Cloud is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. He was announced during the November 12th, 2015 Nintendo Direct.

Trivia
- Cloud is the second DLC character to represent a newly-added series to SSB4.
- Cloud's reveal trailer references moments and characters from the original Final Fantasy VII.
- In Cloud Strife's reveal trailer, it's obvious that Zelda portrays Aerith the flower girl, a playable character from Final Fantasy VII, as they bear a very similar appearance and have similar personalities, and the fact that Zelda is holding a Lip's Stick which bears a resemblance to the flowers Aerith sold in Final Fantasy VII
- Cloud vs Ike towards the end is a reference to the final battle in Cloud's mind between Cloud and Sephiroth.
