Forums: Index Smash Arena Smash Arena

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, just vote if you are a total fanboy of the character. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you can remain anonymous! If you have any requests for future fights, please feel free to leave a message here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature.
  2. You can only vote once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to do so; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comment section. It is recommended that you do not post argumentative, accusative, or any sort of comment with the intention of starting an argument with someone on the opposing side. The Smash Arena is a popularity contest, there's no need to argue with the other side on why your choice is superior, or why they are wrong with their reasoning for picking their choice. It is also recommended that you do not post comments that are just pointing out/complaining how close/one sided a matchup is. These sort of comments are worthless, and do nothing but make an already large page larger.
  8. You may only vote in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it).
  10. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.

If your vote is not added correctly - that is, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have one hour to fix it. After this time, it may be moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion. In addition, if your votes-to-rulebreaks ratio climbs too high, your votes may count for zero until the ratio drops to an acceptable level.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half.

Round 96: Gulpin vs. Munchlax

Winner!!

Munchlax1.jpg
The two Pokémon from Brawl that seem to eat quite a lot. Which has a bigger taste for victory?

  2. Least it helps. MegaTron1XD:p 22:28, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
  3. This one doesn't stick around for far too long and interrupt me when I attempt to get snapshots involving pokeball pokemon. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 22:29, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
  4. Gulpin is cute and useful, two qualities Munchlax lacks. Squishyfrog Chat 22:34, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
  5. What does Munchlax do exactly? DoctorPain99 {ROLLBACKER} 22:35, 22 July 2011 (EDT)

  7. Munchlax is so annoying, eating every item it can find. Gulpin is annoying for your opponent, but is very satisfying for you. Heh heh... Mastersword (talk) 01:39, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  8. All Munchlax does is eat items while Gulpin eats peoples i believe which makes him more useful Goomba's Shoe15 (talk) 01:55, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  9. Oh Munchlax, how I hate you so. Dornob (talk) 02:06, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

  12. About to grab assist trophy. Munchlax eats it. Fu- ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 03:33, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  13. It does DAMAGE, unlike Munchlax. When I'm playing Brawl and I see Munchlax, he almost never does something :/--PSIWolf (TCE) 06:16, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  14. Trapping opponents in Gulpin and spamming down-smashes is so effective! Munchlax... isn't. ToastUltimatum OlimarHeadSSBB.pngComplaints Box 07:48, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  15. Yay, my fight is up! Anyway, I remember what Solar Dragon said when this was in the Suggestions. "Eat my assist trophy you little..." --107.5.57.137 07:53, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  16. Gulpin does something useful: Swallows, allowing rack up damage opportunities. Munchlax just walks for a long time eating items (which is very annoying when i want to get a useful item and then he EATS it!) Gulpin FTW. Zeldasmash (talk) 09:33, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  17. I like gulpin because while it is swallowing and inflicting damage you can use falcon punches to add even more damage.I always play as captain falcon in traning and try that !!!! Real help:)98.116.118.143 09:37, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  18. As a Pokemon I hate Gulpin, but it is definitely more useful than Munchlax in Brawl. 110.174.90.69 09:38, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  19. With gulpin chewing my opponent, i can down smash (With Lucas of course) my opponent lots of time, and the damage buildup will be massive unlike munchlax that eat the assist trophy and stickers i'm after >:D Lucas-IV-PK LoveLucas alive.PNG 10:48, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

  21. I like Mucnhlax Better (Snorlax FTW) But in terms of brawl usefulness, Gulpin takes this one with flying colors.
  22. Yeah..... 67.173.145.76 11:40, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  23. Munchlax is not good for anything, considering I use nothing but Pokeballs in brawls from time to time. Dark Mai Valentine (talk) 13:42, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
  24. Generation 3 is underrated. Besides, Munchlax does so little that for a while I didn't know he even did anything.--174.59.4.202 14:00, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

  3. Munchlax is entirely useless. At least Gulpin's useful!

Votes for Munchlax

  1. Munchlax is awesome, I don't care if it doesn't do anything useful :D Captain Falcon (Falcon Edit!) File:CFalconHeadSSBB.png 09:56, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

Could this be the first unanimous poll on the wiki? I don't want to see any sympathy votes! ToastUltimatum OlimarHeadSSBB.pngComplaints Box 08:51, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

Uhh...no. Look here.--107.5.57.137 09:00, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
Oh, never mind then. Still, this forum wasn't nearly as popular back then, and if I was registered, I would have actually voted for Ganondorf! (Not sympathetically, Warlock Punch antics) I'm hoping for another, though! ToastUltimatum OlimarHeadSSBB.pngComplaints Box 09:34, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

@Vote 23 - Munchlax is from Generation 3. Ever played Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness on Gamecube? --FireEmblemFan275 (talk) 15:18, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

Appearing in a Generation 3 game doesn't make it a Generation 3 Pokémon. Plenty of Pokémon cameo in the anime before their official debuts, and the XD appearance was just another one of those - a cameo. You can't actually use Munchlax in XD. Flicky (talk) 18:21, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
I think it was in Generation 4. ..... Battlecruiser operational. FoxHeadSSBB.png PK contribution 12:38, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

Munchlax is a Gen IV Pokemon, but the anime introduced it while Gen III was still underway. Ruby & Sapphire did not have any data for Munchlax, and so could not be used in the games (or playability in the spinoffs, as they could sometimes connect with the main games), but as the Pokemon undeniably existed, Game Freak thought Munchlax might as well have had some cameos, such as its appearances in XD and Dash. The same thing happened with Lucario, Bonsly, maybe Mime Jr. and Weavile. ToastUltimatum OlimarHeadSSBB.pngComplaints Box 13:17, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

  10. Once you fall in Jungle Japes' rushing rapids, all hopes of recovery is lost! Besides, I don't want my skirt to get wet. Heh! Dark Mai Valentine (talk) 17:58, 16 July 2011 (EDT)
  11. I find Jungle Japes to be too restrictive when fighting. There's hardly anywhere to fight properly. 110.174.90.69 22:05, 16 July 2011 (EDT)

  17. I just hate the river at the bottom of Jungle Japes. CriticalHit60 (talk) 20:58, 17 July 2011 (EDT)
  18. I've played this stage to death in the original. I rarely go to Jungle Japes in Brawl - or is that because it's a Melee stage? 68.174.11.29 23:24, 17 July 2011 (EDT)
  19. This stage look more classical than Jungle Japes. Watermelon (talk) 01:42, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
  20. More space to destroy others but both have awsome DK music. 108.1.79.66 09:11, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
  21. If I had to choose one.. the classic sunset effect and other background sprites win me over. HavocReaper 16:29, 20 July 2011 (EDT)
  22. Jungle Japes, despite having arguably better music, is really, really not fun. Congo Jungle seems to have a better atmosphere, and is far more playable overall. Hawk 21 (talk) 22:59, 20 July 2011 (EDT)
  23. The first SSB game I played was the original, and I never played melee, so... I choose to stay with the original. The river in Jungle japes is also annoying. When I play Jungle japes in brawl, I try to think it's actually congo jungle... --85.64.224.247 12:01, 21 July 2011 (EDT)
