Whispy Woods (ウィスピーウッズ, Whispy Woods) is a boss from the Kirby universe.
Origin
Whispy Woods made its debut in the very first Kirby game, Kirby's Dream Land, where it is the very first boss. It has since become a series staple, appearing as an early boss in several games, sometimes alternating with various alternate forms, such as Flowery Woods, Clanky Woods, and Tropic Woods. Its basic attack pattern is shooting damaging puffs of air and making apples drop: unless he has a copy ability, to defeat it Kirby must Inhale the apples and spit them back at him.
In Super Smash Bros.
As a stage element
Whispy Woods appears in the background of Dream Land, position to the left of center. He will occasionally blow a weak stream of air from his mouth towards one side of the stage, pushing any characters caught in the wind away from the center of the stage. If there are characters to his right he will blow to the right, if there are characters to his left he will blow to the left, and if there are characters on either side he will pick a direction at random. The speed of the air gets weaker the further from Whispy Woods the character is.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
As a stage element
Whispy Woods reappears in the same role as he did in Smash 64 on the Past Stage Dream Land with the only difference being that the wind no longer gets weaker with distance.
Whispy Woods also appears in the center of the background of the stage Green Greens. Like on Dream Land he will blow air to either side of him with the same rules, however the wind is slightly stronger. He will also shake apples from its branches—the apples have a variety of different effects: If an apple hits a character as it falls to the ground, that character will take damage, and when an apple lands, it becomes either a healing item or a throwing weapon.
Trophy
- Whispy Woods
- A boss enemy from Kirby's Dream Land, Whispy Woods is a big tree that shoots whirlwinds at Kirby. It isn't the toughest enemy: all Kirby has to do is avoid the occasional whirlwind, suck in apples that fall down, and then shoot them back at the tree. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Whispy Woods is quite the blowhard.
- Kirby's Dream Land (8/92)
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
As a stage element
Dream Land doesn't return in Brawl but Green Greens does, along with Whispy Woods. He behaves almost identically to how he did in Melee with one minor change: the wind now has an upward angle of 10 degrees. Due to the upward angle, characters fall slightly slower while in the wind, however the amount is almost negligible (about 0.04 units per frame, being overpowered by even Jigglypuff's gravity of 0.05056).

In Super Smash Bros. 4
As a stage element
Dream Land returns in Smash 4 but not Green Greens. Whispy Woods is again present on Dream Land, acting the same way as he did in Melee.
Trophy
Whispy Woods' trophy is exclusive to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and is part if the "The Beginning of Kirby" Trophy Box.
- Whispy Woods
- Whispy Woods lives deep in the forest, waiting patiently for Kirby to stop by so he can share his delicious apples with the pink hero... That's not true at all, actually. Instead, he drops apples on Kirby, trying to cause him injury. He may look friendly, but remember what they say: don't judge a tree by its bark.
- : Kirby's Dream Land (08/1992)
- : Kirby's Return to Dream Land (10/2011)
- In the heart of a beautiful green forest, Whispy Woods is waiting to give Kirby some juicy red apples. Isn't that nice? Well...not really, since he drops them on Kirby's head like bombs. If that wasn't bad enough, he'll also suck up the pink puffball and blast him with air. Note to self: be more wary of trees with faces.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
As a stage element
Both Dream Land and Green Greens appear in Ultimate and Whispy Woods appears in both. On Dream Land he acts the same as in the prior games. On Green Greens he also acts the same like in the previous games but his wind was changed again. He returns to blowing at a 0 degree angle like in Melee, but the wind speed has been doubled.
