Talk:Crowd
Telling
I'm browsing through this Wiki when I see this page: Crowd Favorite. It had all of the crowd's gasp for Brawl. But no SSB or Melee crowd. Now, that's meant we only can copy it from there. My question: Can we copy it then use it here?? And can we add some sort of "See Also"? OK, that's all. Kirbythe Amazing 08:51, 18 April 2011 (EDT)
- That page will have to be merged with this one, which I can do later. Omega Tyrant 09:20, 18 April 2011 (EDT)
Merge
I suggested it a while ago but no one has said anything yet. Same content! merge this!--Shaun's Wiji Dodo talk 10:36, 20 April 2011 (EDT)
Sound clips?
Should their be sound clips for each character's cheers? They could be uploaded in the ogg file type, and could include both NTSC and Japanese sound bytes. Conny 15:54, 27 May 2013 (EDT)
- Yes. We could split these two videos into separate .ogg files and have them alongside the descriptions, or (for convenience) we could just add them to a gallery at the bottom of the page. Either way, an audio equivalent would demonstrate the article much better. SSBToad (talk) 13:25, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
- Oh, it's alright. I can directly dump the audio with Dolphin and with Fraps for SSB64 (since PJ64 doesn't have this function.) Placing them directly next to their description seems like a more viable idea, instead of the gallery, since the files are going to be jumbled up, but that's in my vision, and it's alright to object on that.
- I'll get started as soon as I can (which is right about now). Conny 21:48, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
- Fantastic! Thank you for doing that. I'd like to reformat the tables themselves into wikitables (for neatness), so I'll start doing that now. (BTW, I actually meant putting the videos themselves in a gallery, not the sound clips. However, what you're doing is much better :)). SSBToad (talk) 22:13, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
- Okay, good, because my knowledge on wikitables is nothing but a spec of grain right now (seems like I wasn't studying up like I was suppose to these last few months).

- I actually thought you meant placing the audio snips into a gallery, so I naturally though, "Oh, please no.". Let's just not place the videos into the page now anyways, it'll just ruin the whole aspect of the files. :P Anyways, I'll get started on the others on another day. Ripping, rendering, and converting is easier said than done. -- Conny 22:29, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
- Agreed. I've just updated the tables (you can now sort them, plus they look consistent with other tables on the wiki) so feel free to add to them when you can :). I've also added {{incomplete}} to the article until the files are uploaded (standard procedure), but you can remove the template if you have it under control. SSBToad (talk) 23:42, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
I have in my possession, every one of the NTSC Melee chants. They seem to be of higher quality than the ones already present (Jiggs, Pichu, Roy). The problem is this: to rip the chants, I used dolphin to get them directly from the game's ROM. The files were exported from the DAT files as DSP files then were direct formatted into WAV files. I do have the means of getting the OGGs through Audacity, but frankly, that is WAY too time consuming, although FAR faster than doing it through YouTube. Any suggestions? As a point of reference to the quality, I have done this for Marth's NTSC chant and uploaded it.
Also, if there were a way to do this a little quicker, would I replace the existing low-qual sounds? Serpent King (talk) 05:58, 18 March 2015 (EDT)
- In addition, I actually have every sound in the game. I don't know if that's helpful or not. Serpent King (talk) 06:14, 18 March 2015 (EDT)
Chants for Jiggs in SSBM PAL
The crowd shouts something sounding like "Dong-dong" in both French and German, despite its name being "Rondoudou" and "Pummeluff", respectively. Does anybody have an idea how to explain this? - Ceci n’est pas un Smiddle. 14:12, 7 June 2013 (EDT)
Japanese clips for SSBB
If you can't change the language to Japanese like in Melee, how do we get the rest of the Japanese clips? RoyboyX Talk 13:49, 3 August 2013 (EDT)
I have the JP clips in Melee but I don't know if I can or how to convert the files (Wave Sound files) to ogg. Help? RoyboyX Talk 14:32, 3 August 2013 (EDT)

