Sm template

Do you think you could add something that allows a character icon (s) to be displayed in the template, along with a game, like the Flag? Awesome Cardinal 2000 19:04, 25 May 2013 (EDT)

Not a bad idea. I'll see if I can get around to it once I reparadigm the head icon names to make sense. Toomai Glittershine   The Metroid 23:12, 25 May 2013 (EDT)

Marth (SSBM)/Up tilt

Hello and thanks for your corrections! I wonder why you exchanged the »’« for a »'«, though. As far as I know, the former is typographically correct, though seldom used on the internet because standard keyboard layouts don’t use it directly. Also I’ve been wondering why Melee’s and Brawl’s special attacks share the same pages—wouldn’t it be wiser to separate them, especially now with the moveset subpages? Kadano (talk) 20:05, 28 May 2013 (EDT)

While it's technically more correct, no one ever uses ’ so it looks funny compared ot the rest of the wiki.
The plan is to keep the special attack pages as they are, being general descriptions of the moves and their origins, and then supplement them with individual pages for each game of them. Toomai Glittershine   The Breegull 20:08, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
You have a point; even Opera's spell checker doesn't judge ’ as correct. Sigh.
So in the end, we will have three pages for each special move—Melee, Brawl, and both combined? Or will the general pages get deleted once the individual ones are complete? Kadano (talk) 20:21, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
Well four: a general one plus the technical data for each iteration in all three games. Toomai Glittershine   The Wacko 20:23, 28 May 2013 (EDT)

Reverse Dolphin Slash

I consulted with Marth mains, PewPewU and Tai and yes the sweetspot is located on Marth's body. Due to the movement of the attack this hitbox is "dragged" across an area behind him as well as to some parts of Marth's legs. I've consulted members of the Project M Back Room and they confirm this is the case. Here's a gif. Upload it to Gif Explode and look at frames 5, 6, and 7. Those red hitboxes originating from the body (not the sword) is the sweetspot I'm describing.--BrianDon't try me!  12:44, 30 May 2013 (EDT)

...the non-frame 5 body hitbox? The one that's not even Slash, does the least damage of all the hitboxes of the move, and has a third the base knockback as the actual sweetspot? Toomai Glittershine   The Sphere 14:43, 30 May 2013 (EDT)
I was told the body hitbox remains strong for 3 frames starting from frame 5. I can't see the actual percents or knockback values from the gif.--BrianDon't try me!  14:47, 30 May 2013 (EDT)
Also from actual experience, the frontal sword hitboxes seem weaker than the hitbox I land when I use the reverse dolphin slash (presumably the body hitbox since Marth's back is turned against the opponent). Here's a clip showing the move used in actual combat if you have never seen it. --BrianDon't try me!  17:19, 30 May 2013 (EDT)
Please don’t spread word about stuff you’ve heard somewhere but don’t actually understand. This is exactly why ssbwiki has its bad reputation. If you want to find out the facts, start using debug mode, Master Hand tool or SSBM Hitboxes (NTSC 1.0).xlsx.
Dolphin Slash has three hitboxes¹. They are strong only on frame 5 (the first frame they are active). From frame 6 on, they have low damage and knockback.
Two of these three hitboxes are on Marth’s sword (bone 76), the hitbox at the tip is the sweetspot that deals 13%. Both the inner sword hitbox and the butt hitbox (bone 4) deal only 10% on frame 5.
Direction reversal takes place after frame 5. Thus, reversing it can’t possibly increase it’s strength. It’s like saying l-canceling aerials makes them stronger.
¹Actually, it’s six divided into two groups of three with the first three being exchanged for the second three at frame 6. Because their alignment is identical, I rather see it as the hitbox getting weaker than them being replaced, although strictly speaking this isn’t the case. Kadano (talk) 16:48, 30 May 2013 (EDT)
Post this on the Marth Forums then. We've had it wrong for 6 years. At the very least, why does spacing for a reverse dolphin slash make landing the sweetspot easier?--BrianDon't try me!  16:53, 30 May 2013 (EDT)
I just did. It doesn’t, that’s a misconception. Maybe it’s because reversing usually prevents you from hitting with the weak frame 6+ hitboxes so it feels like either sweetspotting or whiffing. Kadano (talk) 17:07, 30 May 2013 (EDT)
I see I will alert the Marths who don't visit SWFs that much now. Thanks. I'll update the Marth page accordingly.--BrianDon't try me!  17:19, 30 May 2013 (EDT)

