Jigglypuff (プリン, Purin in original Japanese language versions) is a character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Though not officially confirmed on the Smash Bros. DOJO!! website, Jigglypuff was indirectly revealed in a recently updated trailer on the official Japanese Wii website. Jigglypuff's Final Smash has been widely referred to as "Gigalypuff". It grows very large and does not inflict damage directly, though at maximum growth, it has a rest like effect. The purpose of this seems to be to knock opponents off the stage. This final smash might not be very useful in walled stages such as Onett due to the stage has a complete floor and no falls.
Event Matches
- Event 29: All Star Battle Semi-Regulars- Select your character to fight against the original 4 hidden characters on Yoshi's Island.
- Event 35: Flat Zone Visitors- As Mr. Game & Watch, KO Peach, Jigglypuff, and Toon Link on Flat Zone 2. All three opponents have the "Game & Watch" effect on their models.
Co-Op Event Matches
- Event 16: Jigglypuff's Big Change- On Castle Siege, play as tiny Jigglypuff and Mr. Game & Watch against giant Ness and Lucas. Over the course of the battle, your opponents shrink down to your tiny size.
- Event 21: The Real All Star Brawl- Select your character and take on the entire roster on Battlefield.
Role in the Subspace Emissary
Jigglypuff does not play a major role in the Subspace Emissary, as it is an optional character in Subspace Emmisary, much like Toon Link and Wolf. If you enter the new door in Swamp which appears after you've finished Subspace Emissary, it will take you to Pokemon Stadium 2, where Jigglypuff is performing a song. You will then fight Jigglypuff.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Rest is a powerful kill move at mid percentages, and racks up a lot of damage at lower percentages
- Aerials are still quick and have good priority and damage
- Has one of the best recoveries in the game
- Can Wall of Pain and is extremely effective at doing so; technique itself was invented by Jigglypuff
- Small target
- Huge horizontal movement speed
- Deceptively strong
- Most moves have small knock back, which allows for great combo ability
- Rest now adds the flower effect
- Has the best aerial maneuvering in the game allowing for a hit and run strategy that involves a short-hop towards an opponent followed by an aerial and then floating back
- All tilts are useful for combos or quick combo interception
- Extremely low crouch that allows for easy projectile dodging, except ground huggers(ice shot, gyromite etc.)
Cons:
- Lightest character in the game
- No projectile or way to reflect projectiles
- Short Range
- A missed Rest leaves Jigglypuff quite vulnerable for 4 seconds.
Special Moves
Special Movements
Up: Spins quickly and points to the sky.
Side: Spins once, puffs up and winks, then says "Jigglypuff!" (same as in Melee).
Down: Deflates and floats down. (same as KO animation in 3d pokemon games)
On-Screen Appearance: Appears from a Poke Ball, and puffs herself up.
Trivia
- The Jigglypuff that appears in previous Smash games was actually a "shiny" Jigglypuff. "Shiny" Pokemon are alternately colored and appear only about 1 for every 8192 normal Pokemon. They used to have green eyes, while normal Jigglypuff have blue eyes.
- One of Jigglypuff's alternate costumes is Leaf's hat (Leaf is the female counterpart to Red, also known as Pokemon Trainer, in the games Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Leaf Green).
- Jigglypuff, alongside Lucario and Ness were leaked as playable characters in an official preview video before the game's release and before being revealed on the Dojo (see image on the right).
