Super Smash Bros. Ultimate winners Japan Raru

Sumabato SP 47 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate major held in Daito City, Osaka Prefecture on May 19th, 2024.

Tournament summary

Although he had won the last three Sumabato events, including the crossover with KOWLOON, the first seed Miya was upset very early on by #65 seed Shion 2-0 (upset factor 12) before falling to #27 seed Yone_pi 3-2 for 9th (upset factor 9), marking not only Miya's worst Japanese placement since Kagaribi 9, but also the first Sumabato event where he did not place in the top 8 since Sumabato SP 30 almost 2 years prior. With #4 seed Yoshidora losing to Asimo 3-0 and #26 seed Kuroponzu 2-3 (upset factor 7) for 9th, no previous major winner was present in top 8.

On the other hand, after falling to Injelly, Kuroponzu saw a 12-set Losers run, which includes eliminating Tsuna 3-2, Yoshidora, Rarikkusu 3-0, Snow 3-0, Eik 3-1, and Asimo 3-2 to meet Raru in Grand Finals. Although Kuroponzu took the first set 3-2, Raru held him off in the reset 3-2 to win the event, his first major win after having come close several times before. This not only marked first-ever major win for a Luigi player in Ultimate, but the first-ever major win for any Luigi player in Smash history.