Bot image fix

Could you make the bot change all the File:PokemonTrainerHeadSSBB.png to File:PokémonTrainerHeadSSBB.png? Because these files seem to be clogging up Category:Pages with broken file links. Thanks in advance. Awesome Cardinal 2000 20:38, 7 June 2013 (EDT)

Yeah there are bugs with image redirects. I dunno, might not be worth it since no one likes using é, and do you guys really use C:Pwbfl much anyway since Special:WantedPages is probably betterish? XL 21:08, 7 June 2013 (EDT)

Dark Motif

Do you happen to know how to manipulate the monobook.css to make SmashWiki have a black motif? Every website I generally have open on a tab is black except for SmashWiki, I would rather save my eyes from pain. Toast  ltimatum  18:21, 12 June 2013 (EDT)

I have some ideas but would have to test them. Let me mess around for a bit. Toomai Glittershine   The SMASH-GINEER 18:25, 12 June 2013 (EDT)
Well I have the basic stuff down, but you'll be having a dark background with light text and light infoboxes (with light text in them). Since you probably don't want that I'll do some extra thinking. Toomai Glittershine   The Breegull 00:49, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
That sounds fine to me, all of these black websites I use also have white text, and it's probably easier to read than any dark style you may be planning. Toast  ltimatum  08:21, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
Well if all you want is a band-aid solution, put this in your stylesheet:
body {
  background:#000000;
}
div#content {
  background:#1f1f1f;
  color:#ffffff;
}
h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {
  color:#ffffff;
}
Expect things like captions, tables, and templates to be unreadable. Toomai Glittershine   The Victorious 09:50, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
Ah, now I understand better. I'll still try this though. Toast  ltimatum  09:53, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
In the unlikely event that you care, I put this into my monobook...
div#content {
  background:#1f1f1f;
  color:#808080;
}
...and it turned my wiki font colour silver, so now I can see everything properly, captions included. Toast  ltimatum  17:01, 22 August 2013 (EDT)

HQ Brawl Character images

found this site called Spriters resource, and in the brawl section of the website it has renders and images pulled right out of the game. I figure you guys would want to have access to the backgroundless .png version of the brawl character renders for the wiki, instead of the current .jpg format ones you currently have. If you want I could start uploading images after getting them ready for the site. Ixbran (talk) 22:51, 17 June 2013 (EDT)

Yes I know of those images (I have the files and can find specific images if I look for them). I'm not sure whether we need to be replacing what we have though, since some of them appear to be segmented and need arbitrary rotation to be put together (which generally tends to look bad) (assuming I'm looking at the right sheet), and while I agree that .pngs are superiour in general for this sort of thing, there's something about keeping the official art's background that tells me it's a better choice. Feel free to disagree but I personally don't think you should start a wholesale changeover without more public discussion elsewhere.
Also, please do not add a <br> before your signature. Toomai Glittershine   The Incomperable 00:45, 18 June 2013 (EDT)
I just figure that having high quality .png images would be better than having .jpg ones. they look a lot nicer and without the backgrounds, and would allow them to blend with the backgrounds of the templates. I mean if you look at some of the current brawl images, characters are off center. like Zero Suit samus's brawl pic. shes like to the far left of the image, with the gradient background taking up more of the image than the actual render it self, and i cant help but feel that's kinda tacky looking. But if we used the .png renders instead, it would give the wiki a more professional appearance.

Also, regarding the <br> thing with my signatures, its something I always do when signing my posts. Been doing it back since i first started editing wikis, back in 2008. I dont see why it would be such a big deal though, its how i personalize my signatures.

