Pyra (ホムラ, Homura) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. She was confirmed as a playable fighter alongside Mythra during the February 17th, 2021 Nintendo Direct, and was released on March 4th, 2021 as part of Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Pyra is classified as Fighter #79.
Skye Bennett reprises her role as Pyra in English, while Shino Shimoji reprises her role in Japanese.
Known information
- Pyra is tied to Mythra as a two-in-one fighter, similar to how Zelda and Sheik functioned in Melee and Brawl. She can transform into Mythra quickly, using her down special, Swap to Mythra.
- Pyra and Mythra are semi-clones of each other, with all of their non-special moves having similar animations but having different frame data, damage, and knockback. Following the archetypical traits of a transforming character, Pyra is the "slow but strong" of the duo while Mythra is the "fast but weak". In addition, their remaining special moves are all unique.
- In a similar fashion to Palutena, Cloud, and Sephiroth, Pyra walks normally but floats during her dash.
Moveset
- Normals
- Dash attack - A running upward slash, similar to Ike. Unlike Mythra's dash attack Pyra's has fire effects.
- Forward tilt - A horizontal slash in front of herself.
- Up tilt - An overhead slash from behind her, similar to Cloud.
- Down tilt - A crouching swipe with her sword.
- Forward smash - Flare Smash, a lunging two-handed sword slash, with an animation very similar to Hero and Flare Blade's fire effects. Similarly to Ganondorf's notorious forward smash, it is very powerful, though rather slow.
- Up smash - Twirls her sword above her.
- Down smash - A spinning pirouette while slashing with the Aegis Sword.
- Neutral aerial - Spins the Aegis Sword around herself, akin to Flame Nova.
- Forward aerial - Slashes in an upward arch followed by an elegant twirl, similar to Toon Link.
- Back aerial - Flips while slashing in an upward arch.
- Up aerial - An overhead somersaulting slash, resembling the up aerials of most of the Fire Emblem characters.
- Down aerial - Slashes downward in an arc, similar to Marth's down aerial in Melee and Brawl or Meta Knight. It can meteor smash opponents.
- Forward throw - Uses fire to launch her opponent forward.
- Back throw - Turns around and kicks the opponent, similar to Cloud.
- Up throw - Uses one hand to throw the opponent upward.
- Down throw - Uses the Aegis sword to send a vertical stab into the opponent.
- Pyra's special moves consist of her abilities as seen in Xenoblade Chronicles 2:
- Neutral special - Flame Nova - A spinning attack similar to Toon Link's Spin Attack, drawing in opponents, dealing multiple hits before launching them. The move can be charged to increase its power.
- Side special - Blazing End - A projectile attack comparable to moves such as Boomerang and Cross where she throws her sword forward. Her sword remains spinning after traveling a distance where it continues dealing damage until it returns to Pyra's hand. After Pyra has thrown her sword away, she can freely move around, but cannot perform any attacks until the sword has returned to her hand, which includes her special moves. The move can be smash-inputted to increase the sword's travel distance
- Up special - Prominence Revolt - Performs an upward slash followed by a downward stab. Comparable to Mii Swordfighter's Stone Scabbard.
- Down special - Swap to Mythra - Transforms from Pyra into Mythra. Has invicibilty during the transformation.
- Burning Sword - Pyra's Final Smash, consisting of Rex appearing and performing a wide-range slash before the two initiate Burning Sword. A cutscene Final Smash that shares the same scenery as Chain Attack.
Taunts
- Up taunt: Holds her sword in front of her while flames engulf behind her. Rex appears and pumps his fist up.
Victory poses
- Pyra briefly morphs into Mythra, who does a pose and spins around while morphing back into Pyra, who does a finishing pose by extending her sword out.
- Tosses her sword in the air while twirling and catches it while posing. Rex will jump in next to her and hold a fist up.
- Holds her sword in front of her, then she and Rex hold it together and point it up in the air.

Role in World of LightDespite their status as downloadable content, Pyra and Mythra do have a legitimate role in World of Light, as they appear in the base game as spirits in the Light Realm and the Final Battle respectively, meaning that they were vaporized by Galeem. The Pyra spirit can be purchased for 10,000SP in Anna's Emporium once Anna's spirit has been defeated. Purchasing this spirit does not unlock her and Mythra as a playable character; rather, they are unlocked after downloading them and freeing at least 10 other fighters from Galeem's control, just like other DLC characters. SpiritsPyra's fighter spirit can be obtained by completing Classic Mode. It is also available periodically for purchase in the shop for 500 coins, but only after she has been downloaded. Unlocking her in World of Light allows the player to preview the second spirit below in the Spirit List. Additionally, Pyra has a support spirit as part of Ultimate's base game. Reveal trailerGallery
