The Hero is the name given to the protagonists from the Dragon Quest franchise.

Origin

The Hero's default skin is based off of Irebun from Dragon Quest XI, while his alternate costumes are based off of Erdrick from Dragon Quest III, Solo from Dragon Quest IV, and Eight from Dragon Quest VIII.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

During the E3 Nintendo Direct the Hero was confirmed to be included into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC Fighter alongside Banjo & Kazooie. The Hero is planned to be released during summer 2019.

Trivia

  • The Hero is the second playable third-party character owned by Square Enix, the first being Cloud.
  • He is the first playable third-party character whose alternate costumes replace his model with a different character
  • Out of the four Heroes, only Dragon Quest VIII's hero is without an official name.
  • Dragon Quest, EarthBound, Final Fantasy, and Persona are the only universes without playable characters from the first installment in their series in Super Smash Bros.
  • While several characters are given generic names (namely, Villager, Pokémon Trainer, and Inkling) because of the ambiguity of their name in their own universe (owing to the fact that the player can decide their name), the Hero instead chooses not to use any given name (despite three of them having official names in Dragon Quest media) and use the generic title of "Hero" instead.
    • This makes them the only third party characters with this trait.
