Insufficient notability involving the ssb64 page
This is my first time I've used the "talk function" so I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly.
Concerning this "insufficient notability". The pages i put out as glitches such as "PK thunder freeze glitch", "Roll Glitch", and "SleepSliding glitch" have all been marked "Considered for deletion in accordance with the deletion policy." You say the "glitch has no real impact on the competitive scene, and only 100,000+ views".
1) The sleepsliding glitch has no real impact on the scene, but hey what if someone tried the glitch out as a ledge-guard? Maybe for doubles it could be a useful way for team 1 to get pikachu from one side to the other for a ledge-guard with jigglypuff if team 2 were off-stage. Or maybe Jigglypuff use sleep as an aerial defense against pikachu as it tries to quick attack onto the stage? We could hopefully see someone expand this concept. The other thing is that I have noticed you took out some old glitches such as "blackhole glitch" cause it was very similar to the "green-shell glitch" but then again, the green-shell glitch isnt used in the competitive scene so why bother using that? 2) I'm not gonna lie but in a small community like smash 64 that's kind of a lot views granted how old this game is.
I've seen the sleepsliding glitch on other places already: http://es.smashbros.wikia.com/wiki/Archivo:SSB64_Sleeping_Pikachu_Glitch_(SleepSliding) Axe from Melee exploiting the glitch in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGTWI2f6AIE#t=418 melee, so maybe others can also as well.
3) I feel by inhibiting these sort of information there maybe be no opportunity for players to expand upon or experiment. I also feel that if there is a glitch it would be a neat trick for casual players to share and show each other and help expand the community. Anyways I didn't want to come off as rude but I'm still quite new to the wiki creation scene and am only trying to help.

- Aight, I'm gonna have to answer this in sections to bear with me a moment.
- 1) To answer your first question, the competitive thing wasn't the primary factor in my determining on whether or not it was notable (Black Hole glitch isn't usable in competitive play and it's still notable). It's noteworthy to mention, but it's not a key factor. The primary problem was the lack of attention to the glitch. As I said, the video only had 100,000+ views, which is impressive in of itself, but is also not as much as one would hope for. The biggest issue in terms of attention came from SmashBoards, which, as I said, only had two threads dedicated to talking about it (and there were barely any posts on both and none from anyone particularly notable) and no mention anywhere else.
- 2) Good point on most of what you said. The main thing I wanna point out is that wikia Smash sites aren't the most reliable places for determining notability (as just about anything is notable on wikia).
- 3) That last one isn't exactly our concern. If we were to follow under what you say, not only would this wiki be bloated with unnecessary content that barely anybody has heard of or cares about (such as smashers or even minor graphical glitches) and the wiki would be more of a strategy guide than anything, something that SW:NOT specifically says we are not. I know, it's not exactly the fairest in the world, but in all honesty it's worked.
- Hope all of this helps. Disaster Flare (talk) 15:59, 17 July 2016 (EDT)
- I've reviewed NA SSB64 Community and they seemed to be for this. If notoriety or notable is something you want as a factor, I'm willing to do a survey on the smashboard and on different FB ssb64 groups just to convince you that they want it. I'd rather you discuss this with David Shears cause this has with wiki entries (http://www.ssbwiki.com/Smasher:Shears) because of lack of data or evidence. For now I'll be through with any more entries involving glitches, techniques, or errors and such because I don't what will constitute as something even content-worthy.
Lv20ninja (talk) 16:36, 17 July 2016 (EDT)
- Well it's likely that with Miles pushing for a list of more minor glitches, this glitch will show up there (I'm not doubting the glitch is entirely unnotable), which I think it'll be perfect for there if you want my opinion. Personally I think a glitch should only have its own article if it has extreme notoriety for one reason or another, such as Black Hole and the Master Hand glitches, for instance. Character Usage Rules
You see, that a problem I have with this rule. Armada didn't win any sets with Fox at EVO2016, so by the rules the character shouldn't be listed. But Armada did use the character in grand finals, all the way till the end. The purpose of a wiki is to record notable moments and history of a subject, it seems odd to me that we're ignoring a character used in Grand Finals of one of the largest Melee tournaments so far. From the perspective of someone that will read this wiki years from now, when they see Armada's 2nd place finish and only Peach listed, they'll think he lost to Hungry Box using her, while the actual Grand Finals footage will be confusing, since he only uses Fox on that set.
I honestly think this rule needs to change, since it goes against the purpose of recording part of the competitive scene memory.PFFP (talk) 11:48, 20 July 2016 (EDT)
- You're talking to the wrong person in this case. I pay little attention to the competitive side of the wiki, so all I do is follow the policies with no standpoint on what to think of it. If you really want it changed, I recommend either starting a forum post or a talk page post on the policy itself suggesting the change and marking it as a proposed policy change. Personal Information removal from page edit history
Hi,
I'm kinda new and recently created a player page on the wiki that you commented on (Smasher:Kira_(Australia)), however I've made a mistake and include a piece of personal information about the smasher they didn't want made public (date of birth). I noticed you were a wiki admin so I thought I'd contact you about it (sorry). The smasher in question has asked me to remove it from the page and remove it from the edit history of the page. However I'm not sure how to best go about that or even if it's possible (would be a bit funny if a fresh user could change edit history). Would it be easier to request a page deletion and then recreate the page without the removed information or is it possible to edit the page edit history to not include it?
Sorry if I've messaged the wrong person about this or gone through the wrong channel,
Regards

