From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.
The Rules
- When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature.
- You can only vote once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
- Put a
#
before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
- Type
~~~~
after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
- There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to do so; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
- Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
- You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
- You may only vote in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
- Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
- While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing
|}
). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and only take effect when the entire round is viewed.
- If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
- Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
- Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
- Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things along the lines of "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already rather long page.
If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.
Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.
It's a battle between two versions of the iconic screwball. Is the throwing weapon with a satisfying smack or the sleek and sticky badge the better deal?
Votes for Screw Attack (SSBM)
- More strategy involved. --- ReiDemon, Author Extraordinaire, 23:58, 5 October 2012 (EDT)
- You can hold it forever, while the badge doesn't permanently stay. ShupaRoeh 01:44, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- It's more useful. You can hold onto it forever to use its primary effect, or you can throw at someone for high damage while launching them into the air in a helpless state (the only kind of attack in any Smash game that can do that). Plus, being able to hold it made it invaluable in the Multiman modes. Omega Tyrant 06:06, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- You can throw it to someone who's trying to recover and make them fall helplessly to their doom >:D Bandit 07:50, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- Same as 2 and 3. Terrible is Halloween 08:55, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- I find having to carry the item an inconvenience, as it will overwrite your A button attacks, and I've never yet used it to KO, but then I thought screw it, because it does seem fun to attack with. Toast ltimatum 09:33, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- The Brawl one looks cooler, but this one can be thrown at opponets. Being able to Screw Attack is good in Metroid, not Smash Bros. That's why whenever I got a Screw Attack in Melee, the first thing I'd do is throw it at an opponet. You can't do that in Brawl, so obviously the Melee version is the better one. Supersmash4 (talk) 10:54, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- This one is more useful, you can throw it as opposed to the Brawl one, when thrown at an opponent and hits them, you can punish them. Smash Master 12:12, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- I vote melee--Ikebandwaggon1 (talk) 13:12, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
Votes for Screw Attack (SSBB)
- Does not put you into helpless state. Mr. Anontalk 23:57, 5 October 2012 (EDT)
- Flashy.204.191.143.100 00:00, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- Dots The Cute Asian 00:05, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- Brawl's better than Melee! The Awesome 09:25, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- I played Brawl, and I want to be able to see my vote. 24.168.110.196 11:19, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- This one's better 'cause one can attack aerially without throwing it and making your opponent spin jump to damage you. 71.199.149.250 11:31, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- Giving your opponent a new way to attack you is just stupid, even if throw damage is given. Toadat9021doh (talk) 11:49, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- This one looks better. PepsiBoy 11:11, 7 October 2012 (EDT)
Black text against a navy background is a horrible, horrible idea. 24.168.110.196 11:18, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- I agree with this sentiment, I have to highlight the text to read it. Omega Tyrant 11:21, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- The colour is 15 units above the automatic white-text level, but since you complained I'll bump it in. Toomai Glittershine The Frivolous 11:23, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
Winner!! Wario Bros.
To KO Mario and Luigi on retro-inspired stages is the goal of both these events. Which one does it better - the two-minute timed match, or the silly-stage Wario time?
Votes for Mario Bros. Madness
- Because this stage is better--Bandit 11:31, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
- Dr. Mario compliments this very well. ShupaRoeh 12:23, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
- Cause it's Melee, I guess.Supersmash4 (talk) 13:03, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
- C'est mon favorite!! The Awesome 13:14, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
- I like this one; an easy event match to win, I tell you what. To score a good KO on Mario Bros. is an enormous headache compared to all other stages, banned or otherwise. Heh! 71.199.149.250 13:31, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
- The other stage is just... terrible. Naked Snake 13:27, 30 September 2012 (EDT)
- I don't have Melee, but Wario Bros. in Brawl is the worst. SSBBNess (talk) 14:51, 30 September 2012 (EDT)
- Dots The Safari 14:53, 30 September 2012 (EDT)
- This was one of the less remarkable events in Melee, but compared to Wario Bros., you get to choose your character, it's not a standard 2 on 1 affair, it's on a less terrible stage, and it's not a rehash. Omega Tyrant 03:24, 1 October 2012 (EDT)
- Who doesnt like Melee? Terrible is Halloween 17:01, 1 October 2012 (EDT)
- PepsiBoy 20:21, 1 October 2012 (EDT)
- Mario Bros. is just... bleh. Finnick (talk) 19:14, 2 October 2012 (EDT)
- I don't like that stage, it's cheap. This is better IMO. Besides, you get to choose your own character. Smash Master 21:55, 2 October 2012 (EDT)
- Mario Rules! The Cool 15:23, 3 October 2012 (EDT)
- Time for a hilarious video to be on this side of the poll. [1] Or at least a moment around 40 seconds into it that proves whether friendly fire is on or not. Toadat9021doh (talk) 18:56, 5 October 2012 (EDT)
