The Match Timer is an element that appears during a Time match in the series. It shows how much time it has left during a match. The timer starts when the announcer says "GO!". Starting with Super Smash Bros. Melee, the timer will disappear when there is only five seconds left in the match and the announcer will start counting down the final seconds. When time runs out, the announcer will call out "TIME!", the match will come to an end and there will be a winner or in the event of a tie, a Sudden Death match. The timer can be adjusted between 1 and 99 minutes in the Rules section. In addition to standard matches, the timer can also appear in minigames like Trophy Rush and Target Blast.

Pre-Match Timer

The Pre-Match Timer is an element that only appears at the start of a match. It starts from three when the announcer counts down. Characters will make their on-screen appearance during this time. When "GO!" appears on the screen, the match officially begins, as well as the Match Timer if applicable.

Trivia

  • In Super Smash Bros. 4, if Master Core is in its true form, the 5-second countdown still applies just like in a regular match. This has no effect in KOing Master Core, however.
  • If the Match Timer is between 60 and 99 minutes in Super Smash Bros. 4, then it will read X:XX:XX.XX.
