The Simpsons trivia

Honestly, I think that information would be more suited for a page about the Smash series in popular culture like Zelda cameos. Magiciandude (talk) 02:01, 16 September 2012 (EDT)

The trivia is about this specific game though, and I don't think there's enough material to create an article devoted to references outside the series. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 03:08, 16 September 2012 (EDT)
I'm not even a member of this wiki and I still realize that this belongs on a Simpsons wiki, at best. By allowing this, if Jay Leno mentions the game in a monologue, that deserves a record in the Trivia section. Seems... wrong, doesn't it? --76.6.209.146 05:14, 16 September 2012 (EDT)
The trivia specifically refers to this game, how is that not relevant? Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 05:22, 16 September 2012 (EDT)

Are we sure the trivia is real? I watched the episode online and didn't see the reference. The Simpsons Wiki didn't have it (and they have a page devoted to the episode's references), nor did a straight Google search yield results. So unless somebody sees what I seem to be missing, I suggest we take it down. JamesHeart123 06:16, 16 September 2012 (EDT)

I got the information from Drakon64, you might want to ask him. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 07:22, 16 September 2012 (EDT)
Didn't think I would be back but the links to Wikisimpsons drew me back here, and to find this discussion. The info is false, I have just re-watched the scene to find nothing. We have had several other people watch the scene to find nothing about a SSB parody game. Seems fake to me. Solar Dragon (Talk Contribs.) 17:29, 16 September 2012 (EDT)

Released on which platforms?

I'm wondering if it's going to release for Wii too. It probably will, because some people would want to play the game, although they don't have a 3DS or a WiiU.Sandvich9 (talk) 16:46, 28 January 2013 (EST)

Except it won't, because the game is designed to run in 60fps with a strong online service on the Wii U, while the 3DS version has different dimensions, slightly different graphics, and big games like Super Smash Bros. are used to make those people buy the superior systems to what they currently own. Development has already begun on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Sakurai probably have told us if they were making it for Wii. So get yourself down to the store and get a Wii U, Nintendo won't satisfy you if you don't. Heck, by the time SSB4 comes out, the Wii will be super-out-of-date. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 17:14, 28 January 2013 (EST)
I'm sorry. I don't need a WiiU because I have a 3DS.Sandvich9 (talk) 17:20, 28 January 2013 (EST)
Eh, I wouldn't have that attitude, the console version is pretty much assured to be superior to the 3DS version. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 17:40, 28 January 2013 (EST)

Seconding Cardinal on this one. Better to have the admins filtering the content onto this page and potentially others that may be created. It's not like we won't be around. We can probably lower the protection to auto-confirmed a bit after E3. Miles (talk) 16:52, 4 June 2013 (EDT)
I hate restrictions on editors like this, but I, reluctantly, agree that the page should be fully protected during the E3 period, but should be downgraded to semi-protected immediately afterward. DoctorPain99 18:08, 4 June 2013 (EDT)
Would have to agree with DP99 and Ac2k. This page can be targeted with vandalism and nonsense when E3 comes around. You can change it to semi-protection after E3. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Happy 18:15, 4 June 2013 (EDT)

Punch-Out Stage?

I'm thinking the new "Unknown stadium" stage is actually a Punch-Out stage based off the 2009 installment in the same franchise, take a look- [9] [10] Only difference in the mat is that the central logo is now the Smash logo. So what do you guys think? Could this be a subtle hint to Little Mac's appearance in this installment? --Lasifer (talk) 22:41, 11 June 2013 (EDT)

The color of the mat and the colors on the ropes as well as the color placement are exactly the same, Logo in the center aside, I think it's likely for Little Mac to seal a spot. --Lasifer (talk) 01:10, 12 June 2013 (EDT)

Stage excluvises

It isn't mentioned in the article that Sakurai said in the video the stage differences will be based on the console and handheld games for the Wii U and 3DS respecitvely. Magiciandude (talk) 00:10, 12 June 2013 (EDT)

Game name

Isn't the name of the game(s) officially Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS? - Ceci n’est pas un Smiddle. 04:03, 12 June 2013 (EDT)

Yeah, the games are not "untitled." On Nintendo's E3 site, "X"'s name is labeled to be tentative, but Super Smash Bros. is not. And in the developer direct, Sakurai specifically states that the handheld version is called "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS" and that the home console version is called "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U." There is absolutely no indication whatsoever that those are anything but the games' official titles.GreenMamba (talk) 13:09, 12 June 2013 (EDT)
I find myself a bit disappointed with those names, but that's how it is. Although, if the games are widely referred to as simply SSB4 by the smashing community, this could be kept as its title. - Ceci n’est pas un Smiddle. 16:36, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
Elsewhere on Nintendo's E3 site, the versions are simply referred to as "Super Smash Bros." Sounds like placeholder names to me, though we can't be sure for the time being. Miles (talk) 16:43, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
These are the final names. Sakurai has confirmed it to IGN. Magiciandude (talk) 21:18, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
SSB4 refers to both for now, regardless of official name. MegaTron1XDDecepticon.png 21:34, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
Conjecture titles should never be in place of official titles. Wikipedia has it listed as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and this article should follow suit as well. Unless you want it to call it Super Smash Bros. (2014 game). But I digress, we should be using the official name by Nintendo, not fan names. Magiciandude (talk) 21:49, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
SmashWiki is not official
Besides that, Smash 4 is the common name, and much easier (and simpler) to use than the needlessly long Wikipedia title. Eventually the WiiU and 3DS games will get their own article (where they can go by their official titles), where this will then be a disambiguation page for them. For now though, this title is fine for an article that refers to both games. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 22:36, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
Oh in that case, then I completely agree. Magiciandude (talk) 23:27, 13 June 2013 (EDT)

