My favorite Nintendo franchises are the Donkey Kong Country series (''Returns'' is the stuff!), The Legend of Zelda series, the Mario series, and the Star Fox series. As for non-Nintendo franchises, I enjoy Rareware's classics and their new games (excluding ''Grabbed by the Ghoulies'' and that ''Kinect Sports'' thing),  the Sonic the Hedgehog series (especially the Genesis-era games, when [[Sonic]] was in his prime), the Halo series, and various others I don't feel like writing down at the moment.
