About Me
Hello. I have been playing the Smash Bros. series since I received Melee in 2006. I played Melee casually until I got Brawl in 2008, and played that casually up until early 2012, when I joined the IRC chat on this wiki. I played Brawl competitively on wifi untill around January of 2014, and then switched to Project M and Super Smash Flash 2. I have to thank the wiki and AllisBrawl for helping me get to where I am. I unfortunately can't go to most tournaments in my area (the few we have), so I am forced to play by myself or use Dolphin's netplay to play.
Brawl's extreme difficulty on a competitive level is very subtle, as it requires a lot of practice with specific matchups and characters to win. The characters I mained were generally sub-par compared to other high tiers and all were countered by Meta-Knight, so I always had a losing battle against any Meta Knight I faced on wifi. I feel that the game at times tend to limit my technical ability and actually makes me worse if I do not constantly practice and wifi (with its 8 or more frame input lag) makes this matter worse. I can beat most lower level players, but if you live at least 1000 miles from the United States I will tend to do poorly than I believe I will. Wifi is the primary reason I quit Brawl, as Brawl's high demand for tournament experience and correct spacing prevented me from progressing competitively.
As for Melee, I attempted to play the game competitively during the summer but lost interest over time. The Smash Bros. Documentary almost got me back on the Melee train (it is getting me on the Project M train instead), but Melee's tech skill gap and the severe physics change I would have to deal with is too severe. I have heard people compare Melee's tech skill gap to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and the most demanding fighting games. I still play it semi-competitively and I will strive to support the community. My main varies from time to time, but is generally Dr. Mario.
I am not playing wifi for Brawl or Project M any longer. I have a high tendency to become very stressed and angry when I play on wifi (especially if you are maining a character I struggle with) and tend to play very poorly. If you want to play me in a Smash game, I would suggest playing Super Smash Flash 2 or get Project M on Dolphin.
I attempted to play Pokémon competitively as well. I bought Pokémon X in October and have over 300 hours on it already. The game seemed enjoyable, but I was turned off from playing competitively to the extensive time it took to develop a team and my overall poor team building skills. I feel the RPG is holding me back in competitive Smash as well, so I have been reluctant to play competitively. I play based on Smogon rules as much as I can, but my lack of access to previous games and lack of effective resources to and knowledge to build a team seriously set me back. If you want to add me on the 3DS, just leave a message on my talk page. FC: 5198-2935-7260
As for Super Smash Flash 2, it is one of my favorite games to play on the PC and is more enjoyable than Brawl and Melee for me personally. I don't see what the hate is about it. A large portion of the Melee community finds the game clunky for some strange reasons. It's possible they have problems adapting to the slower frame rate Flash has (30fps compared to 60fps) and also have problems adapting to the removal of Wavedashing and L-Canceling (flash has auto L-canceling). The controls the keyboard has are pretty mediocre as well, so that could be a contributing factor.
I play Super Smash Flash 2 and Project M competitively (the former more so) and plan to play both on the computer once I get a Gamecube to USB adaptor. Super Smash Flash 2 will receive online mode through the McLeodGaming Newtwork (MGN) in March, so I recommend anyone to sign up for the MGN if you wish to play the game online. Check my subpage in the next section for more info about the game. MGN account: TheOtherBlue
