Pit (SSB4)

Pit (ピット, Pitto) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. Aside from general graphical enhancements, he sports the animesque look he had in Kid Icarus: Uprising. His special moves have been given an extensive overhaul to be based on the weapons and powers he wields in Uprising.

Antony Del Rio reprised his role as Pit after Kid Icarus Uprising in Smash 4, as well as in Palutena's debut trailer. A video showing his new voice can be seen here.

Changes from Brawl

Pit has been more re-balanced from Brawl to Smash 4. While he can no longer glide, he has new recovery options to compensate.

  • Buff Pit is slightly heavier than in Brawl.
  • Buff His dash attack has less ending lag.
  • Buff Pit has a new side special move called the Upperdash Arm. The Upperdash Arm gives Pit some form of launch resistance, just like homing dash attacks in Uprising, and the move also propels him vertically if he hits a target while airborne, similar to Raptor Boost.
    • Change This move can also reflect projectiles and launch them diagonally.
  • Buff Pit now uses the Guardian Orbitars as his new down special move, which deals damage and reflects in both directions.
  • Buff Forward smash, back throw, and up smash appear to have strengthened.
    • Nerf However, his forward smash deals less damage.
    • Nerf In addition, the final hit of his up smash is now slower than the first two.
  • Buff Neutral infinite, as with other neutral infinite attacks, now transitions into a powerful hit.
    • Nerf His basic neutral attack (three slashing hits) deals slightly less damage.
  • Buff Up tilt animation is tighter and has less lag throughout and appears to be stronger.
    • Nerf It deals noticeably less damage, dealing 10% instead of 16%.
  • Nerf Pit, along with Meta Knight and Charizard, can no longer glide.
  • Nerf A number of Pit's attacks (e.g. forward tilt, dash attack, up smash) deal less damage than in Brawl. His forward tilt also has more ending lag.
    • Change Pit's swords has now a flash to indicate a successful sweetspot.
  • Change Pit's pose when charging and firing Palutena's Arrow has been slightly altered to look sharper.
    • Nerf It has much more startup, deals less damage, and the arrows produced vanish after a short time.
  • Change Pit's new forward aerial now has him spinning his bow around in front of him, much like his neutral aerial.
  • Change When using his side taunt, Pit now says "That all you got?"
    • Change Similarly, when he uses his up taunt, Pit now says "Come on!"
  • Change Pit's rolling dodges include the sound made in Kid Icarus: Uprising when attacks are dodged.
  • Change Pit has a new Final Smash, Three Sacred Treasures.
  • Change Pit now says "I'm finished..." if he is KO'd.

The following appear visually unchanged:

  • Up and down taunts

Special Moves

In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants. Out of all of Pit's special moves from Brawl, only Palutena's Arrow is retained. These are Pit's special moves:

Neutral Special Palutena's Arrow Piercing Bow Guiding Bow
Side Special Upperdash Arm Interception Arm Quickdash Arm
Up Special Power of Flight Striking Flight Breezy Flight
Down Special Guardian Orbitars Impact Orbitars Amplifying Orbitars

Trivia

  • Pit was the first returning character that was a newcomer in Super Smash Bros. Brawl to be confirmed.
  • Pit's new victory pose, where he holds up a V-sign, is a reference to the ending of Kid Icarus Uprising.
  • Pit sometimes yells "I'm finished...!" upon being KO'd, as a reference to the game over screen of the original Kid Icarus. This makes Pit one of three characters to yell a complete sentence upon being KO'd in Smash 4, alongside Robin and Dark Pit.
