Sonix is a smasher from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic who mains Sonic in both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was initially known as a Wi-Fi Warrior, gaining notoriety during the COVID-19 pandemic where he was considered one of the best players online. Following the return to offline competitive play, Sonix saw a meteoric rise to the top level, solidifying himself as the best Sonic player of all-time, the best player in North America since 2024, and one of the best in the world since 2023. He is currently ranked 1st on the Wi-Fi Warrior Rank v8, 0 on the Dominican Republic Power Rankings, 2nd on the LumiRank 2023 North America, and 3rd on the LumiRank 2024.1.
In Smash 4, he is ranked 1st on the Dominican Republic Smash 4 Power Rankings and has defeated Kuma, as well as Cosmos, SDX, Twi, and IcyMist in online tournaments.
Sonix plays Sonic in a very optimal way, using the character’s speed and movement to make unpredictable and tricky approaches, making it hard for his opponent to punish him. Sonix also likes using Sonic’s normals for pressure and playing neutral. He is also willing to take his opponents to time when he has the stock lead or percentage lead.
However, Sonix tends to struggle when he doesn’t have the lead and also becomes impatient to take a stock and reset neutral. This results in him losing games and dropping sets. He also would frequently try to play aggressively when he's down a stock, allowing other players to camp him out too.
Sonix's willingness to camp out his opponents in tournament has spawned a number of copypastas, the most well-known being "UP A STOCK? YOU KNOW THE VIBES 🏕️🆙".[1]
Sonix is the namesake of Coney's Sonix% speedruns, where he attempts to complete a 16-star speedrun of Super Mario 64 before Sonix finishes a tournament set.
Sonix has won the most iterations of Hungrybox's online Coinbox tournament series.
Sonix often uses his girlfriend Angie's name as a gamertag in sets.
After losing to a character, Sonix is known to Tweet out requests to practice playing against the character, often in the style of "Any [character] players wanna play? As long as you can ___ and ___ you’re good"
Ever since Luminosity Makes BIG Moves 2024, Sonix has continuously placed 2nd at major tournaments. This led many fans to joke that he's suffering from a "2nd place curse", and whether he overcomes said curse or not has become a common discussion point when it comes to majors he attends.
He has also not placed any lower than 2nd place at any event he has attended since Super Smash Con 2023, having achieved a streak of making it into grands at offline majors 10 times in a row, one of the longest Grand Finals streaks alongside MkLeo's streak from MomoCon 2019 to Smash World Tour 2021 Championships.
