Min Min (ミェンミェン, Min Min) is an upcoming playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. She is the seventh downloadable character in Ultimate and the first part of Fighters Pass Vol. 2. An ARMS character was announced to be playable as part of Challenger Pack 6 on March 26th, 2020 during a Nintendo Direct Mini. However, it was not revealed that it would be Min Min until June 22nd, 2020 during a Mr. Sakurai Presents. Min Min will be released on June 29th, 2020, and is classified as Fighter #76.

Attributes

  • True to the nature of ARMS, Min Min has a very long reach with her extendable ARMS. However, it also causes her ARM-based attacks to experience considerable lag, and makes her weaker overall in close-range combat.
  • Min Min's left Dragon ARM can become stronger, indicated by its larger appearance and flames billowing from it. The circumstances at which this occurs are currently unknown, but it is possible that it happens after Min Min throws an opponent. When powered up, the Dragon ARM will release a stronger laser for an unknown period of time.
  • The attack (A) and special (B) buttons are designated to her left and right ARMS respectively, allowing her to attack while alternating between ARMS. Pressing these buttons simultaneously will have Min Min attack with both ARMS at once.
  • Her down special, ARMS Change, allows Min Min to swap her right ARM between three different weapons (being identical to her standard ARMS in ARMS), each of which have a different effect on her ARM-based moves:
    • Ramram fires a curving projectile that covers a wider attack range at the cost of power. Angling it changes its trajectory slightly.
    • Megawatt is slightly slower and has a shorter reach, though makes up for it in power.
    • Dragon can be held down to fire a short-ranged laser beam. This is also her left ARM at all times.

Moveset

  • Min Min's held jab, neutral special, forward tilt, forward smash, forward and back aerials, and forward special are all a single, straight punch with one of her ARMS, A and B controlling the left and right arm respectively. She can move around and jump while performing the tilt variations of said attacks and use the smash versions in the air. She can also punch behind herself when alternating punches. She can also angle the attacks up and down. The arms have no hurtbox, making them disjointed, and the hitbox is only on the "fists".
    • Her held neutral attack, forward tilt, forward smash, forward aerial, and back aerial all utilize her left ARM, which is always the Dragon. Her forward smash is slightly stronger than these and has more range. In addition, it can be performed in the air as an aerial smash input similar to Robin. The smash attack can be angled so that it curves upward or downward. Min Min's "fist" will temporarily hover at its furthest extended point, and she can move forward, back, and jump while the "fist" is extending, extended fully, or retracting.
    • Her neutral special and side special function identically as above, with tilt, aerial, and angled variations all behaving exactly the same, except they utilize her right ARM, which can be swapped with Down Special.
    • A + B Smash attack makes her smash attack with her left and right arms consecutively.
  • Neutral aerial - rotates her right ARM in a downward circular motion. The speed and power of this attack changes based on her currently equipped ARM. The A + B buttons allow Min Min to use her left and right ARMS respectively; however they cannot both attack at once.
  • All of the rest of Min Min's attacks are pretty standard and incorporate kicks, which do not follow the rules of her ARM-based attacks:
    • Neutral attack (tapped) - The Kung Fu Combo: a quick hook kick, followed by a leg sweep, followed by a rapid series of kicks, ending with a side kick.
    • Dash attack - a flying kick, similar to Fox.
    • Up tilt - a quick wheel kick.
    • Down tilt - a sliding kick, similar to Joker.
    • Up smash - a somersault kick that can reflect projectiles. Based on her ability to deflect attacks with a kick in ARMS.
    • Down smash - a split kick, similar to Sonic.
    • Up aerial - a flip kick, similar to Mario.
    • Down aerial - a dive kick, similar to Sonic.
  • Up special - ARMS Jump / ARM Hook: on the ground, Min Min boosts herself into the air with her ARMS; it can be charged to increase her height. In the air, she uses her left Dragon ARM as a tether recovery.
  • Down special - ARMS Change: changes her right hand to three different weapons from ARMS: Dragon, Ramram, and Megawatt.
  • Final Smash - ARMS Rush: Min Min punches forward. If this punch connects with a fighter, a cinematic will play in which six ARMS fighters (Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Ninjara, Twintelle, Mechanica, and Master Mummy) will attack the fighter with a barrage of punches. Min Min then finishes the Final Smash with a blast from her left Dragon ARM, sending the opponent away.

  • Jumps onto the stage while spinning around like a corkscrew, performing a landing pose and then another pose afterwards.

  • Min Min does a high kick before assuming a defensive stance. This is based on the animation that plays after Min Min wins a round in ARMS.

Role in World of Light

Due to her status as downloadable content, Min Min does not have a legitimate role in World of Light. Instead, she is unlocked for use in the mode after freeing 10 fighters from Galeem's control. If loading an existing save file that meets this condition prior to downloading Min Min, she is immediately unlocked.

Spirits

The Min Min Fighter Spirit can be obtained by completing Classic Mode. It is also available periodically for purchase in the shop for 500 coins, but only after she has been downloaded. Unlocking her in World of Light allows the player to preview the first spirit below in the Spirit List under the name "Min Min".

Additionally, Min Min has an Attack-type Primary Spirit as part of Ultimate's base game.

  • Min Min is the fourth fighter to have appeared in a base Super Smash Bros. game in a non-playable capacity before eventually becoming a downloadable fighter, after both Mewtwo and Lucas in Smash 4, and Piranha Plant in Ultimate.
    • Of the four, she is the only one to be included as a Spirit in Ultimate's base game.
  • Min Min is the first DLC newcomer in any Smash game that came from a new first-party series; Corrin, Byleth, and Piranha Plant were from preexisting series.
  • Min Min and Inkling are the only characters in Smash to have had their series debut on an eighth generation video game console.
    • Additionally, Min Min is the only newcomer hailing from a series that debuted on the Nintendo Switch.
  • Min Min is the first solo DLC fighter in Ultimate to be female by default, and the second female DLC newcomer in the series overall, with the first being Bayonetta in Smash 4. Both are the seventh DLC fighter in their Smash Bros. series debut games.
  • Min Min is the second fighter whose victory theme has vocals, the first being Bayonetta.
  • According to series director Masahiro Sakurai, Min Min was selected as the ARMS representative by special request of Kosuke Yabuki, the producer of ARMS. Prior to this, both Min Min and Ninjara were in consideration for the spot.
  • Before the release of Ultimate, Sakurai considered adding characters from ARMS, but according to him, no character could be added in the base game due to character planning ending before ARMS was announced.
  • Min Min is the first newcomer to have their series revealed, but not the character until a later date.
  • Min Min is the third DLC newcomer to have a tether recovery, the first two being Joker and Byleth.
  • Min Min is the only DLC character in Ultimate to not be released within a few weeks of a new wave of amiibo.
  • The A and B buttons separately control each of Min Min's arms, just like in ARMS. However, by default in ARMS, the A button controls the right arm and the B button controls the left arm, while in Ultimate it is vice versa.