- Yes, it would be possible, but considering it involves multiple revisions, I dunno how likely it'd be to remove it entirely, but I'll try to hide it as best I can. Disaster Flare (talk) 02:00, 3 August 2016 (EDT)

On how to clean up the Exceptions section in the Star KO page? I cut down the wording and all, but the list doesn't look very nice, but I'm not sure if that matters. MuteSpittah (talk) 15:44, 12 August 2016 (EDT)

"Notable players" rollbacking
For what it's worth, given how thoroughly we've given editors the requirements for notability, I would consider it acceptable to rollback instances of adding players without citing proof of notability. The main reason not to use rollback is that it doesn't give you the opportunity to leave an edit summary explaining why the edit was reverted, something which is less relevant when we have a million notes and advisories informing people how not to edit those sections. That's my reading of it, anyway. Miles (talk) 16:02, 16 August 2016 (EDT)

Hey
Before doing major things like deleting all the City PR's, maybe do a wiki-wide debate, to see what everyone's arguments are, then make your final decision, that's just what I think Poultry(talk) the God-Slayer 19:48, 8 September 2016 (EDT)
- That's the thing, this has been a thing that's been discussed for a while, and a few has already since been deleted before I started cracking down on it. The major problem with the city PRs is that since it only covers one city, several, if not all of the smashers, aren't notable. I've seen many an occasion where a smasher on only a City PR had awful results. With this in mind, there's no reason we should keep the city PRs, unless they only saved them for smashers who are doing an absolute awesome job in the community. - Okay, close on the signature, but without the nowiki tag and the parentheses. As for the results....hmmm...it's difficult to say. There seems to be quite a few non-notable stuff, but there are some (like DI or Die) that I believe is notable to some extent, not to mention the fact that they do seem like pretty good placements. I'll er toward caution and restore it for now, but I'll do a double-check on the actual tournaments and how many entrants as well as how much publicity each one had just to make sure. Until then, I'll restore it and feel free to add the placings, but please make sure to provide links to the brackets with the tournament placings on the article if you have them. - Okay cool, I'll go through it after work to start adding in the placements. I'll messaged this again when I do that.

People really should learn what categories are, how to use them, and why it's important to use them.
Considering this, would it be worth it to note this (as something like "remember to add categories") in the Guidelines section of the File Upload page (which I think is above admin powers, though)?
