{universe}/Elements appearing in the series
The following content are represented throughout the Super Smash Bros. franchise under the Mario universe. The latest game represented in this universe is Mario Golf: Super Rush, released on June 25, 2021.
Media with elements appearing in the Super Smash Bros. series
Mario Bros. (Game & Watch)
- Playable Characters:
- Luigi, who debuted in this game, is an unlockable character for all games other than Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3ds/Wii U, where he is a starter.
- Mr. Game & Watch's forward-aerial attack involves swinging a package, much like Mario and Luigi do in that game.
- Mr. Game & Watch's down taunt is based on Mario and Luigi's animation after finishing a level.
Mario's Cement Factory
- Playable Characters:
Mario Bros.
- Playable Characters:
- Luigi's white costume in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee is reminiscent of what he wore in the NES version of this game. Additionally, his fireballs are identical to the green ones that appear in this game.
- Mario's green alternate costume in all Super Smash Bros. games is based on Luigi's outfit on the cover of Mario Bros. Wario also has these colors for one of his alternate costumes in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- Mario's pink and cyan alternate costume in Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is based on his outfit on the Japanese/Europe box art of Mario Bros. Wario also has these colors for one of his alternate costumes in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- Luigi's cyan and navy blue alternate costume in all Super Smash Bros. games is based on Mario's outfit on the box art of Mario Bros.
- Coins make their first appearance in this game as collectible bonus items, and appear in Mario, Luigi, and Dr. Mario's (Melee only) Super Jump Punch.
- Red and Green Fireballs also make a debut, though the Mario Bros. are unable to control these. They would later do so in the successor to this game, Super Mario Bros., but only the red fireballs exist.
- In Super Smash Bros. 4, the sound effect for Luigi crawling emits the same sound when running in this game.
- Warp Pipes, which debuted in this game, are used in Mario and Luigi's On-screen appearances in all Smash Bros. games except Melee.
- Stages:
- One of the levels appears as a stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate under the same name as the game, but Freezies (due to already being items), Red Fireballs, and Fighter Flies are not present.
- Stage elements:
- The way a character respawns in most modes is similar to how the brothers respawn in this game after losing a life (see revival platform).
- The Shellcreeper enemies are the predecessors to the Koopa Troopas, which play many roles in the series.
- Items:
- The Freezie enemies in this game became items in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. 4.
- The POW Block appears as an item in Super Smash Bros. 4.
- Trophies:
- Sidesteppers and Shellcreepers appear as trophies in Brawl and Smash for Wii U .
- Fighter Flies appear as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
