Lucas utilizes Duster's Rope Snake as his grab and Tether Recovery.

Rope Snake is a fictional character in Mother 3. He is a type of snake which Duster obtained from the ghosts of Osohe Castle. He helps Duster and company cross pits by allowing him to grasp candlesticks on the wall. Rope Snake is also used later to grab the getaway ship atop Thunder Tower, but when he cannot support the weight of four people and lets go, he is captured with Duster in Saturn Valley, where they turn up hung on a clothesline. After the party flies back to Tazmily Village by holding onto a cage of birds, Rope Snake fails a second time, and leaves the party. During the credits it is revealed he changed his name to Snake Rope to help live with the shame of failure.

In Super Smash Bros.

The Rope Snake is Lucas' Grab attack. He can also use it as a Tether Recovery, similarly to Samus's and Link's grabs (Grapple Beam and Clawshot, respectively). It also makes an appearance as Lucas' Side Taunt; he converses with the rope snake after it taps him on the shoulder.

Trivia

  • When used as a tether recovery, it is only slightly shorter than Ivysaur's Vine Whip.
  • In MOTHER 3, Lucas did not use a Rope Snake; the item actually belonged to Duster, who purchased it from the ghosts living in Osohe castle. The Rope Snake was actually a character that talked and was used as a rope to swing across pits and as a tether to hang from edges.
