Corrin was available as a downloadable fighter in the previous version of Super Smash Bros. This fighter uses all kinds of attacks, like Torrential Roar and Dragon Fang Shot. Players can choose male or female versions!

Corrin (カムイ, Kamui) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was officially confirmed on June 12th, 2018. Corrin is classified as fighter #62.

As in Smash 4, both the male and female versions of Corrin are playable, and the English voicework from the same game done by Cam Clarke and Marcella Lentz-Pope have been repurposed for Ultimate.

How to unlock

Complete one of the following:

  • Play VS. matches, with Corrin being the 41st character to be unlocked.
  • Clear Classic Mode with Kirby or any character in his unlock tree, being the sixth character unlocked after Robin.
  • Have Corrin join the player's party in World of Light.

With the exception of the third method, Corrin must then be defeated on Coliseum.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Corrin has received a mix of buffs and nerfs in the transition to Ultimate, but was nerfed overall. Corrin's mobility has been improved, which helps him with the more movement and offensive style of Ultimate. On top of this, Down Throw is a better KO option, and all of his aerials have reduced landing lag to go along with the rest of the roster. However, Corrin's nerfs seem to outweigh his buffs. Dragon Lunge has been significantly nerfed, as Corrin does not get as much range with his kick. He also is drastically more punishable on his backwards kick as he does not travel nearly as far. Corrin's grab is also slower, the stun time from Dragon Fang Shot has been reduced, and Counter Surge has been weakened. These changes have resulted in Corrin being a worse character than he was in SSB4, but to what extent is currently unknown.

Aesthetics

Attributes

  •   Like all characters, Corrin's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete (down from 6).
  •   Corrin dashes faster (1.45 → 1.595).
  •   Corrin walks faster (1.15 → 1.208).
  •   Corrin's air speed is higher (0.97 → 1.019).
  •   Corrin's double jump covers less distance.

Ground Attacks

  • Neutral attack:
    •   The third hit of neutral attack is now an outward slash rather than a stab.
      •   The individual hits of Corrin's infinite are much faster, and trap opponents more reliably.
  • Dash attack:
    •   Dash attack has less end lag.
  • Forward smash:
    •   Forward smash now has a water hit effect.

Aerial Attacks

  •   All aerials, except down aerial, have less landing lag (Neutral: frame 13 → 10, Forward: 14 → 8, Back: 14 → 13, Up: 15 → 9).
  • Forward aerial:
    •   Forward aerial has more startup lag.
  • Back aerial:
    •   Back aerial pushes Corrin farther forward, which improves its safety and recovery potential.
  • Down aerial:
    •   Down aerial's landing hit deals more knockback.
  • Up aerial:
    •   Up Aerial has had its knockback increased, giving it higher kill potential.

Throws/other attacks

  •   Standing grab has increased start-up lag and ending lag, and dash grab has increased ending lag.
  •   Corrin has a new pummel, a knee-kick. It is additionally faster than his previous pummel.
  • Forward throw:
    •   Forward throw has lower base knockback.
  • Down throw:
    •   Down throw has considerably higher knockback, making it better for KOs.

Special Moves

  • Dragon Fang Shot:
    •   The second shot of Dragon Fang Shot now gives knockback after the opponent was stunned.
    •   Dragon Fang Shot has had its stun time decreased.
    •   Dragon Fang Shot has had its knockback angle decreased this combined with the balloon knockback mechanic, prevents follow-ups from back aerial, Dragon Lunge, and a fully charged Dragon Fang Bite.
  • Dragon Lunge:
    •   Dragon Lunge can now be canceled by pressing down on the control stick.[2]
    •   The opponent can act out of Dragon Lunge if you attempt to cancel it.
    •   The kick portion of Dragon Lunge has Corrin slant towards the ground during the kick itself, rather than after. This, combined with the slower speed of the kick, ends up reducing the distance that the kick travels, which reduces its utility, and makes it easier to punish.
    •   Pinned Dragon Lunge will end automatically if left idle much faster than before.
    •   Dragon Lunge now has less range due to Corrin's lower position when performing it.
    •   After performing Dragon Lunge, Corrin cannot perform a full hop or an aerial attack.
  • Draconic Ascent:
    •   Draconic Ascent starts faster.
    •   Draconic Ascent halts at the end of the move instead of granting slight momentum, reducing its recovery potential.
    •   Draconic Ascent has had its knockback increased dramatically, this increases its KO potential at higher percents.
  • Counter Surge:
    •   Counter Surge is now active for more frames.
    •   Counter Surge no longer covers him from above, which gives it less vertical range and making it unsafe from opponents attacking above him. It also deals dramatically less knockback, no longer being one of the strongest counterattacks in the game.
    •   Counter Surge has more ending lag.

Classic Mode: Between White and Black

As the name suggests, Corrin's opponents are all in either white or black alternate costumes, referencing Corrin's struggle in choosing between Nohr and Hoshido.

Final Master Hand Final Destination Master Hand On intensity 7.0 and higher, Crazy Hand fights alongside Master Hand, and the track Master Hand / Crazy Hand plays during the battle.

Role in World of Light

Although Corrin does not appear in the World of Light opening cutscene, he was vaporized and later imprisoned alongside the rest of the fighters (sans Kirby) when Galeem unleashed his beams of light.

Corrin was one of the many fighters that fell under Dharkon's control upon Galeem's first defeat. He is on a cliff in the Mysterious Dimension sub-area, guarded the spirit of Azura.

Trivia

  • Corrin is the only character who, in the mural for Classic Mode, is represented by one of their alternate costumes: the female Corrin. This also makes him the only character with a gendered alternate to be represented by the opposite gender.
  • While Corrin is traditionally depicted as female by default in other non-Smash Brothers appearances such as in Fire Emblem Warriors, he is still depicted as male by default in Super Smash Brothers. Ultimate.