Even though SSB4 is the common name and therefore worthy of the title, there should be an unofficial lingo marker on the page, as there are no official sources referring to the game as "Super Smash Bros. 4" Mr. AnonAnon.pngtalk 14:04, 14 June 2013 (EDT)

Protection

I propose, now that the biggest introductory infodump at E3 is over, that we do two things regarding protection:

  1. Reduce this article's protection to autoconfirmed, and
  2. Increase the "Character (SSB4)" pages' protection to autoconfirmed.

Thoughts? Miles (talk) 01:08, 13 June 2013 (EDT)

I'm in support of this. The character pages are attracting too much speculation, and the users can now be trusted enough to edit this article without adding speculation and crap of the ilk. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 01:43, 13 June 2013 (EDT)

Hello all. Anyway while watching the trailers for Wii Fit Trainer and Megaman, i noticed how in the end it shows a fusion of the smash bros logos and I was trying to render those for the wiki. But I had no luck, they didn't come out good at all. One is with a black background and you can see the white fade around the text easier, the other is with a white background, with the text for 3DS and WiiU being black and easier to see, like the current logos on the site. I was thinking of working with both to make just one, for the sake of the wiki article. But nothing I did seemed to work out all that well. Thought I'd post these here and see if one of you guys could take a crack at it.

Possible new Assist Trophy

I was looking at the Super smash bros 4 site and I say this: Gyroid stage.jpg Is it possible that Gyroid might be a New Assist Trophy (If there is going to be Assist Trophies again), or is it just a stage element? Anyone got any idea what special moves the Gyroid will do? Gamefan759 (talk) 23:46, 26 June 2013 (EDT)

The fact that it is behind a fence makes it quite likely this Gyroid is simply a background character, as are the other Animal Crossing series characters seen in previous SSB4 screenshots. Miles (talk) 00:13, 27 June 2013 (EDT)

Console-exclusive characters

I just re-watched the Nintendo Developer Direct for Smash 4 (this one) and was focused on this one sentence: "The total number of characters will be the same for [the Wii U].". This seems as though there will be console-exclusive characters, like Olimar (who will likely be Wii U exclusive, as Sakurai previously stated that it is hard to code two people-like the Ice Climbers-for the 3DS). 99.241.84.54 06:05, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

Ixbran (talk) 06:08, 12 July 2013 (EDT)
Ever heard of going back on a statement? RickTommy 06:57, 12 July 2013 (EDT)
I seriously doubt Sakurai would do that to his fanbase after already saying it wouldn't happen. It would really alienate A LOT of fans if he did that, and he knows that, therefor wont do it. why are you people so eager to look for the bad in him, and ignore the good? From what I know, Sakurai has never been one to ever go back on his word, so lets just expect he will keep to his word, and not make a pointless argument over this you guys.
Ixbran (talk) 07:15, 12 July 2013 (EDT)
There isn't video (as far as I know) of Sakurai saying that the characters will be the same. I think it might be possible that the author of the article misunderstood Sakurai. ChuckNorris24.png 08:08, 12 July 2013 (EDT)
That's because it's not in video form, it was in an interview. Probably IGN's. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 08:14, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

This discussion has been veering off into irrelevancy. Sakurai has stated characters will be the same (and subsequently said characters may get cut because of space issues on the 3DS, which wouldn't be an issue at all on the Wii U, so he's clearly intent at the moment on having the same cast between games). Whether he's goes back on it or not is not relevant, and is purely speculative. We're going to state in the article what he said, as those are the facts at this time, and if he does end up going back on it, then there's more information for the article in the future.

So yeah, don't derail about what Sakurai might or might not do about something he said. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 08:15, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

What most likely happened are the combined facts that they've revealed Olimar to promote Pikmin 3 on Wii U, and the Wii U is the primary console they'll be focusing on due to the difficulty of programming an HD next-gen game. They finished programming Olimar into the Wii U game first, and to coincide with Pikmin 3, released his info first. --HavocReaper48 13:50, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

A Lot of Characters Wanted

There's a bunch of characters I want for SSB4. Pokémon Trainer is and will always be someone I want for the game. Mewtwo, with its Final Smash as Psystrike, would help too, and it could change into its new form with that move. Bowser Jr. is someone I want as a newcomer. I'd like Mr. Game & Watch to return, but really only as an unlockabe novelty, like all other games. I want a Meta Knight that isn't broken in this game. I'd also want Wolf to return, too.
