Aesthetics

  • Change Lucario's model features a more subdued color scheme. Its fur is more detailed, similar to Brawl.
  • Change Aura is now cyan in color instead of indigo, and its visual effects are smoother. At high aura, the flames produced are more vibrant and intense, leaving behind a trail as Lucario moves.

Attributes

  • Buff Like all characters, Lucario's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete.
  • Nerf Lucario's Aura is weaker in terms of racking up damage, hindering its usefulness.
  • Buff Lucario is overall stronger at early percentages with little to no Aura.

Ground attacks

  • Change Forward tilt has a new animation, with Lucario leaning back before the palm thrust.
  • Buff Forward smash has longer range.
  • Change Forward smash has more vibrant aura effects.

Aerial Attacks

  • Buff Neutral aerial now hits twice instead of one, no matter which side Lucario hits the opponent from. Additionally, Lucario is able to drag opponents with the attack, making it more likely for follow ups.
  • Buff Forward aerial has reduced landing lag.
  • Change Back aerial deals less damage and knockback to opponents, but it has less ending and startup lag, and has a bigger hitbox.
  • Change Up aerial has an altered animation, with Lucario backflipping following the initial kick.
  • Nerf Up aerial has increased ending lag.
  • Buff Down aerial has bigger hitboxes.
  • Nerf Down aerial stalls a bit less in the air.

Special Moves

  • Buff Aura Sphere has less endlag and can now be jump-canceled.
  • Nerf Aura Sphere travels slower.
  • Change Aura Sphere is now visually closer to how it appears in the anime and games. It has an "energy absorption" visual effect when charging and no longer emits a trail of smoke when launched.
  • Buff Force Palm has increased grab range at point blank range, making it more likely to grab opponents with the attack.
  • Nerf Extreme Speed travels a shorter distance.
  • Buff Extreme Speed has less ending lag and landing lag.
  • Buff Double Team's counterattack activates faster, making the attack harder to avoid.
  • Nerf Double Team has less active frames.
  • Change Lucario's Final Smash has been reverted to Aura Storm, but it now transforms into Mega Lucario.

Role in World of Light

Lucario was among the fighters summoned to the cliffside to fight against the army of Master Hands.

Lucario was present when Galeem unleashed its beams of light. Lucario dodged a beam of light using Double Team, but another beam of light hit it a moment later, vaporizing it and transforming it into a spirit along with the rest of the fighters, excluding Kirby.

Trivia

  • Lucario and Charizard are the only characters to have had their Final Smash change between games only to have it revert back to the previous Final Smash. In Lucario's case, it had Aura Storm in Brawl, changed to Mega Lucario in Smash 4, and then reverted back to Aura Storm in Ultimate.
