Aesthetics

  • Change As with all veterans returning from SSB4, Mewtwo's model features a more subdued color scheme. Its body has a noticeable glossy sheen, and the end of its tail is slightly larger than before.
  • Change Some of Mewtwo's attacks have been updated with new particle effects, including every attack that previously had the Darkness effect like its smash attacks and special moves.
  • Change Mewtwo's idle animation has been slightly altered; it now keeps one of its arms lifted.

Attributes

  • Buff Like all characters, Mewtwo's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete.
  • Buff Mewtwo's aerial jump animation now takes less time to complete, improving its recovery and combo game.

Ground Moves

  • Change Forward tilt has a new animation where Mewtwo spins horizontally to strike with its tail.
  • Buff Forward tilt has more range and knockback.
  • Change Up tilt has an altered animation.
  • Buff Up tilt now properly connects with opponents behind Mewtwo.
  • Buff Up tilt has less end lag.
  • Nerf Down tilt has increased endlag.
  • Change Dash attack has an altered animation: Mewtwo now only uses one hand during the attack instead of both.
  • Buff Forward smash can now be angled.
  • Buff Up smash's effect area has been enlarged.

Aerial Moves

  • Change Neutral aerial now has Mewtwo discharge blue electricity around itself while flashing with a blue overlay, instead of discharging multicolored electric orbs.
  • Nerf Neutral aerial now deals less hits.
  • Buff Forward aerial's range has been significantly increased.
  • Change Back aerial does less damage, however its hitboxes have been significantly improved, now being able to reliably hit grounded opponents.
  • Change Up aerial received a modified animation; Mewtwo no longer faces the screen when finishing its sweep.
  • Buff Down aerial's hitbox size has been increased; it can now reliably hit grounded opponents off a full-hop.

Throws/other attacks

  • Nerf Forward throw's Shadow Balls are much smaller.
  • Buff Up throw K.O. potential slightly improved.
  • Change Back throw has an altered animation, with Mewtwo tossing the opponent over its shoulder nonchalantly.
  • Buff Down throw now combos at mid-high percents.

Special Moves

  • Change Shadow Ball's maximum size and damage has been limited, however this means that it also reaches its peak charge faster.
  • Buff Confusion's range has been increased.
  • Nerf Confusion halts Mewtwo's momentum, worsening it as a recovery move.
  • Nerf Confusion no longer corrects the opponent's position to the center of the ripple when captured.
  • Change Teleport has a darker, more distinct visual effect when Mewtwo disappears and reappears.
  • Buff Disable can now be reversed like many other specials.
  • Change Disable has a different animation, with Mewtwo spreading its arms out while flashing its eyes.
  • Buff Despite Mewtwo's posture being elevated during its new animation, Disable still hits small characters below it, improving its reach overall.
  • Change Psystrike has modified visual effects; it is now colored purple and white throughout instead of purple at the edge and black/yellow/blue in the center, and the center now contains a "burst" visual effect instead of a vortex. Upon hitting an opponent, its visual effects are also more intense.
