miles (talk) 14:44, 1 November 2015 (EST)

However, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U is the most common name in English, seen on most logos. There's a rule on MarioWiki that encourages American names over European/Japanese ones. Doesn't that carry over to here? (Sorry, I'm a newb on this site) --Andymii (talk) 14:48, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Not at all. We are not MarioWiki. Serpent   King 14:50, 1 November 2015 (EST)
Also, I think a lot of the difference is that on MarioWiki, you guys have many, many, MANY different games related to the portly plumber cash cow, and thus, need to be more accurate and official with the names. Here, though, we focus only on 4 games, removing this need. Serpent   King 14:52, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Actually, that's a pretty good point. Seeing these arguments, I guess SSB4 is an acceptable name (but only for this website). Thank you! --Andymii (talk) 14:57, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Just a quick side note: Super Smash Bros 4 is actually used commonly in other websites as well.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 15:00, 1 November 2015 (EST)
Other unofficial websites and fan names isn't reliable for any wiki in general and we shouldn't use SSB4 in this wiki also.207.233.90.1 18:36, 17 November 2015 (EST)
This debate has already been settled. SSB4 is the most reliable and recognized name among the community. Disaster Flare (talk) 18:40, 17 November 2015 (EST)
As stated before, we are heavily influenced by the tourney scene who calls the game (like the rest of the world, mind you) Smash 4. Serpent   King 18:40, 17 November 2015 (EST)