Razer wants his name off of his wiki. I removed Trela's name because it seems like a bad move to just put personal information up like that when they might not want it up there.

The last edit was just because it seemed weird to mention a single loss from 2011 like that for someone with a record like Trela's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Steak Finger (talkcontribs) 20:53, 30 June 2013 (EDT)

Okay that's acceptable; you can remove personal information when there's documentation that the subject doesn't want it listed. For the Trela thing, it would have been better to remove the sentence entirely and leave an explanatory edit summary, rather than replace it with something somewhat irrelevant. Melee cast image map

Hey I created an image map using the Melee cast picture that you can see here, my question is can I use it and if so where can I use it? Plus, if you you allow me to use it, I will create one for SSB64 and Brawl. Thank you ----- Conanshinichi (talk) 10:12, 11 July 2013 (EDT)

Hmmmm. I had been thinking about doing something of this nature with the wiki's existing icons in a table as opposed to the character selection screen as an image, because the CSS lacks some characters. Maybe you should bring up the idea on the talk page of one of the templates you would be doing this with. Toomai Glittershine   The Zesty 17:19, 11 July 2013 (EDT)
Well the link that I used for the icon for Zelda in this Character Selection Screen is Zelda/Sheik (disambiguation), though I don't think it'd work with Samus in Brawl unless if we create a Samus/Zero Suit Samus (disambiguation)page. It would definitely work for SSB64, however. Oh and which existing icons are you talking about? I don't mind creating an image map for them and I'd be more than happy to help :)

Brawl cast image map

So after making the Melee cast image map thingy, I decided to make the 64 and the Brawl ones. The 64 one went fine but the Brawl when making the brawl one, I had to also put Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Squirtle Ivysaur and Charizard. My question is, should I place ZSS and 3 Pokémon below the other characters or to the left or right? Here are the 3 options: [1] ----- Conanshinichi   02:45, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

Hitbox galleries

Hey, I noticed that there are hitbox galleries of some characters in Brawl. Could I make some Melee hitbox galleries using the stuff found here[2]? There's an example of one in my sandbox. Scr7  11:50, 11 July 2013 (EDT)

I don't see why not. Toomai Glittershine   The Zesty 17:19, 11 July 2013 (EDT)
When I include the link to a Fox hitbox image ([3]), it just includes the link and not the image itself. It seems to happen with every link from Photoshop (even though the Falco ones worked perfectly fine). Why is this? Scr7  02:10, 13 July 2013 (EDT)

Since this wiki is currently doing moveset subpages explaining moves one by one like their frame duration among other things, should pages that links to pages showing only the moves hitboxes be deleted?Boo Buddy (talk) 12:35, 21 July 2013 (EDT)

Why should the hitbox subpages be deleted? There's no good reason to. Scr7  12:40, 21 July 2013 (EDT)
Well the way I see it, once all the moveset subpages are done, there's not too much purpose to having a page for the hitbox images only. Autocancel

Just saying. In Melee Ganondorf's fair can be autocanceled before frame 6 and after 34, while DK's can't. Scr7  17:28, 24 July 2013 (EDT)

More Frame Data

Can you compare the hitboxes of Peach's Nair, bair, up air, and forward air between Melee and Brawl. I claim they are stronger in Melee, whereas OT claims they are the same. Also can you compare the hitboxes of dair too. To my knowledge, dair is weaker and pulls opponents up in Melee, optimal for linking into nair, fair, bair, or up air like this. In brawl I think dair is stronger and now sends opponents down, making the combo I linked above impossible, or at least hard to do as a follow up.--BrianDon't try me!  14:35, 25 July 2013 (EDT)

Correction, according to hitbox data on the wiki, dair still sends people up, but still I think it's too strong to get a true follow up like Armada did to SS. Confirm or Deny.--BrianDon't try me!  18:08, 25 July 2013 (EDT)