Roy's Our Boy Again?
My friend just proceeded to tell me that he was watching a Twitch stream (I'd give the link, but my iPod refuses to copy links at the moment), and he noticed something; apparently, Roy Koopa has...in a way..."stolen" Roy's chant from Melee. And, as a bonus, this confirms that palette swaps with name changes will get different crowd chants. Now, I actually haven't watched the link (I don't want everything spoiled, you know), so I can't say whether or not this is a direct port from Melee or not. But, it should at least be worth mentioning...shouldn't it? Aidan the Gamer 23:44, 30 September 2014 (EDT)
- Until we can verify it's a direct port, it's not really noteworthy. If it's not a direct port, it's just a coincidence. The fanbase has been saturated with "Roy confirmed" jokes as it is, we don't need to bring that to the wiki. Return of Air Conditioner is really feeling it! 07:12, 1 October 2014 (EDT)
Ice Climbers' chant in SSB4
Since it is only in the Japanese version, they could just be saying, "Mu-ra-bi-to!". Awesomelink234 is really feeling it! 19:07, 16 October 2014 (EDT)
- I very clearly here at least one "na" and one "po", which would make it "Na-ra-po-to". I doubt it. ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 19:09, 16 October 2014 (EDT)
Split discussion.
Support split. Page is already at 27k+ bytes and will only grow larger as more sound files are added.
--- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 14:24, 15 December 2014 (EST)
- Support. The page is going to get larger, and it'll be easier to search for, in a sense, if a person wants to hear the crowd chants from a specific game. Rtzxy Reflect! 15:00, 15 December 2014 (EST)
- Support: Why don't we just put the sound files on the respective character's page (i.e., put Marth's crowd chants on his pages), and delete this page as a whole? BlueStreak Speeds By 18:54, 15 December 2014 (EST)
- The crowd has some function within Melee, thus making such an article appropriate. Furthermore, a centralised "hub" for all of the crowd's voice samples would be more useful than all of the sound files scattered all over the Wiki.

- Support. How would we handle the general crowd cheers and gasps, though? Nyargleblargle (Talk) 06:59, 13 April 2015 (EDT)
disagree. the page shouldn't be split. we NEED the list. we don't HAVE to split it as if it would save the world or whatever. i'm Valehd the smashbro pro!(talk) 17:46, 24 March 2015 (EDT)
- disagree. The pages would just end up being stubs. And we already have 1000 of those. Serpent King (talk) 09:46, 7 April 2015 (EDT)
- @Valehd, it would need to be split because the wiki can only handle so much space on a page.
- @Serpent King, they'd be small, but I doubt they'd be any bigger than any of the Masterpiece pages.
- Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 09:49, 7 April 2015 (EDT)

Neutral, leaning towards support. It seems kind of unnecessary because there aren't that many, but at the same time nearly every other page like this is split, it seems inconsistent. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 17:55, 4 June 2015 (EDT)
- Bump. We have 3.5 supports (I am assuming Aidan is support, Nutta is the half) and 3 opposes. Serpent King (talk) 08:45, 16 July 2015 (EDT)

So is anyone ever going to finish sounds for JP Brawl and 4?
I feel like I have already contributed to this enough by doing the Melee ones, and I cannot do 4's because I do not have it. Serpent King (talk) 20:01, 14 May 2015 (EDT)
Find the sound files from The Sounds Resource. It's very easy. 121.180.199.162 22:36, 26 June 2015 (EDT)
Roy's our boy
Sorry, Amiibae. Uploaded the Roy one before you. Then again, is the Ryu cheer an .ogg file? --BeepYou (talk) 16:00, 13 June 2015 (EDT)
So here's the thing.
I just looked it up and...well SSB4 characters have different crowd cheers for different countries. Each has a US, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and British version...If we are to include all of this, something different must be done.

Certain patterns I have noticed
So a direct reason for crowd cheering doesn't seem to exist... but there are some things in SSB4 that can relate to it. Sometimes, instead of the crowd subtlety cheering after someone is launched as usual, they will start to flourish into a clap, then quickly silence. Many times, but not always, a cheer for either the character that was launched or the launcher begins. Can anyone vouch for me here? RobSir zx 01:56, 26 March 2016 (EDT)
