GENESIS was an international tournament held by DBR in July 2009, for Melee and Brawl. It is the fifth largest Brawl tournament of all time with 292 entrants (behind Apex 2012, Apex 2014, Apex 2013, and AxisGaming), and it was also the largest Melee tournament ever at the time, with 290 entrants, although its record was later surpassed by Pound 4.

Stagelist

Melee

• Starters: Battlefield, Final Destination, Dream Land, Yoshi's Story, Pokémon Stadium, Fountain of Dreams*, Kongo Jungle 64**
• Counterpicks: Rainbow Cruise, Poké Floats, Corneria, Brinstar, Mute City*

*Fountain of Dreams and Mute City were banned in doubles only.
**Kongo Jungle 64 was treated as a neutral stage only during singles bracket. It was a counterpick during pools and doubles bracket.

During pools, the starter stage was selected by both sides striking one stage followed by random select.

During bracket, the starter stage was selected by both sides alternately striking stages (i.e. P1-P2-P1-P2-P1-P2 order for singles and P1-P2-P1-P2 order for doubles) until one stage remained. (The rule behind Kongo Jungle 64 was specifically to ensure an odd number of starters for both singles and doubles.)

During both pools and bracket, for games 2+ of a set, the winner was allowed to ban one stage before the loser chose among the remaining starter and counterpick stages.

Brawl

• Starters: Battlefield, Final Destination, Smashville, Yoshi's Island*, Pokémon Stadium*
• Counterpicks: Lylat Cruise, Delfino Plaza, Castle Siege, Frigate Orpheon, Halberd, Rainbow Cruise, Brinstar

*Yoshi's Island and Pokémon Stadium were treated as neutral stages only during bracket. They were counterpicks during pools.

During pools, the starter stage was chosen by random select only.

During bracket, the starter stage was selected by both sides alternately striking stages (i.e. P1-P2-P1-P2 order) until one stage remained.

During both pools and bracket, for games 2+ of a set, the winner was allowed to ban one stage before the loser chose among the remaining starter and counterpick stages.

Trivia
