Peach (ピーチ, Pīchi) has been confirmed to reappear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Originally shown in the Subspace Emissary trailer, she was later confirmed as a playable character on August 17. Her play style appears to be relatively unchanged, as she still possesses her floating ability, as well as her four distinct Special Moves. She has, however, been updated graphically to appear more realistic. Much to the dismay of Peach players, it appears as though her Down Smash has been powered down, and her Dashing Normal move now consists of two attacks.
Her Final Smash was recently shown in one of many videos of hands-on gameplay. Two drawings of Peach flank the window, and hearts frame the view. Peach blows numerous kisses, damaging all enemies and putting them to sleep. A plethora of health-restoring peaches drop from the sky; with her opponents subdued, Peach thus has the ability to restore health at her leisure.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Can Float
- Between the float, her long second jump, her parasol, and small contributions by the Peach Bomber and Toad, she has one of the longest and most versatile recoveries in the game.
- Turnips useful projectiles, especially for edgeguards
- Chance of deadly Gaddish or Bob-omb, or long-ranged Beam Sword when using Turnips
- Down Smash and Up Smash are quick and have several powerful, high priority hits
- Neutral A slap good for disrupting combos and grabs, as well as starting combos of her own
- Forward Aerial Crown Slap a great horizontal killer
Cons:
- Attacks lack range
- Down Smash greatly weakened from last game
- Dash attack a little weak
- Turnips vanish if they hit a shield or attack
- Fairly slow ground speed
- Killing aerial (Forward Aerial Crown Slap) a little slow
- final smash can help other player as well as peach in lowering damage
Changes from Melee to Brawl
- Dash A does two hits
- Down Smash range decreased, no longer sucks in as easily
- Radishes disappear when they hit a shield or attack
- Larger chance of pulling a Beam Sword, Bob-omb, or Mr. Saturn when Vegetable is used
- Cannot float cancel
- Peach Bomber releases a cloud of hearts instead of an explosion (possibly a homage to Super Princess Peach)
- Parasol is from Super Paper Mario
- Second jump has become much shorter with lesser animations
Role in the Subspace Emissary
After seeing Mario and Kirby attacked by the Subspace Army, she and Zelda run to aide them. While Mario was blasted away, she and Zelda were both captured by Petey Piranha. At this point, it is up to the player to decide which one to save. In a cutscene, Kirby delivers a final blow to Petey Piranha, who then becomes engulfed in flames and explodes shortly after. Kirby and Peach land safely away from the explosion. They turn to see Wario appear, his eyes on Zelda, who has been freed from her cage and seems somewhat weak; she is also a little farther away from the others. Wario is carrying a device that looks like a gun, but considerably larger. He points it at the tired Zelda, charges it up, and unleashes the blast. A black arrow extends from the device and hits Zelda in the chest, knocking her into the air. She is then turned into a trophy, which Wario takes and runs. Peach and Kirby are shocked by this and turn to look at the Subspace Bomb, which only has five seconds to go before it goes off. Kirby and Peach take off as the bomb hits zero; an interdimensional explosion engulfs the stadium. Luckily, Kirby and Peach escape on a Warp Star at the last minute. They fly through the air, pursued by the Halberd, before accidentally landing on it. Soon after, an Arwing gets shot down, blowing Peach and Kirby off the Halberd and onto the ground below.
Later, Peach is attacked by Bowser, who transforms her into a trophy, and leaves a Dark Bug clone in her place. The clone attacks Link and Yoshi, who destroy it. Unfortunately, Mario arrives just in time to see the (fake) trophy of the princess dissolving at Link's feet, and attacks him in a rage. Peach is brought to the Halberd and imprisoned in a cage along with Zelda.
Meta-Knight, Lucario, and Snake infiltrate the Halberd, where the find the princesses, and have to fight a pair of their clones to rescue them. After restoring the princesses, Snake tells them to stay where they are while they retake the ship, But Peach and Zelda (as Sheik) strike out on their own to investigate the matter themselves. They make their way to the Halberd's top deck, just as Fox McCloud attacks the ship, strafing the decks with his Arwing. Sheik forces Fox to eject, but Peach quickly defuses the situation by giving them tea before they can start fighting.
