Announced at E3 2006, Mario (マリオ, Mario) is a character in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He initially seemed relatively unchanged from Super Smash Bros. Melee, but it is now known that he has a new special move: F.L.U.D.D. His previous Down Special move, the Mario Tornado, is still usable, but has been changed to his Down aerial.

His Final Smash is a large, swirling vortex of Fireballs, called the "Mario Finale." Most likely use on the end of a stage. Better chance of hitting everybody.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Solid all-around character with no glaring size or speed flaws
  • Forward Aerial is powerful spike
  • Neutral, Back, and Up Aerials are all quick and have decent knockback
  • F.L.U.D.D. can be used to harass Horizontal recoveries
  • Cape can be used to reflect projectiles or disrupt recoveries
  • Has two projectile attacks
  • With Cape and Super Jump Punch, has a decent recovery
  • Fireball can be annoying and disruptive

Cons:

  • Fireball is a weak projectile.
  • Water from the F.L.U.D.D. Cannon does no damage.
  • Attacks lack range.
  • Has bad grab range.
  • Most of his K.O.s require a setup.

Changes from Melee to Brawl

  • New Down Special: F.L.U.D.D.
  • Down Aerial is now Mario Tornado

Role in the Subspace Emissary

In the beginning, a trophy of Mario and Kirby are thrown into an arena. The two come to life and fight. The player chooses the one to play with. If Mario is chosen, the opponent will be Kirby. After the battle between the two, Mario resurrects Kirby. However, this breaks the laws of the Smash universe, and therefore, the Subspace Army ambushes the two. Peach and Zelda come to help and they are all confronted by the Ancient Minister. After seeing the two R.O.B.s setting up a bomb, Mario runs to try and stop it, only to be blasted away by Petey Piranha. Afterwards, he meets Pit after his descent from Skyworld.

Once Mario and Pit return to the ground, they fight Primids across green plains and attempt to stop the Ancient Minister from delivering a bomb. Both fail, however, and continue on their quest. Shadowbugs had taken over Peach's body, and were making her try to fire the Trophy Gun at Mario. However, Link and Yoshi destroyed the gun, and fought the princess. Mario notices them standing by Peach's trophy, and runs at incredible speeds, then tries to punch Link. He misses, however, and then Mario and Pit will fight Link and Yoshi. This scene can change, though. If you rescue Zelda from Petey Piranha, then she will try to fire the gun at Link, but Mario and Pit will destroy the gun, and fight her. Link will then see them standing over her trophy, and will run at incredible speeds, and try to slice Mario. Link and Yoshi will then fight Mario and Pit.

Once you defeat the opponents, King Dedede will use Wario's trophy car to snatch the Princess you fought. He will also snatch the opponents you fought. But while they are in the mechanical arm that grabbed them, Kirby will slice the arm, and revive the opponents. King Dedede will then turn around, and try to charge at you, but will steer away when either Link or Pit fires an arrow at him, thus damaging his car. Then the five will follow Dedede. After a long journey, Mario and his friends confront Bowser, who escapes with Peach's trophy. Mario then leads his team in helping Marth and Ike's group, and helps the other heroes at the end when they face Taboo and the might of the Subspace Army.
