Onin is a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Steve player from Michigan who is considered the second best Steve player in the world, after acola. He is currently ranked 1st on the Michigan Ultimate Power Rankings, and 30th on the LumiRank Mid-Year 2023.
Playstyle
Tournament history
Onin would start his career in Wi-Fi tournaments in 2019 and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021, and debuted on the offline Michigan Ultimate Power Rankings at 14th in Summer 2021. While already being in contention for the title of the best Steve player in the United States after taking first place in singles at both Combo Breaker 2022 and COST 2022, Onin won his first major at Get On My Level 2022, making him one of the youngest players to win an Ultimate major at just 16 years old, as well as the first North American Steve player to win a major. Onin won his first supermajor at Super Smash Con 2022, with wins over MuteAce, Glutonny, Maister, Riddles, and an unprecedented 3-0 sweep over MkLeo, solidifying himself as one of the current best players in North America as well as one of the best Steve players in the world. He made Top 8 appearances at majors through the rest of 2022, including 3rd at The Big House 10 and 2nd at Let's Make Moves Miami, resulting in him placing in the Top 10 on both UltRank 2022 and OrionRank 2022. Though he won several regionals in the first half of 2023, he was faltering at majors, placing 25th at Let's Make Big Moves 2023 and 17th at Battle of BC 5. After Onin placed 4th at Crown the Third, his first Top 8 at a major in six months, he announced on June 6th, 2023 he would be taking a break from Smash after the hate and harassment he was receiving as a Steve player over the past year.[1]
