The Bridge of Eldin is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl based on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Origin

Link, riding Epona, battles King Bulblin on the Bridge of Eldin, as seen in Twilight Princess.

The Bridge of Eldin appears in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and it is in the Eldin Province. It connects the northern part of the Eldin Province to the large field in the southern part. The bridge is situated over a large canyon. In Twilight Princess this bridge was temporarily unusable as a large section of it had been teleported away by Shadow Beasts. The destroyed section of the bridge was teleported to the Gerudo Mesa in the Gerudo Desert. Later in the game, Midna and Link recover and teleport the section back after it becomes necessary to use the bridge. In this stage, the middle section of the Bridge of Eldin isn't teleported away, but this stage does retain how the section of the bridge is teleported back via Twilight Portal. The overall design and surroundings of the bridge look very similar to how they looked in Twilight Princess; however, the bridge has been greatly scaled down.

In Twilight Princess, King Bulbin is a mini-boss who duels Link across the Bridge of Eldin (as well as a few other locations). When King Bulbin gets damaged he leans back from getting hit. When Link defeats him, he falls into the river below. In this stage King Bulbin can be attacked, but he does not fall into the river. He does retain how he leans back from getting hit. Fanfare blares out from a horn when King Bulblin is about to charge across the stage. The sound matches the one made by King Bulblin at two points in Twilight Princess: first to call in reinforcements for the attack on Ordon, and later to alert the Bulblin Riders for the horseback battle against Link.

In The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask there is an item called a Powder Keg. The Powder Keg is a very powerful bomb that is used to destroy large rocks that block the path. The bomb that King Bulbin uses in this stage is considered by some to be similar to the Powder Keg.

In the Super Smash Bros. series

Bridge of Eldin appears as a default stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Bridge of Eldin is a totally flat stage. King Bulblin occasionally interferes with the battle by throwing bombs that destroy the center of the bridge. Characters can take damage from the exploding bombs, touching King Bulblin which has low knockback and can also fall into the abyss underneath the bridge. After a short amount of time, a twilight portal appears and drops the missing section back onto the bridge.

If King Bulblin is hit a sufficient number of times before he gets to the middle of the bridge, he won't drop a bomb.

The stage is almost always banned in competitive settings because it is possible to walk off into the blast line, which allows for camping and easy K.Os, especially since characters like King Dedede can chain grab opponents over the edge of the blast line with little difficulty. In addition, when the center of the stage is destroyed, players - especially those with great recoveries - can camp by moving from one end to the other.

Glitches

The Bridge of Eldin is known for various glitches involving using Final Smashes in the destroyed bridge area as the bridge reforms. One such minor glitch is if a character uses a Final Smash that suspends them in midair in this area while the bridge reforms around them, such as Donkey Kong's Konga Beat, they'll be able to move while airborne inside the bridge until they jump out of the bridge or fall through the bottom. The more notable glitches on this stage are the Puff Up Glitch, Diffusion Beam Glitch, and Golden Glitch.

Trivia

  • Occasionally, a lone Bulblin will run on to the stage, accompanying King Bulblin. He is usually knocked away from the bomb on the bridge, yet he can be attacked to halt his movement. He deals no damage to the player. If the Bulblin is damaged enough, it'll fall off of the bridge. If it is not hit by the bomb's explosion, it will simply walk off the bridge once it reaches the gap.
  • In the background is visible the Twilight Princess version of the Hyrule Castle, which appeared as a playable stage in SSB. Note that the SSB's version of Hyrule Castle is the Ocarina of Time version of the castle.
