Smash Opinions

• Melee
  • I think these are the top 5 characters in order: Fox, Jigglypuff, Marth, Falco, and Sheik.
  • If wobbling is allowed, there should be a restiction on how many times you can use it in a game.
  • Hungrybox definitely does not deserve all of the hate that he gets. If someone doesn't like his playstyle, they don't have to watch him but they shouldn't insult the guy or harass him on Twitter.
  • Armada is the best Melee player of all time and one of my favorite players.
  • Armada vs Hbox at EVO 2016 was probably my favorite Melee set of all time. However, I think Leffen's run at EVO 2018 was the best any player has ever played the game.

• Brawl
  • I think these are the top 5 characters in order: Meta Knight, Ice Climbers, Diddy Kong, Olimar, and Snake.
  • I do not think Brawl has a single "GOAT" or "best player of all time" because Meta Knight carried every single player who used him and I do mean everybody (Nairo, Mew2King, ZeRo, etc) and I have the same opinion about Ice Climbers. If I had to pick somebody though, it would either be Ally (when he played Snake and not MK) or ADHD.
  • A very fun game to play casually but a terrible game competitively. The latter is due to the following:
    • Terrible character balance as Meta Knight invalidates every other character and Ice Climbers can literally kill you with one grab where you have almost no chance to escape.
      • That being said, I actually think the game would have good character balance if MK and ICs were either banned or not in the game altogether.
    • Random tripping was not only an annoyance but could actually significantly impact the outcome of a game. However, moves that cause the opponent to trip such as Diddy's Banana Peels is completely fine.
    • Hitstun cancelling basically makes it impossible to perform combos unless you're playing as MK. Combos are a significant part of why watching competitive Smash is enjoyable (to me at least).
    • The game's severe move staling allows low damage moves to lead into themselves which makes them overpowered as damage rackers. It also significantly delays the game since characters will few KO moves such as Diddy Kong are forced to keep them fresh and always be aware of how many times they use their KO moves. While I can understand that some may say this makes the meta more strategic, it severely affects character with few KO moves which hurts the meta imo.
    • As much as I love Snake since he's my main in that game, even I think that his hitboxes are ridiculously huge.

• Smash 4
  • I think these are the top 5 characters in order: Bayonetta, Cloud, Rosalina & Luma, Sheik, and Fox.

• Ultimate

As of update 11.0.0, I do not know which characters I would consider top 5. I will update this when I have an idea as well a put more of my thoughts about Smash 4 and Ultimate.

Trivia

• I plan on starting to participate in competitive Smash when the pandemic is under control (whenever that is). I also wish Brawl and Smash 4 still had active competitive scenes.
• I'm not really into Smash 64, but I love all of its successors (Melee, Brawl, Smash 4, and Ultimate). Although I love and enjoy all of them, my list from favorite to least favorite is this: Ultimate > Melee > Brawl > Smash 4.
• I love Sakurai but I think he might have been high when he created Brawl Meta Knight.
  • Regardless, I still love the game despite its problems (bad character balance, random tripping, hitstun cancelling, severe move staling, etc).
• I love the Smash series, but I do not like the Smash community for several reasons. Of course, there are some amazing people and players in the community as well so these do not apply to them.
  • Infamous for poor hygiene (this isn't as serious as the other reasons below but still).
  • If your character is a high tier or top tier, you will mostly get some form of hate or disdain from many other players who will say you are "carried".
    • Additionally the same will happen based on your playstyle. No one should be insulted or verbally abused and harassed because they have a campy playstyle. That being said, I don't think playstyles centered around timing people out should be allowed (or should at least have restrictions) because I think it ruins the integrity of the game.
  • Some in the community are misogynistic and freqently harass girls and women for playing video games saying thing along the line of "girls can't play video games".
  • Sexual assault and rape ended up being far more prevalent than I thought, especially with minors.
  • Some will lie and make up stories about how certain players harassed and abused them in order to defame them and ruin their reputation. Examples of players this has happened to are Nairo and Mew2King.
  • Cancel culture is extremely prevalent with many outing and harassing a certain player who was accused of something before they even see any evidence.
• I am extremely introverted and struggle with social anxiety (trying to overcome this). Thus, I have never been in a relationship (please don't make fun of me for this, it's very personal).
• I am a computer science major.
• I have a weakness for apple flavored Izze's and blue Jones sodas.
