:I disagree with making this change, if for no other reason than that the infobox is elongated excessively by stacking the art vertically like that. In my opinion, leaving the alternate images elsewhere on the page would be preferable. I removed that irrelevant crap
But there's a problem. Look at Mario's page; there is something on the right and it appears to be a result of disruption. Please help? BNK [E|T|C] 03:32, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Is the disruption you're speaking of is the Japanese voice actor section, where it just says {{{japanactor}}}? Omega Tyrant 12:07, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
On my computer this template adds in an extra }} after it on every page. I cant immediately see where this comes from on the page but it needs to be fixed Oni Dark Link 15:50, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
- Fixed it. Toomai Glittershine 15:57, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
- Um, apparently some users can't take a hint and keep putting that nonsense back up here. I'm removing that stuff again until a user gives me a logical reason why we should keep it. Doctor Pain 99 (CTE) 23:19, September 7, 2010 (UTC)
Series symbol in template
People seem to be debating whether the general character pages should have the subject's series symbol floating to the top left of the article text. Should we put it in the template (below the caption) instead? Toomai Glittershine The Superlative 10:03, 17 November 2012 (EST)
- Yeah they should be below the caption like on the articles with those characters playable.Brawls of fury (talk) 17:56, 17 November 2012 (EST)
- Definitely. It looks much, much better aesthetically. Air Conditioner a real nowhere man 17:05, 20 November 2012 (EST)
- Can we start doing this? Brawls of fury (talk) 16:58, 26 November 2012 (EST)

Reduction of unnecessary fluff
I propose the following:
- Remove the "hair" and "eyes" lines. It should be immediately apparent from the images provided on the page.
- Remove the "homeworld" line. In most cases it provides little relevant information, and in several terminology has to be outright invented.
- Compression of the "creator" and "artist" lines.
- Compression of the voice actor lines into one line that lists who voices them in Smash. We don't need to list every person who has ever provided that character's voice in their home series.
- Not using this template on Assist Trophy character pages, and instead implementing a simpler infobox specifically for Assist Trophies who don't need this much detail. (Additionally, AT pages should use their Smash artwork in their infoboxes, not original-series artwork like playable characters).
Thoughts? Miles (talk) 23:52, 16 May 2014 (EDT)
- I agree with most of this, though I also think the voice actor line is dumb and needs to go. Toomai Glittershine The Sphere 10:38, 17 May 2014 (EDT)
- Oppose Some of It
- "Hair" and "eyes" is admittedly fluff-ish, but it really isn't too irrelevant to place on this template, in my opinion.
- "Homeworld" is a rather important section, in my opinion. The only terminology we ever really had to invent was for Villager and Rosalina (and even then, claiming to have "invented" these names is kinda pushing it.)
- "Creator" and "artist" should be compressed.
- "I agree with your voice actor proposal.
- We already use {{AssistTrophy}} for Assist Trophies. It is much simpler, and it has a pretty good amount of info in it, without looking overwhelming. Also, I think that series-artwork looks better than Smash artwork for them. I don't really see why we would want to have just the Smash-artwork. ChuckNorris 12:09, 17 May 2014 (EDT)
Sometimes people debate about the hair and eyes. Rosalina is an example of when we debated about whether she has blue eyes or green eyes. C'mon, they're obviously blue. They are only slightly lighter than Mario's and they are no where near Sonic's. And I don't like that "opal" compromise because no one knows the color opal. It's just some variation of blue which is a natural eye color. When I see a character that has eyes close enough to natural eye colors, I'd rather have the simple color instead of some advanced variation. We'd might as well consider Peach's hair to be yellow instead of blonde. Nintendo meant Rosalina to be the color of the sky (blue). If we can't figure out whether something is blue or green, might as well leave it out of the template. Homeworld is pretty much debatable too. A lot of characters are from Earth. Sonic's homeworld of Mobius is only canon to the comics and cartoons. His games take place on Earth. Homeworld should probably be merged with universe. I've already removed some non-Smash voice actors so that should be justified. We do have an infobox for assist trophies. I think what really needs an infobox are the cameos big enough to have pages. Slippy Toad shouldn't use a general infobox as he's never playable and Otacon isn't an assist trophy. I also think maybe universes that don't have a symbol in the games but had a symbol created for interwiki purposes such as Golden Sun should use those symbols and we can create more unofficial symbols to universes that don't have them, like Tomachi. However, the unofficial symbols should probably be only created after Smash 4 comes out since you never know if they would add symbols. SeanWheeler (talk) 19:43, 17 May 2014 (EDT)
Bringing this back up.
- Remove hair, eyes, and artist. Hair and eyes are really flufflish, and is artist really necessary when we have creator?
