I believe it would be nice if the upcoming Smash tournaments are listed somewhere in the main page. Perhaps alongside the latest results on a "tournament news" section or something, so it doesn't hinder non-tournament related news. | |||
I suggest this because it's a bit frustrating that you keep being informed about the results after a tournament is finished, but never about the tournament being held in the first place. In my experience, this holds true for several Smash-focused sites and communities as well, where the results are guaranteed to make the front page so you don't miss them but, in contrast, you have to actively search for the upcoming events instead. --[[User:Gabo 2oo|Gabo 2oo]] ([[User talk:Gabo 2oo|talk]]) 01:10, 9 September 2018 (EDT) |

Official SSB4 Tier List
So, should we add characters tier placings in their articles for SSB4? This is an odd time to make one in my opinion. -- Ethan(Discussion) 20:58, 1 February 2016 (EST)
Do or DI
Should we mention Do or DI in the news template and create a page for it? I think it's too small for news but it could have a page since it has some good smashers like Nairo and Dabuz. -- Ethan(Discussion) 19:54, 13 March 2016 (EDT)
It should have a page. Not sure about the news template, the tournament had a high skill density but local-level numbers. Thehard (talk)

Smash 5
The news headlines don't mention that Shrek the ogre and the Incredible Hulk were yesterday (March 31st) announced for Smash 5 and that Sora from Kingdom Hearts was announced today. The Sackinator (talk) 12:32, 1 April 2016 (EDT)
- Yeah... let's not added that. :/ Dots (talk) The Metal Gear REX 12:34, 1 April 2016 (EDT)
- I'd do the edit myself, but I don't think I can. Could we add Smash 5 as an article? The Sackinator (talk) 12:35, 1 April 2016 (EDT)
- No, just because it's April Fool's day doesn't mean we can do whatever we want. That would take things too far. Disaster Flare (talk) 12:36, 1 April 2016 (EDT)

News story suggestion
Would this work?
- Update 1.1.6 for Super Smash Bros. 4 is announced, which adds wavedashing and L-canceling to the game, and replaces Lucina, Dark Pit and Corrin with King K. Rool, Ridley and Isaac. However, datamining reveals that the patch expires after 24 hours, along with an embedded soundbite of Masahiro Sakurai laughing.Darthrai (talk) 13:42, 1 April 2016 (EDT)

Increase exposure over Smashpedia (supersmashbros.wikia.com)?
I have a feeling this has been brought up before, but is there anything we can do to increase our exposure over Smashpedia (supersmashbros.wikia.com)? By a mere glance over both wikis it's obvious that the articles here on SmashWiki are of much higher quality and depth, yet Smashpedia is way over SmashWiki in terms of Google search rankings, enough so that I frequently see tournament commentators and SmashBoards users refer to that site instead of this one when they look up something. It's a little disheartening to see a "low-quality" site get used instead a higher quality one, not to mention that all the article improvements we make over here go to waste if fewer people ever see them. It's also clear in a few places that they've simply copied over whole articles or sections from us in an attempt to improve their quality. I'd ask to merge the two wikis, but from previous experience Wikia.com is highly reluctant to do so in general (as all wikis on their URL/name contribute to their advertising revenue). This is the next best thing I could think of. Zowayix (talk) 12:18, 26 June 2016 (EDT)

Smashwiki.txt twitter?
So there's this Twitter account that seems to post some vandal edits made to the wiki. Not sure if this is a problem or not. I'll give you guys the link if needed. Penro17:06, 18 September 2017 (EDT)

