The 'Records' option in the 'Data' menu.

Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl keep a variety of Records of play in their save files; in all three games, it can be accessed through the Data menu.

In Super Smash Bros.

In Super Smash Bros., only VS records are stored in the data; unlike later games, other records are not recorded.

Battle Score

In the first screen of the VS Records screen, the player is given a spreadsheet of sorts featuring all characters they have. The characters are lined up in order on both the left and top of the screen, based on how many cumulative KOs they have attained throughout gameplay, with a higher number of KOs allowing for a higher place.

In the grid next and below the fighters, multiple numbers appear to show how many times the character on the left has KO'd the character on top. In the example in the gallery below, Pikachu has knocked out Ness a total of four times, and he has attained 5 KOs in the total course of the game.

Ranking

In this menu, the player is able to analyse various use statistics for each character; the categories include the following:

  • Win %, which is a ratio of how many KOs that character has compared to the total amount.
  • KOs, which shows how many cumulative KOs the character has.
  • TKO, which shows how many cumulative Falls the character has, including SDs.
  • SD%, which shows how often the character has accidentally KO'd itself compared to its total TKOs.
  • Time, which shows how many hours and minutes the player has used the character.
  • Use %, which shows how often in a ratio against 100 that the player has used the character.
  • Avg, which shows how many players (including the character) the character is involved in a match on average. The maximum is 4.0 and the minimum is 2.0

Individual

Individual lists various ranks about individual characters, particularly against other players, such as the characters win percentage (in this case, the ratio of KOing an opponent to being KOed by that opponent), KOs, Falls, and average number of players with the character(s). The 2.0 means that almost every match has 2 players total while the 4.0 means that almost every match has 4 players participating.

VS Records in Melee

Similar to its predecessor, the first page presents a spreadsheet, featuring all the characters they have unlocked. The characters are organized based on how many cumulative KOs they have attained, with a higher number of KOs leading to a higher place on the sheet.

In the grid next and below the fighters, multiple numbers appear to show how many times the character on the left has KO'd the character on top, and how many times the character on the left has been KO'd by the character on the top.

On the second page, individual statistics are given for each character, while the third page lists the top 5 characters for each stastic, which are shown below:
