The Master Ball (マスターボール, Master Ball) is an item that appears in Super Smash Bros. 4. It functions similarly to a Poké Ball, and releases a Pokémon when thrown, but unlike a Poké Ball, it usually releases rare or legendary Pokémon; however, there is also a chance that a Master Ball releases the dud Pokémon Goldeen, which deals no damage. Legendary Pokémon can appear from both types of Poké Balls, but a Master Ball is far more likely to contain a legendary Pokémon.
Origin
In the Pokémon series, the Master Ball is by far the rarest of all Poké Ball variants, with the player usually able to only legitimately obtain one per save file without resorting to lottery-based minigames or trading. Whereas all other Poké Ball types may fail at capturing a wild Pokémon under certain circumstances, a Master Ball will catch any wild Pokémon without fail regardless of their health and status, making it trivial to catch difficult or legendary Pokémon, but only once per game.
