#I really like Tabuu's concepts and his Off Waves attack (aka the "Red Rings of Death"), but ''Super Smash Bros. 64'' nailed the final boss. You vanquish oversized monkeys, clash with skilled swordsmen, ward off beasts, and eliminate polygonal knock-offs, only for your journey to culminate in a battle with a giant, white floating ''glove'' that reigns over the fighters - stationed atop a suspended platform in a foreboding expanse of space with ominous music playing in the background.

Forums: Index Smash Arena

SmashArena.png

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature.
  2. You can only vote once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to do so; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may only vote in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and only take effect when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things along the lines of "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already rather long page.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

  3. He came first. Terrible is Halloween 11:38, 20 October 2012 (EDT)
  4. You're fighting normal characters, than all of a sudden a giant hand appears! Supersmash4 (talk) 13:22, 20 October 2012 (EDT)
  5. Giga Bowser must really be liked if they chose him as a Final Smash over the Koopa Clown Car or Dry Bowser, but what SuperSmash4 said got me thinking, I never got to the Giga Bowser battle, so I don't have any scary memories of Bowser suddenly mutating. I do however have memories of the unexpected hand coming from no where. So, The Winner is...Master Hand! Nintendosega75 (talk) 13:27, 20 October 2012 (EDT)
  6. Easy but a lot more nostalgic. Master Hand is creativity over brutality and dominance (Giga Bowser and Tabuu respectively).LightningBlue405MS.png 19:16, 20 October 2012 (EDT)
  7. Eh. Never played Melee, so I don't know what Giga Bowser is like there, but I do know Brawl, and don't like Tabuu. Master Hand is my favorite to fight, especially when he's alongside Crazy Hand.--Starman125 (talk) 21:38, 20 October 2012 (EDT)

Two generic stages designs with unusual goals: KO prevention and collectible farming. Which special-purpose stage has more support?

  3. I always disapproved of farming for collectibles the way of the CD Factory, I'd rather it be done the slow and fun way, whereas No KO, I often see used well in machinimas, as a sort of jail cell, mostly using drop blocks in the place of spikes. 20. The CD Factory is indeed very helpful, but I already got every piece of music in Brawl years ago. No KO stages are just plain fun, although the name is moot, seeing as one can escape provided they use certain items or Final Smashes, or by moving at the speed of light. Hawk 21PSIWolf sig 1.pngTalk 23:46, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
  21. This was the one I discovered on my own. But I always use drop-down blocks instead of spikes, save for the corners. The picture shown just looks cruel (though mine is pretty cruel if you have items turned off). JamesHeart123 01:19, 19 October 2012 (EDT)

Votes for CD Factory

  1. Very helpful, especially when trying to get those last few stickers, which can be a pain to gather. The gimmick of No KO also tends to get boring after a little while, whereas CD Factory always has its use (and multiplayer ones can be an interesting custom stage to fight on). Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 11:56, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
  2. Helped me get those last few CDs without any obstacles getting in the way. 204.191.143.100 12:36, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
  3. This was incredibly useful for collecting the last few stickers, there was only so long I could tolerate playing through the Subspace Emissary levels to hunt for stickers. 110.174.90.69 03:13, 14 October 2012 (EDT)
  4. Helped me get a few trophies and stickers here and there :) 217.44.196.30 03:10, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
  5. It involves sandbag. 142.244.111.116 11:33, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
  6. Discs are more hard to get than long fights. 79.180.246.73 13:53, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
  7. CDs are extremly hard to get otherwise. Plus it's fun as a normal stage. Nintendosega75 (talk) 12:25, 17 October 2012 (EDT)
  8. 129.128.29.72 10:02, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
  9. Getting the last few stickers is a real pain. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Krazy4Krash (talk) 06:45, 19 October 2012 (EDT)
  10. CD Factory gets my vote in this match. While the concept of the No KO custom stage variants is intriguing, its purpose only works really well in Stamina Mode (unless you happen to be playing with some other goal in mind where No KO stages are suitable for your purposes). Also, if I randomize stages in SSB Brawl and I'm not in Stamina Mode, it forces me to reset, as the match would be endless otherwise (and you can't turn off specific stages in Brawl's "Random Stage options"; it has to be all custom stages either on or off for randomization.) CD Factory, on the other hand, was much more helpful to me (especially when I sought after the long-coveted "Title (Kid Icarus)" CD/track in My Music, netting me quite a few Stickers in the process as well. Normally, I'd just play and let the CDs drop when they will, but the appearance of Mew (who can drop CDs at times) and its Pokémon brethren is a bit too rare for my circumstances, given how often I'm able to play the game. I also like the layout of the CD Factory, as it seems like it took a bit of thought from SSB players to develop properly, rather than the simplistic No KO stage variants, which anyone could have thought up, really. So, CD Factory it is (but poor Sandbag...subject to so many attacks from players. T_T XD). Fenyx4 (talk) 12:56, 19 October 2012 (EDT)

Half-votes

  1. What's the point of a stage where you can't kill people? And please don't answer that, it was rhetorical. Davsto (talk) 11:14, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
  2. I have never once used either of these stages; CDs, trophies and such always appeared easily for me, and No KO just seems like a five second thrill, if even that. But I'll give a slight benefit to the CD Factory for at least having a practical use. --- ReiDemon, Author Extraordinaire, 12:49, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
  3. This would be really helpful if I could just get it to work. But it's stillfun to fight on. The No KO just looks stupid. It's way more fun if you get rid of the highest block on the left. Making it an Almost No KO. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Supersmash4 (talkcontribs) 13:21, 2012 October 13‎
