The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters. |
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted. |

Octoling (enemy: タコゾネス, Takozones[1]; playable: タコ, Octopus) is an enemy and species of player character in the Splatoon universe.
Origin[edit]
Octolings are the Octarian equivalent to Inklings.
Some female Octolings serve the Octarian army as elite soldiers, who can be encountered as enemies in single-player modes of the Splatoon series.
The Octo Expansion DLC of Splatoon 2 introduces playable Octolings who look significantly different from the Octarian soldier ones and could be unlocked for multiplayer upon beating the DLC. However, despite the player controlling an Octoling in the DLC, Octarian soldier Octolings still appear as enemies, albeit "sanitized", a form of brainwashing used by the Kamabo Corporation. Octolings were also temporarily playable in multiplayer without the DLC for players who chose Team Octopus in the Squid vs. Octopus Splatfest. They return in Splatoon 3, where they can be played from the start.
Though this cannot happen in-game, lore-wise a Splatoon 2 Anniversary Famitsu interview reveals that only several female playable Octolings can become the aforementioned elite Octarian soldiers.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
As a costume[edit]

Octoling appears as a Mii Fighter hat as part of Round 11 of Ultimate. The design is based on the enemy soldiers encountered in the single-player campaigns.