Tournament news
I remember this being discussed, but I can't find where, so I tought I'd share my opinion here.
I suggest the News on the main page should have a section for the tournaments separate from the actual news for the games.
I'm not a big contributor to this Wiki, so take this as a reader's feedback: I think these news are pretty crappy. I find myself having to go to the Template:News page and checking its history to see if there is some news.
I mean there's a section for NIWA news and one for SSB news, why not having three sections? I personally don't care at all about tournaments, and I think a lot of people don't either, but beside this, tournament info is objectivelly different than actual game news. They're info on people playing the games, instead of about the games themselves.
I know it may seem like a moot point now that there hasn't been any game news, but I'd much rather have it stuck at old news until a new game is announced, or something else happens, since even "there's no news" is valuable information. The last game news there has been is Miiverse closing down, and that stayed on the main page for 10 days, before being pushed away by more tournament news. When the next SSB game is released, that news piece will too be obscured immediately by more tournament news. It's ridicolous.
Just my two cents.--Kombatgod (talk) 16:34, 2 January 2018 (EST)
- Sorry for late reply. I think this discussion was had somewhere before, but I am not sure. I am not entirely opposed to this and I'm interested in hearing what other's think. Serpent King 18:21, 26 January 2018 (EST)
- Sorry, I'm against this. There's hardly any other kind of news these days, so having a second news section would be unnecessary. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 18:40, 26 January 2018 (EST)
- Aaaaand just as I thought. The news about A NEW FREAKING GAME being announced, just got swept away by more tournament results. I don't get it. Why dont you want to let people know about actual news and instead only care about tournament results? (which if you think about the meaning of the terms, technically are NOT news).--Kombatgod (talk) 13:12, 22 April 2018 (EDT)
- Why is there a problem with month-old news being overtaken by day-old news? Toomai Glittershine The Chilled 13:48, 22 April 2018 (EDT)
- In what way are tournament results not news. Also now that I've seen what this looks like and have taken a few minutes to think about how this whole thing would run, I oppose on the grounds that we are essentially uprooting month old news and putting it at the top of the list. Smash news can be very quiet, and what we will have is a news section that will sit with the same 4 items for months at a time. Serpent King 13:58, 22 April 2018 (EDT)

Add the Newly Released Rankings to News
Once OrionRank 2017 and PMRank 2017 end, I think it'd be a good idea to link to all of them in the news section. It would include 64 League Rankings, 2017 SSBMRank, 2016-2017 SSBBRank, PMRank 2017, Panda Global Rankings v4, and OrionRank 2017. -Pokebub (talk) 02:36, 27 January 2018 (EST)

How often does the featured article get changed? It seems to have been stuck on Pocket for months, and maybe could be swapped out on the first of every month or something? Data (talk) 20:34, 2 July 2018 (EDT)

About the to do list
On the To Do list there is pre-release images, why is that on the to do list? George Jones 21:19, 16 July 2018 (EDT)
- Because they're tagged under the Category:Pre-release images, meaning that in the future (precisely in the game's release) they should be checked to see if whatever they each depict hasn't been changed considerably since the final release.
- If yes, add it to the appropriate categories, and make sure that it's stated to be a beta image; if not, simply remove the pre-release template. Hence, it's on the to-do list. — Nokiiε (T·C·L) 23:04, 16 July 2018 (EDT)
Ultimate counter broken
The countdown to Ultimate thing is broken. It has said 115 for a few days now, and having memorized the days (112 days, as of right now) I know it's wrong. I thought maybe it had to be changed manually so I checked, but that isn't how it works. Is it broken? Or does someone who knows how it works (The person who made it maybe) know what's wrong? 72.133.91.93 10:55, 17 August 2018 (EDT)Blueflame105

Featured article hyperlink
I wonder if the title of the featured article "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" could be edited to become a hyperlink to the page itself. As it stands, the only way to go from the featured article widget to the actual article is to locate the (...more) button at the end of the excerpt, which doesn't seem very ideal. Interwiki links
Many of the interwiki links are using http and should be updated to https. I'm not sure if all of them are applicable, but a few of the main ones (Bulbapedia, Inkipedia, ZeldaWiki) should be updated at least. Dr. HyperCake (talk) 00:37, 26 August 2018 (EDT)
Luigi's Mansion 3DS port link
The interwiki link to the MarioWiki page for the Luigi's Mansion 3DS port doesn't lead to an actual MarioWiki page. I'm guessing it should probably lead to Luigi's Mansion#Nintendo 3DS Port (the 3DS port's section on their main Luigi's Mansion page) or just Luigi's Mansion (the page itself).