Hey I have three questions (hence the headline), firstly I noticed that we don't really have a section for the staff of the games, should I create one? Secondly, the Melee debug menu barely has any information, should I add information on what each option does? If this takes a lot of work, I'll create a subpage in my userspace then move the information once it is complete. Finally, you know the image: File:MeleeStarters.jpg, can I take a 640x480 picture of it? cause the picture is too small. Thank you very much. ==--- Conanshinichi 11:59, 17 August 2013 (EDT)

We could probably do with a list of staff in the credits article; I don't know whether we'd need a seperate page for it.
Go ahead and add debug menu information any way you want, just don't make tons of tiny edits in succession.
You can always replace low-quality screenshots with max-natural-quality ones, though in this case you want to make a new one instead of uploading over the old one because you can't upload a .png on top of something that's currently a .jpg. Seems that Conny has uploaded it before I have without me noticing. Sorry for that, but I didn't know he already uplodaded it. :S

About the debug menu, is it ok if I make tiny edits in my userspace? then putting the complete thing in the article?

MovesetSubpage

This isn't working for me. If I type {{Meta Knight|SSBB|up special}} it just says Template:Meta Knight. Am I doing something wrong? Scr7  =D 17:35, 21 August 2013 (EDT)

Yeah I typo'd the description, fixing it now. Toomai Glittershine   The Zesty 17:36, 21 August 2013 (EDT)
I'd propose moving the name to "MS" instead, because the way it is now isn't much shorter. Awesome Cardinal 2000 19:54, 21 August 2013 (EDT)
That could be a redirect, or maybe "mv-sub" so it's more clear. Toomai Glittershine   The Pan-Galactic 19:56, 21 August 2013 (EDT)

Contributions tab

Do you think you could provide a tab linking to a user's contributions on their userpages and talk pages, as well as a link to their edit count on the contribs page? Awesome Cardinal 2000 14:33, 22 August 2013 (EDT)

First of all, you're asking the wrong person. Second of all, I highly doubt it. Thirdly, under Toolbox on the sidebar, you can easily check a user's contributions from their user page. It's under "User Contributions." DoctorPain99 14:43, 22 August 2013 (EDT)
I didn't know that, thanks Awesome Cardinal 2000 14:49, 22 August 2013 (EDT)

More more Frame Data

The DACUS is still in Project M and even though I despise the game it came from, I am intrigued by how it technically works. Based on the PM Frame Data I have, it seems the DACUS distance is based on traction and speed of initial dash animation and the speed of the dash attack. I've also noticed characters with a frame 3 or lower jump squat animation gain no distance from the DACUS. Can you confirm or deny my findings and perhaps elaborate more on the technical data. I would like to add this to the DACUS page.--BrianDon't try me!  21:32, 22 August 2013 (EDT)

Yeah, the momentum applied by a DACUS is based on how fast the character is both moving and animating on the frame you initiate it, and traction takes over from there. Not sure why a jumpsquat time of 3 is a cutoff for feasibility, though it does matter: you can only input an up smash during dash attack for the first [jumpsquat] frames of the dash attack (something really weird to set it to, considering you can't jump out of dash attack). Hi

Hello, I recorded two animated screenshots, could you help me find how can i out them next to each other aligned at the right for example?-- egadardery (edits) 12:33, 25 August 2013 (EDT)

I did a similar thing in the "Character names" section of this page; try coping the code from that. Toomai Glittershine   The Indescribable 12:37, 25 August 2013 (EDT)
You can also find an example here. Scr7  =D 12:38, 25 August 2013 (EDT)

Smash arena

Hi! I noticed that the smash arena suggestions were closed, but there were no suggestions on the page. Why is that? 50.136.44.6 08:38, 26 August 2013 (EDT)

Suggestions are currently closed because the queue is full. Scr7  =D 08:43, 26 August 2013 (EDT)
We have enough fights lined up to last us a few months. Once we get close to running out, we'll open suggestions again. Toomai Glittershine   The Zesty 17:13, 26 August 2013 (EDT)

DDoS

Have you heard the recent news? Smashboards, AiB and the Project M site are targets of a DDoS attack. This is urgent. This wiki could be a future target.--BrianDon't try me!  14:32, 27 August 2013 (EDT)