- Either remove console of origin or merge it with first appearance. You can click on the game title for a reason, and it would tell you the game's console.
- Compress voice actors to only the Smash actors. Allowing more is begging for unnecessary bloating.
We should preferably settle this before Smash 4 comes out and the huge wave of new characters arrives. intendrone42 16:27, 3 July 2014 (EDT)
- I'm fine with removing hair, eyes, and artist. However, merging "First Appearance" with "Console of Origin" is a terrible idea in my opinion. ChuckNorris 16:42, 3 July 2014 (EDT)
- Yeah, I wasn't totally sure about the console one, but put it up just in case. intendrone42 16:49, 3 July 2014 (EDT)
What's the verdict? I agree with Miles; we don't need to describe hair and eye colors, and voice actors should only be from the Smash Bros. games (though I think that's already the case). Blue Ninjakoopa 21:21, 19 July 2014 (EDT)
- I agree with Miles as well, and I also think artist is unnecessary. intendrone42 21:44, 19 July 2014 (EDT)
So is it time for the final verdict? This talk page seems to be in favor of removing the hair, eyes, and artist lines. Any objections? ChuckNorris 10:56, 21 July 2014 (EDT)
I left artist because only one person was against it, and I feel it's necessary information for knowing part of what influenced character artwork in the Smash Bros. games. Blue Ninjakoopa 18:06, 25 July 2014 (EDT)
Smash Bros. appearances
Why on earth is "Smash Bros. appearances" being done using a switch in this template based on the character's name? This is something that should be done using a separate parameter. It actually doesn't currently include Duck Hunt anyway. --SnorlaxMonster 02:30, 13 November 2014 (EST)
Most recent game idea
How about we move this to a sub-template like the universe row? That way when a new Mario game comes out we only have to edit one page instead of ten, etc. Toomai Glittershine The Altruistic 17:55, 17 September 2015 (EDT)
- It would be much less of a headache. Support. Nyargleblargle (Talk · Contribs) 19:42, 17 September 2015 (EDT)
"Homeworld"
The way the Homeworld section is used on various character pages is terribly inconsistent. Kirby's is Dream Land, which is just a section of his home planet. Mario's is Mushroom Kingdom, which is a country. Olimar's is Hocotate, which is actually a planet. Bayonetta's is Vigrid, which is a fake city in Europe. I feel like we really need to redefine what "Homeworld" is supposed to be. ScizorSteelix 01:02, 6 February 2016 (EST)
- I would either drop it entirely or change the label to "Place of origin", which is more appropriately general. Miles (talk) 02:56, 6 February 2016 (EST)
- I'd support "Place of origin" Serpent King 03:17, 6 February 2016 (EST)
- Works for me. ScizorSteelix 08:56, 6 February 2016 (EST)
- Will someone need to change all of the character pages to the new label? If so, I can make that my agenda today. ScizorSteelix 11:14, 6 February 2016 (EST)
Fighter Numbers
This sort of goes along with my other talking point on the Characters page.
I think, since SSBU's putting every fighter into a unified order using its numbering system, we should list these numbers in the character information.
We already list information that's less pertinent to Smash than this, like species, gender, and place of origin; so I see no reason why a fighter's official number couldn't be another field on this list.

Yes, put the fighter numbers in the infoboxes
- Support. I mean, it's my own proposal, obviously. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahemtoday (talk • contribs) 17:57, 14 June 2018
- Agreed. It is an official way to number them after all. Master Zach (talk) 18:02, 14 June 2018 (EDT)
- SupportAs used in all ultimate official media, the order to sortering of unlocked characteres follow this and as isn't arbitrary and follow series historic: https://sourcegaming.info/2018/06/14/what-do-smash-ultimates-character-numbers-mean/ Shideravan (talk) 19:23, 24 June 2018 (EDT)
No, it's not relevant enough
- Weak oppose. As far as I'm concerned, this ordering is only official for Ultimate unless someone finds it in another installment somewhere, and we generally don't list traits only present in one game on this infobox. We could make it an optional field on the game-specific infobox instead. Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 18:03, 14 June 2018 (EDT)
- No. This is primarily the "non-Smash Bros. characteristics" infobox. Toomai Glittershine The Wacko 10:11, 15 June 2018 (EDT)
Should Major Alternate costumes’ image be placed right below the default’s image instead of the gallery or character description?
For example, instead of Female Corrin/Robin being where they currently are, an Template:Image2 slot is placed there specifically for certain alternate costumes, such as the ones I just mentioned. I’m presenting a similar arguement as in Template:Infobox Character Lou Cena (talk) 02:46, 3 February 2019 (EST)
